²¹ and he was driven from the sons of men, and his heart was made like the beasts', and his dwelling was with the wild asses; he was fed with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; until he knew that the Most High God ruleth in the kingdom of men, and that he setteth up over it whomsoever he will.

¹⁴ For I will this time send all my plagues upon thy heart, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people; that thou mayest know that there is none like me in all the earth. ¹⁵ For now I had put forth my hand, and smitten thee and thy people with pestilence, and thou hadst been cut off from the earth: ¹⁶ but in very deed for this cause have I made thee to stand, to show thee my power, and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth.

³ They are gaunt with want and famine;
They gnaw the dry ground, in the gloom of wasteness and desolation. ⁴ They pluck salt-wort by the bushes;
And the roots of the broom are their food. ⁵ They are driven forth from the midst [of men];
They cry after them as after a thief; ⁶ So that they dwell in frightful valleys,
In holes of the earth and of the rocks. ⁷ Among the bushes they bray;
Under the nettles they are gathered together.

¹⁷ Let them be put to shame and dismayed for ever;
Yea, let them be confounded and perish; ¹⁸ That they may know that thou alone, whose name is Jehovah,
Art the Most High over all the earth.

²⁴ And all the trees of the field shall know that I, Jehovah, have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish; I, Jehovah, have spoken and have done it.

¹⁷ The sentence is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones; to the intent that the living may know that the Most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the lowest of men.
