⁴ her former husband, who sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife after she is defiled. For that is abomination before LORD, and thou shall not cause the land to sin, which LORD thy God gives thee for an inheritance.

²⁴ Do not defile ye yourselves in any of these things. For in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out from before you, ²⁵ and the land is defiled. Therefore I visit the iniquity of it upon it, and the land vomits out its inhabitants. ²⁶ Ye therefore shall keep my statutes and my ordinances, and shall not do any of these abominations, neither the home-born, nor the stranger that sojourns among you, ²⁷ (for all these abominations the men of the land have done, who were before you, and the land is defiled), ²⁸ that the land not vomit you out also, when ye defile it, as it vomited out the nation that was before you.

¹⁷ Is the iniquity of Peor too little for us, from which we have not cleansed ourselves to this day, although there came a plague upon the congregation of LORD, ¹⁸ that ye must turn away this day from following LORD? And it will be, seeing ye rebel today against LORD, that tomorrow he will be angry with the whole congregation of Israel.
