¹ And he spoke a parable to them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

⁹ And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, the LORD which said to me, Return to your country, and to your kindred, and I will deal well with you: ¹⁰ I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which you have showed to your servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I am become two bands. ¹¹ Deliver me, I pray you, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau: for I fear him, lest he will come and smite me, and the mother with the children. ¹² And you said, I will surely do you good, and make your seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.

²⁴ And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. ²⁵ And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. ²⁶ And he said, Let me go, for the day breaks. And he said, I will not let you go, except you bless me.

⁸ For what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he has gained, when God takes away his soul? ⁹ Will God hear his cry when trouble comes on him? ¹⁰ Will he delight himself in the Almighty? will he always call on God?

¹³ I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.

¹⁶ As for me, I will call on God; and the LORD shall save me. ¹⁷ Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice.

² O you that hear prayer, to you shall all flesh come.

³ Be merciful to me, O Lord: for I cry to you daily.

¹⁷ He will regard the prayer of the destitute, and not despise their prayer.

⁵ I cried to you, O LORD: I said, You are my refuge and my portion in the land of the living. ⁶ Attend to my cry; for I am brought very low: deliver me from my persecutors; for they are stronger than I. ⁷ Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise your name: the righteous shall compass me about; for you shall deal bountifully with me.

¹² Then shall you call on me, and you shall go and pray to me, and I will listen to you.

⁷ When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in to you, into your holy temple.

⁵ And he said to them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go to him at midnight, and say to him, Friend, lend me three loaves; ⁶ For a friend of my in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him? ⁷ And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give you. ⁸ I say to you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needs. ⁹ And I say to you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you.

³⁶ Watch you therefore, and pray always, that you may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

¹² Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;

¹ Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;

⁹ And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

¹⁸ Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

⁶ Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

² Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;

¹² Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, salutes you, always laboring fervently for you in prayers, that you may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.

¹⁷ Pray without ceasing.

³ For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest you be wearied and faint in your minds. ⁴ You have not yet resisted to blood, striving against sin. ⁵ And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to children, My son, despise not you the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are rebuked of him:
