¹⁹ Why, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

² And Ezra the priest brought the law before the congregation both of men and women, and all that could hear with understanding, on the first day of the seventh month. ³ And he read therein before the street that was before the water gate from the morning until midday, before the men and the women, and those that could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive to the book of the law.

¹² And all the people went their way to eat, and to drink, and to send portions, and to make great mirth, because they had understood the words that were declared to them. ¹³ And on the second day were gathered together the chief of the fathers of all the people, the priests, and the Levites, to Ezra the scribe, even to understand the words of the law. ¹⁴ And they found written in the law which the LORD had commanded by Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in booths in the feast of the seventh month:

¹⁸ Also day by day, from the first day to the last day, he read in the book of the law of God. And they kept the feast seven days; and on the eighth day was a solemn assembly, according to the manner.

³ And they stood up in their place, and read in the book of the law of the LORD their God one fourth part of the day; and another fourth part they confessed, and worshipped the LORD their God.

¹⁷ And refused to obey, neither were mindful of your wonders that you did among them; but hardened their necks, and in their rebellion appointed a captain to return to their bondage: but you are a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and forsook them not.

³² Now therefore listen to me, O you children: for blessed are they that keep my ways. ³³ Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not. ³⁴ Blessed is the man that hears me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. ³⁵ For whoever finds me finds life, and shall obtain favor of the LORD.

¹⁹ In the multitude of words there wants not sin: but he that refrains his lips is wise.

³ He that keeps his mouth keeps his life: but he that opens wide his lips shall have destruction.

¹⁷ He that is soon angry deals foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.

²⁹ He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalts folly.

² The tongue of the wise uses knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools pours out foolishness.

¹⁸ A wrathful man stirs up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeases strife.

³² He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that rules his spirit than he that takes a city.

¹⁴ The beginning of strife is as when one lets out water: therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with.

²⁷ He that has knowledge spares his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.

¹³ He that answers a matter before he hears it, it is folly and shame to him.

²¹ Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

¹¹ The discretion of a man defers his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.

¹⁹ A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if you deliver him, yet you must do it again.

²³ Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from troubles.

²⁸ He that has no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

¹ Keep your foot when you go to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil. ² Be not rash with your mouth, and let not your heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and you on earth: therefore let your words be few. ³ For a dream comes through the multitude of business; and a fool's voice is known by multitude of words.

⁸ Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit. ⁹ Be not hasty in your spirit to be angry: for anger rests in the bosom of fools.

²² But I say to you, That whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whoever shall say, You fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

² And straightway many were gathered together, so that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word to them.

³⁷ David therefore himself calls him Lord; and from where is he then his son? And the common people heard him gladly.

¹ Then drew near to him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him.

⁴⁸ And could not find what they might do: for all the people were very attentive to hear him.

⁴² And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

³³ Immediately therefore I sent to you; and you have well done that you are come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded you of God.

⁴² And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles sought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath. ⁴³ Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God. ⁴⁴ And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.

⁴⁸ And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.

¹¹ These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

²⁰ Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, jealousies, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, ²¹ Contentions, murders, drunkenness, revelings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

²⁶ Be you angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down on your wrath:

³¹ Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:

⁸ But now you also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

¹⁵ And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also you are called in one body; and be you thankful.

¹³ For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when you received the word of God which you heard of us, you received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually works also in you that believe.

²⁶ If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridles not his tongue, but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is vain.

¹ My brothers, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation. ² For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

²¹ I have not written to you because you know not the truth, but because you know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
