¹ Can you draw out leviathan with an hook? or his tongue with a cord which you let down? ² Can you put an hook into his nose? or bore his jaw through with a thorn? ³ Will he make many supplications to you? will he speak soft words to you? ⁴ Will he make a covenant with you? will you take him for a servant for ever? ⁵ Will you play with him as with a bird? or will you bind him for your maidens? ⁶ Shall the companions make a banquet of him? shall they part him among the merchants? ⁷ Can you fill his skin with barbed irons? or his head with fish spears? ⁸ Lay your hand on him, remember the battle, do no more. ⁹ Behold, the hope of him is in vain: shall not one be cast down even at the sight of him? ¹⁰ None is so fierce that dare stir him up: who then is able to stand before me? ¹¹ Who has prevented me, that I should repay him? whatever is under the whole heaven is mine. ¹² I will not conceal his parts, nor his power, nor his comely proportion. ¹³ Who can discover the face of his garment? or who can come to him with his double bridle? ¹⁴ Who can open the doors of his face? his teeth are terrible round about. ¹⁵ His scales are his pride, shut up together as with a close seal. ¹⁶ One is so near to another, that no air can come between them. ¹⁷ They are joined one to another, they stick together, that they cannot be sundered. ¹⁸ By his neesings a light does shine, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning. ¹⁹ Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out. ²⁰ Out of his nostrils goes smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron. ²¹ His breath kindles coals, and a flame goes out of his mouth. ²² In his neck remains strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him. ²³ The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are firm in themselves; they cannot be moved. ²⁴ His heart is as firm as a stone; yes, as hard as a piece of the nether millstone. ²⁵ When he raises up himself, the mighty are afraid: by reason of breakings they purify themselves. ²⁶ The sword of him that lays at him cannot hold: the spear, the dart, nor the habergeon. ²⁷ He esteems iron as straw, and brass as rotten wood. ²⁸ The arrow cannot make him flee: sling stones are turned with him into stubble. ²⁹ Darts are counted as stubble: he laughs at the shaking of a spear. ³⁰ Sharp stones are under him: he spreads sharp pointed things on the mire. ³¹ He makes the deep to boil like a pot: he makes the sea like a pot of ointment. ³² He makes a path to shine after him; one would think the deep to be hoary. ³³ On earth there is not his like, who is made without fear. ³⁴ He beholds all high things: he is a king over all the children of pride.

² And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved on the face of the waters.

¹⁵ And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light on the earth: and it was so.

²⁵ And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creeps on the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

²⁸ And God blessed them, and God said to them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.

¹⁵ And you shall go to your fathers in peace; you shall be buried in a good old age.

⁸ Then Abraham gave up the ghost, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years; and was gathered to his people.

³⁸ And he said, My son shall not go down with you; for his brother is dead, and he is left alone: if mischief befall him by the way in the which you go, then shall you bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to the grave.

⁹ Judah is a lion's whelp: from the prey, my son, you are gone up: he stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up?

² And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.

⁵ Now therefore, if you will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then you shall be a peculiar treasure to me above all people: for all the earth is mine:

⁶ Then his master shall bring him to the judges; he shall also bring him to the door, or to the door post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an awl; and he shall serve him for ever.

⁹ He couched, he lay down as a lion, and as a great lion: who shall stir him up? Blessed is he that blesses you, and cursed is he that curses you.

¹⁴ Behold, the heaven and the heaven of heavens is the LORD's your God, the earth also, with all that therein is.

¹⁷ Then you shall take an awl, and thrust it through his ear to the door, and he shall be your servant for ever. And also to your maidservant you shall do likewise.

³⁴ So that you shall be mad for the sight of your eyes which you shall see.

¹¹ And it came to pass, when they saw him, that they brought thirty companions to be with him.

²⁵ And it came to pass, when their hearts were merry, that they said, Call for Samson, that he may make us sport. And they called for Samson out of the prison house; and he made them sport: and they set him between the pillars. ²⁶ And Samson said to the lad that held him by the hand, Suffer me that I may feel the pillars whereupon the house stands, that I may lean on them. ²⁷ Now the house was full of men and women; and all the lords of the Philistines were there; and there were on the roof about three thousand men and women, that beheld while Samson made sport. ²⁸ And Samson called to the LORD, and said, O Lord God, remember me, I pray you, and strengthen me, I pray you, only this once, O God, that I may be at once avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes. ²⁹ And Samson took hold of the two middle pillars on which the house stood, and on which it was borne up, of the one with his right hand, and of the other with his left. ³⁰ And Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell on the lords, and on all the people that were therein. So the dead which he slew at his death were more than they which he slew in his life.

