¹² To whom he said, This is the rest with which you may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.

¹¹ And Asa cried to the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with you to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on you, and in your name we go against this multitude. O LORD, you are our God; let no man prevail against you.

⁸ Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubims a huge host, with very many chariots and horsemen? yet, because you did rely on the LORD, he delivered them into your hand. ⁹ For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein you have done foolishly: therefore from now on you shall have wars.

¹¹ But my people would not listen to my voice; and Israel would none of me. ¹² So I gave them up to their own hearts' lust: and they walked in their own counsels. ¹³ Oh that my people had listened to me, and Israel had walked in my ways!

¹⁰ And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.

¹⁵ For thus said the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall you be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and you would not.

¹⁶ Thus said the LORD, Stand you in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and you shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

¹⁶ As for the word that you have spoken to us in the name of the LORD, we will not listen to you.

¹¹ But they refused to listen, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear.

¹⁴ But I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations whom they knew not. Thus the land was desolate after them, that no man passed through nor returned: for they laid the pleasant land desolate.

²⁸ Come to me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. ²⁹ Take my yoke on you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest to your souls.

²⁵ See that you refuse not him that speaks. For if they escaped not who refused him that spoke on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaks from heaven:
