⁶ And he built fortified cities in Judah; for the land was quiet, and he had no war in those years, because Jehovah had given him rest.

⁴ But now Jehovah my God hath given me rest on every side; there is neither adversary, nor evil occurrence.

⁹ Behold, a son shall be born to thee, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies round about; for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness unto Israel in his days.

⁵ And Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defence in Judah. ⁶ He built Beth-lehem, and Etam, and Tekoa, ⁷ And Beth-zur, and Soco, and Adullam, ⁸ and Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph, ⁹ and Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah, ¹⁰ and Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin, fortified cities. ¹¹ And he fortified the strongholds, and put captains in them, and stores of victuals, and oil and wine. ¹² And in every city [he put] shields and spears, and made them exceeding strong. And Judah and Benjamin belonged to him.

¹⁵ And all Judah rejoiced at the oath; for they had sworn with all their heart, and sought him with their whole desire; and he was found of them: and Jehovah gave them rest round about.

²⁹ When he giveth quietness, who then can condemn?
And when he hideth his face, who then can behold him?
Alike whether [it be done] unto a nation, or unto a man:

⁹ He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth;
He breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder;
He burneth the chariots in the fire.