¹¹ And the LORD said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that hears it shall tingle.

¹¹ And the king of Israel answered and said, Tell him, Let not him that girds on his harness boast himself as he that puts it off.

³¹ And his servants said to him, Behold now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings: let us, I pray you, put sackcloth on our loins, and ropes on our heads, and go out to the king of Israel: peradventure he will save your life. ³² So they girded sackcloth on their loins, and put ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, Your servant Benhadad said, I pray you, let me live. And he said, Is he yet alive? he is my brother. ³³ Now the men did diligently observe whether any thing would come from him, and did hastily catch it: and they said, Your brother Benhadad. Then he said, Go you, bring him. Then Benhadad came forth to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot. ³⁴ And Ben-hadad said to him, The cities, which my father took from your father, I will restore; and you shall make streets for you in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria. Then said Ahab, I will send you away with this covenant. So he made a covenant with him, and sent him away.

⁴ But they were exceedingly afraid, and said, Behold, two kings stood not before him: how then shall we stand?

²⁸ Because your rage against me and your tumult is come up into my ears, therefore I will put my hook in your nose, and my bridle in your lips, and I will turn you back by the way by which you came.

¹¹ Yours, O LORD is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is yours; your is the kingdom, O LORD, and you are exalted as head above all. ¹² Both riches and honor come of you, and you reign over all; and in your hand is power and might; and in your hand it is to make great, and to give strength to all. ¹³ Now therefore, our God, we thank you, and praise your glorious name. ¹⁴ But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of you, and of your own have we given you.

¹⁴ And Uzziah prepared for them throughout all the host shields, and spears, and helmets, and habergeons, and bows, and slings to cast stones.

⁸ Let them curse it that curse the day, who are ready to raise up their mourning. ⁹ Let the stars of the twilight thereof be dark; let it look for light, but have none; neither let it see the dawning of the day:

⁴ He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who has hardened himself against him, and has prospered?

² Can a man be profitable to God, as he that is wise may be profitable to himself? ³ Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that you are righteous? or is it gain to him, that you make your ways perfect?

¹² He divides the sea with his power, and by his understanding he smites through the proud.

⁸ The lion's whelps have not trodden it, nor the fierce lion passed by it.

¹¹ He binds the floods from overflowing; and the thing that is hid brings he forth to light.

¹⁴ The depth said, It is not in me: and the sea said, It is not with me.

⁷ If you be righteous, what give you him? or what receives he of your hand?

¹⁰ And broke up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors,

¹⁶ Have you entered into the springs of the sea? or have you walked in the search of the depth?

³⁰ The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.

⁷ He scorns the multitude of the city, neither regards he the crying of the driver.

¹⁹ Have you given the horse strength? have you clothed his neck with thunder?

²¹ He paws in the valley, and rejoices in his strength: he goes on to meet the armed men. ²² He mocks at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turns he back from the sword. ²³ The quiver rattles against him, the glittering spear and the shield. ²⁴ He swallows the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believes he that it is the sound of the trumpet.

⁹ Have you an arm like God? or can you thunder with a voice like him?

¹⁶ See now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly.

¹⁹ He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach to him.

¹¹ Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. ¹² Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

⁵ For you have made him a little lower than the angels, and have crowned him with glory and honor. ⁶ You made him to have dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet:

⁸ There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it.

¹² At the brightness that was before him his thick clouds passed, hail stones and coals of fire.

³ For you prevent him with the blessings of goodness: you set a crown of pure gold on his head.

¹ The earth is the LORD's, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.

⁹ Be you not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near to you.

¹² If I were hungry, I would not tell you: for the world is mine, and the fullness thereof.

²¹ The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart: his words were softer than oil, yet were they drawn swords.

⁴ My soul is among lions: and I lie even among them that are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

⁶ Break their teeth, O God, in their mouth: break out the great teeth of the young lions, O LORD.

⁶ Therefore pride compasses them about as a chain; violence covers them as a garment.

¹⁰ Therefore his people return here: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.

