¹³ For thus shall it be in the midst of the earth among the peoples, as the shaking of an olive tree, as the gleanings when the vintage is done.

⁹ Unless LORD of hosts had left to us a seed, we should have been as Sodom, we should have been like Gomorrah.

¹³ And if there be yet a tenth in it, it also shall in turn be eaten up. As a terebinth, and as an oak, whose stock remains when they are felled, so the holy seed is the stock of it.

²⁰ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and those who are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no more again lean upon him who smote them, but shall lean upon LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth. ²¹ A remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God. ²² For though thy people, Israel, be as the sand of the sea, a remnant of them shall return. A destruction is determined, overflowing with righteousness.

⁵ And it shall be as when the harvestman gathers the standing grain, and his arm reaps the ears. Yea, it shall be as when he gleans ears in the valley of Rephaim. ⁶ Yet there shall be gleanings left in it, as the shaking of an olive tree-two or three berries in the top of the uppermost bough, four or five in the outmost branches of a fruitful tree, says LORD, the God of Israel.

²⁸ And those who escape the sword shall return out of the land of Egypt into the land of Judah, few in number. And all the remnant of Judah, who have gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall know whose word shall stand, mine, or theirs.

⁸ Yet I will leave a remnant, in that ye shall have some who escape the sword among the nations, when ye shall be scattered through the countries. ⁹ And those of you who escape shall remember me among the nations where they shall be carried captive, how I have broken with their lewd heart, which has departed from me, and with their eyes, which play the harlot after their idols. And they shall loathe themselves in their own sight for the evils which they have committed in all their abominations. ¹⁰ And they shall know that I am LORD. I have not said in vain that I would do this evil to them. ¹¹ Thus says the lord LORD: Smite with thy hand, and stamp with thy foot, and say, Alas! because of all the evil abominations of the house of Israel, for they shall fall by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence.

¹⁶ But those of them who escape shall escape, and shall be on the mountains like doves of the valleys. All of them moaning, each one in his iniquity.

⁴ And LORD said to him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men who sigh and who cry over all the abominations that are done in the midst of it. ⁵ And to the others he said in my hearing, Go ye through the city after him, and smite. Let not your eye spare, nor have ye pity. ⁶ Kill utterly the old man, the young man, and the virgin, and little sons, and women, but come not near any man upon whom is the mark. And begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the old men who were before the house.

¹⁶ Therefore say, Thus says the lord LORD: Whereas I have removed them far off among the nations, and whereas I have scattered them among the countries, yet I will be to them a sanctuary for a little while in the countries where they have come. ¹⁷ Therefore say, Thus says the lord LORD. I will gather you from the peoples, and assemble you out of the countries where ye have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel. ¹⁸ And they shall come there, and they shall take away from there all the detestable things of it and all the abominations of it. ¹⁹ And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. And I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them a heart of flesh, ²⁰ that they may walk in my statutes, and keep my ordinances, and do them. And they shall be my people, and I will be their God.

²² Yet, behold, there shall be left a remnant in it that shall be carried forth, both sons and daughters. Behold, they shall come forth to you, and ye shall see their way and their doings. And ye shall be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, even concerning all that I have brought upon it. ²³ And they shall comfort you when ye see their way and their doings. And ye shall know that I have not done all that I have done in it without cause, says the lord LORD.

¹² I will surely assemble, O Jacob, all of thee. I will surely gather the remnant of Israel. I will put them together as the sheep of Bozrah, as a flock in the midst of their pasture. They shall make great noise because of the multitude of men.

²² And if those days were not shortened, no flesh would be saved. But because of the chosen those days will be shortened.

² God did not thrust away his people whom he foreknew. Or know ye not what the scripture tells by Elijah? How he encounters God about Israel. ³ Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and they have torn down thine altars, and I am left alone, and they seek my life. ⁴ But what does the divine response say to him? I have reserved for myself seven thousand men who have not bowed a knee to Baal. ⁵ So then also at this present time there has become a remnant according to the selection of grace. ⁶ And if it is by grace, it is no longer from works, otherwise grace becomes no longer grace. But if it is from works it is no longer grace, otherwise work is no longer work.

⁴ But thou have a few names in Sardis who did not defile their garments. And they will walk with me in white, because they are worthy.

² And leave out the court outside the temple, and do not measure it, because it has been given to the nations. And they will trample the holy city forty-two months. ³ And I will give to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy a thousand two hundred and sixty days clothed in sackcloth.
