³⁵ Jesus therefore said to them: Yet a little while is the light among you. Walk while ye have the light, that darkness may not overtake you; and he that walks in the darkness knows not whither he goes.

⁵ And the light shines in the darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. ⁶ There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. ⁷ The same came for witness, to bear witness of the light, that through him all might believe. ⁸ He was not the light; but [came] to bear witness of the light. ⁹ There was the true light, which lights every man that comes into the world.

³³ Jesus therefore said: Yet a little while I am with you, and I go to him who sent me.

¹² Again therefore Jesus spoke to them, saying: I am the light of the world; he that follows me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life.

⁴ I must work the works of him who sent me, while it is day. Night is coming, when none can work. ⁵ As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

¹⁰ But if any one walk in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.

³⁶ While ye have the light, believe on the light, that ye may become sons of light. These things spoke Jesus, and departed, and hid himself from them.

³⁹ Therefore they could not believe, because Isaiah said again: ⁴⁰ He has blinded their eyes, And has hardened their heart; That they should not see with their eyes, And understand with their heart, And turn, and I should heal them.

⁴⁶ I have come a light into the world, that whoever believes on me may not abide in the darkness.

¹⁶ A little while, and ye behold me not; and again a little while, and ye shall see me.

⁷ What then? What Israel seeks after, that he obtained not; but the election obtained it, and the rest were hardened. ⁸ According as it is written: God gave them a spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear, unto this day. ⁹ And David says: Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, And a stumbling-block, and a recompense to them; ¹⁰ Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see, And bow down their back alway.

¹² The night is far advanced, the day is at hand. Let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. ¹³ Let us walk becomingly, as in the day; not in reveling and drunkenness, not in lewdness and wantonness, not in strife and envying; ¹⁴ but put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.

¹⁴ But their understandings were hardened; for until this day the same vail on the reading of the old covenant remains, not being taken away; which vail is done away in Christ.

⁸ For ye were once darkness, but now light in the Lord. Walk as children of light,—

¹⁴ Wherefore he says: Awake, thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ will give thee light. ¹⁵ See to it then, how ye walk with exactness, not as unwise, but as wise,

⁵ For all ye are sons of light, and sons of day; we are not of night, nor of darkness. ⁶ So then let us not sleep, as others; but let us watch and be sober. ⁷ For they that sleep, sleep in the night; and they that are drunken, are drunken in the night. ⁸ But let us, being of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet, the hope of salvation;

⁷ Wherefore, as the Holy Spirit says: To-day, if ye will hear his voice, ⁸ Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, In the day of the temptation in the wilderness;

⁶ If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in the darkness, we lie, and do not the truth; ⁷ but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin.

⁸ Again, a new commandment I write to you, which thing is true in him and in you; because the darkness is passing away, and the true light now shines. ⁹ He that says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in the darkness until now. ¹⁰ He that loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no occasion of stumbling in him. ¹¹ But he that hates his brother is in the darkness, and walks in the darkness, and knows not where he goes, because the darkness blinded his eyes.