¹⁴ You brake the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gave him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness.

²⁶ There go the ships: there is that leviathan, whom you have made to play therein.

²⁸ Then they cry to the LORD in their trouble, and he brings them out of their distresses.

¹⁶ The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD's: but the earth has he given to the children of men.

¹ A soft answer turns away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

³¹ The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.

²³ The poor uses entreaties; but the rich answers roughly.

²⁹ The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is the grey head.

¹⁵ By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaks the bone.

¹⁴ There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.

⁴ And the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of music shall be brought low;

¹ In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea.

¹ Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, whose glorious beauty is a fading flower, which are on the head of the fat valleys of them that are overcome with wine!

¹⁹ From the time that it goes forth it shall take you: for morning by morning shall it pass over, by day and by night: and it shall be a vexation only to understand the report.

¹⁰ Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not to us right things, speak to us smooth things, prophesy deceits:

³³ For Tophet is ordained of old; yes, for the king it is prepared; he has made it deep and large: the pile thereof is fire and much wood; the breath of the LORD, like a stream of brimstone, does kindle it.

²⁹ Because your rage against me, and your tumult, is come up into my ears, therefore will I put my hook in your nose, and my bridle in your lips, and I will turn you back by the way by which you came.

¹⁵ Behold, I will make you a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth: you shall thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and shall make the hills as chaff.

⁴ Because I knew that you are obstinate, and your neck is an iron sinew, and your brow brass;

¹³ And the word of the LORD came to me the second time, saying, What see you? And I said, I see a seething pot; and the face thereof is toward the north. ¹⁴ Then the LORD said to me, Out of the north an evil shall break forth on all the inhabitants of the land.

³ O LORD, are not your eyes on the truth? you have stricken them, but they have not grieved; you have consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.

²³ Thus said the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:

⁵ If you have run with the footmen, and they have wearied you, then how can you contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein you trusted, they wearied you, then how will you do in the swelling of Jordan?

¹⁷ Then he said to me, Have you seen this, O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? for they have filled the land with violence, and have returned to provoke me to anger: and, see, they put the branch to their nose. ¹⁸ Therefore will I also deal in fury: my eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: and though they cry in my ears with a loud voice, yet will I not hear them.

³ Speak, and say, Thus said the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great dragon that lies in the middle of his rivers, which has said, My river is my own, and I have made it for myself. ⁴ But I will put hooks in your jaws, and I will cause the fish of your rivers to stick to your scales, and I will bring you up out of the middle of your rivers, and all the fish of your rivers shall stick to your scales. ⁵ And I will leave you thrown into the wilderness, you and all the fish of your rivers: you shall fall on the open fields; you shall not be brought together, nor gathered: I have given you for meat to the beasts of the field and to the fowls of the heaven.

⁷ After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and broke in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns.

¹⁴ I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be your plagues; O grave, I will be your destruction: repentance shall be hid from my eyes.

⁴ But the LORD sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken. ⁵ Then the mariners were afraid, and cried every man to his god, and cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it of them. But Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship; and he lay, and was fast asleep. ⁶ So the shipmaster came to him, and said to him, What mean you, O sleeper? arise, call on your God, if so be that God will think on us, that we perish not.

¹⁰ And they shall scoff at the kings, and the princes shall be a scorn to them: they shall deride every strong hold; for they shall heap dust, and take it.

⁵ Before him went the pestilence, and burning coals went forth at his feet.

¹² Yes, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts has sent in his spirit by the former prophets: therefore came a great wrath from the LORD of hosts.

³¹ Or what king, going to make war against another king, sits not down first, and consults whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that comes against him with twenty thousand? ³² Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends an ambassador, and desires conditions of peace.

¹¹ And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.

³⁵ Or who has first given to him, and it shall be recompensed to him again?

²² Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?

²⁶ For the earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof.

²⁸ But if any man say to you, This is offered in sacrifice to idols, eat not for his sake that showed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof:

⁵⁵ O death, where is your sting? O grave, where is your victory? ⁵⁶ The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. ⁵⁷ But thanks be to God, which gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

³ Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.

¹⁴ His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;

² And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof? ³ And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon.

⁵ And one of the elders said to me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.

¹ And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars: ² And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered. ³ And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns on his heads.

² And the beast which I saw was like to a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.

² And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, ³ And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.
