¹³ And ye shall know that I am Jehovah, when their slain men shall be among their idols round about their altars, upon every high hill, on all the tops of the mountains, and under every green tree, and under every thick oak, the places where they offered sweet savor to all their idols.

²³ For they also built them high places, and pillars, and Asherim, on every high hill, and under every green tree;

⁴ And he sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree.

²⁹ For they shall be ashamed of the oaks which ye have desired, and ye shall be confounded for the gardens that ye have chosen.

²⁰ Now therefore, O Jehovah our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art Jehovah, even thou only.

³⁶ And the angel of Jehovah went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand; and when men arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies. ³⁷ So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh. ³⁸ And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat. ⁵ ye that inflame yourselves among the oaks, under every green tree; that slay the children in the valleys, under the clefts of the rocks? ⁶ Among the smooth [stones] of the valley is thy portion; they, they are thy lot; even to them hast thou poured a drink-offering, thou hast offered an oblation. Shall I be appeased for these things? ⁷ Upon a high and lofty mountain hast thou set thy bed; thither also wentest thou up to offer sacrifice.

³ a people that provoke me to my face continually, sacrificing in gardens, and burning incense upon bricks; ⁴ that sit among the graves, and lodge in the secret places; that eat swine's flesh, and broth of abominable things is in their vessels;

¹⁷ They that sanctify themselves and purify themselves [to go] unto the gardens, behind one in the midst, eating swine's flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse, they shall come to an end together, saith Jehovah.

²⁰ For of old time I have broken thy yoke, and burst thy bonds; and thou saidst, I will not serve; for upon every high hill and under every green tree thou didst bow thyself, playing the harlot.

⁶ Moreover Jehovah said unto me in the days of Josiah the king, Hast thou seen that which backsliding Israel hath done? she is gone up upon every high mountain and under every green tree, and there hath played the harlot.

⁴ And your altars shall become desolate, and your sun-images shall be broken; and I will cast down your slain men before your idols. ⁵ And I will lay the dead bodies of the children of Israel before their idols; and I will scatter your bones round about your altars. ⁶ In all your dwelling-places the cities shall be laid waste, and the high places shall be desolate; that your altars may be laid waste and made desolate, and your idols may be broken and cease, and your sun-images may be hewn down, and your works may be abolished. ⁷ And the slain shall fall in the midst of you, and ye shall know that I am Jehovah.

²⁸ For when I had brought them into the land, which I sware to give unto them, then they saw every high hill, and every thick tree, and they offered there their sacrifices, and there they presented the provocation of their offering; there also they made their sweet savor, and they poured out there their drink-offerings.

¹³ They sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burn incense upon the hills, under oaks and poplars and terebinths, because the shadow thereof is good: therefore your daughters play the harlot, and your brides commit adultery.
