¹⁶ Thus said the LORD, Stand you in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and you shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

⁷ Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations: ask your father, and he will show you; your elders, and they will tell you.

⁷ Tell me, O you whom my soul loves, where you feed, where you make your flock to rest at noon: for why should I be as one that turns aside by the flocks of your companions? ⁸ If you know not, O you fairest among women, go your way forth by the footsteps of the flock, and feed your kids beside the shepherds' tents.

⁵ O house of Jacob, come you, and let us walk in the light of the LORD.

²⁰ To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

¹² To whom he said, This is the rest with which you may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.

²¹ And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, This is the way, walk you in it, when you turn to the right hand, and when you turn to the left.

²⁵ Withhold your foot from being unshod, and your throat from thirst: but you said, There is no hope: no; for I have loved strangers, and after them will I go.

²³ But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people: and walk you in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well to you.

¹² And they said, There is no hope: but we will walk after our own devices, and we will every one do the imagination of his evil heart.

¹⁵ Because my people has forgotten me, they have burned incense to vanity, and they have caused them to stumble in their ways from the ancient paths, to walk in paths, in a way not cast up;

²¹ I spoke to you in your prosperity; but you said, I will not hear. This has been your manner from your youth, that you obeyed not my voice.

¹⁶ As for the word that you have spoken to us in the name of the LORD, we will not listen to you.

⁴ Remember you the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded to him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments.

²⁸ Come to me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. ²⁹ Take my yoke on you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest to your souls.

²⁸ But what think you? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard. ²⁹ He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went. ³⁰ And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not. ³¹ Whether of them two did the will of his father? They say to him, The first. Jesus said to them, Truly I say to you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. ³² For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and you, when you had seen it, repented not afterward, that you might believe him.

²⁹ Abraham said to him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.

³⁹ Search the scriptures; for in them you think you have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

⁴⁶ For had you believed Moses, you would have believed me; for he wrote of me. ⁴⁷ But if you believe not his writings, how shall you believe my words?

³⁵ Then Jesus said to them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness come on you: for he that walks in darkness knows not where he goes.

¹⁷ If you know these things, happy are you if you do them.

¹¹ These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

¹ What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, has found? ² For if Abraham were justified by works, he has whereof to glory; but not before God. ³ For what said the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him for righteousness. ⁴ Now to him that works is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. ⁵ But to him that works not, but believes on him that justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. ⁶ Even as David also describes the blessedness of the man, to whom God imputes righteousness without works,

¹² And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.

⁶ As you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk you in him:

¹² That you be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

² For by it the elders obtained a good report.
