¹¹ Behold, the days come, says the lord LORD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of LORD.

¹ And the child Samuel served LORD before Eli. And the word of LORD was precious in those days; there was no frequent vision.

⁶ And when Saul inquired of LORD, LORD answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.

¹⁵ And Samuel said to Saul, Why have thou disquieted me, to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am greatly distressed, for the Philistines make war against me, and God is departed from me, and answers me no more, neither by prophets, nor by dreams. Therefore I have called thee, that thou may make known to me what I shall do.

³ Now for a long time Israel was without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law.

⁹ We do not see our signs. There is no more any prophet, nor is there among us he who knows how long.

⁶ And I will lay it waste. It shall not be pruned nor hoed, but there shall come up briers and thorns. I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it.

²⁰ And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet thy teachers shall not be hidden anymore, but thine eyes shall see thy teachers. ²¹ And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.

²⁶ Mischief shall come upon mischief, and rumor shall be upon rumor. And they shall seek a vision of the prophet, but the law shall perish from the priest, and counsel from the elders.

⁶ Therefore it shall be night to you, that ye shall have no vision. And it shall be dark to you, that ye shall not divine. And the sun shall go down upon the prophets, and the day shall be black over them.

³⁶ But when he saw the multitudes, he felt compassion for them, because they were troubled and dejected, as sheep having no shepherd.
