¹⁰ And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.

⁵ Trust you not in a friend, put you not confidence in a guide: keep the doors of your mouth from her that lies in your bosom. ⁶ For the son dishonors the father, the daughter rises up against her mother, the daughter in law against her mother in law; a man's enemies are the men of his own house.

²¹ And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death.

³⁵ For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. ³⁶ And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

⁶ And blessed is he, whoever shall not be offended in me.

²¹ Yet has he not root in himself, but endures for a while: for when tribulation or persecution rises because of the word, by and by he is offended.

³¹ Then said Jesus to them, All you shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad. ³² But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee. ³³ Peter answered and said to him, Though all men shall be offended because of you, yet will I never be offended. ³⁴ Jesus said to him, Truly I say to you, That this night, before the cock crow, you shall deny me thrice.

¹⁷ And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution rises for the word's sake, immediately they are offended.

¹⁰ For Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed to Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia.
