⁶ And the king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said to him, Why have thou not required of the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the tax of Moses the servant of LORD, and of the assembly of Israel, for the tent of the testimony?

¹² When thou take the sum of the sons of Israel, according to those who are numbered of them, then they shall give every man a ransom for his soul to LORD when thou number them, that there be no plague among them when thou number them. ¹³ This they shall give, everyone who passes over to those who are numbered: half a shekel after the shekel of the sanctuary, (the shekel is twenty gerahs,) half a shekel for an offering to LORD. ¹⁴ Everyone who passes over to those who are numbered, from twenty years old and upward, shall give the offering of LORD. ¹⁵ The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less, than the half shekel, when they give the offering of LORD, to make atonement for your souls. ¹⁶ And thou shall take the atonement money from the sons of Israel, and shall appoint it for the service of the tent of meeting, that it may be a memorial for the sons of Israel before LORD, to make atonement for your souls.

⁵⁰ but appoint thou the Levites over the tabernacle of the testimony, and over all the furniture of it, and over all that belongs to it. They shall bear the tabernacle, and all the furniture of it, and they shall minister to it, and shall encamp round about the tabernacle.

⁷ And Moses laid up the rods before LORD in the tent of the testimony. ⁸ And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses went into the tent of the testimony, and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and put forth buds, and produced blossoms, and bore ripe almonds.

² And thy brothers also, the tribe of Levi, the tribe of thy father, bring thou near with thee, that they may be joined to thee, and minister to thee, but thou and thy sons with thee shall be before the tent of the testimony.

³ And Joab said to the king, Now LORD thy God add to the people, however many they may be, a hundredfold, and may the eyes of my lord the king see it, but why does my lord the king delight in this thing?

⁴⁴ The tabernacle of the testimony was with our fathers in the wilderness, just as he arranged (he who spoke to Moses), to make it according to the pattern that he had seen.
