Wherefore, when I came, was there no man? when I called, was there none to answer? The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.

Thomson(i) 2 Why, when I came, was there no man? And why, when I called, did none answer? Is my hand unable to save? Or have I no power to rescue? Behold with my rebuke I can dry up the sea, and make the rivers a desert, so that the fishes thereof shall shrivel for want of water, and die for thirst. I can clothe the heaven with darkness, and make its covering like sackcloth. 4 The Lord Lord giveth me an instructed tongue, to know when it is proper to speak a word. He gave it me in the morning; he gave me in addition an ear to hear. 5 And the instruction of the Lord, Lord openeth mine ears and I am not rebellious, nor do I gainsay. 6 My back I have given to scourges, and my cheeks to be slapped with an open hand, and I turned not my face from the shame of spittles.

Is my hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem? or have I no power to deliver? behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness: their fish stink because there is no water and die for thirst. 3 I clothe the heavens with blackness, and I make sackcloth their covering. 4 ¶ The Lord GOD has given me the tongue of the wise that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary; he wakes up early, early shall he awaken my ear, that I might hear, as the wise. 5 The Lord GOD has opened my ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away back. 6 I gave my back to the smiters and my cheeks to those that plucked off the hair: I did not hide my face from shame and spitting.
CAB(i) 2 Why did I come, and there was no man? Why did I call, and there was none to hearken? Is not My hand strong to redeem? Or can I not deliver? Behold, by My rebuke I will dry up the sea, and make rivers a wilderness; and their fish shall be dried up because there is no water, and shall die of thirst. 3 I will clothe the sky with darkness, and will make its covering as sackcloth. 4 The Lord, even God, gives me the tongue of instruction, to know when it is fit to speak a word; He has appointed for me early, He has given me an ear to hear; 5 and the instruction of the Lord, even the Lord, opens my ears, and I do not disobey, nor dispute. 6 I gave my back to scourges, and my cheeks to blows; and I turned not away my face from the shame of spitting;
LXX2012(i) 2 Why did I come, and there was no man? [why] did I call, and there was none to listen? Is not my hand strong to redeem? or can I not deliver? behold, by my rebuke I will dry up the sea, and make rivers a wilderness; and their fish shall be dried up because there is no water, and shall die for thirst. 3 I will clothe the sky with darkness, and will make its covering as sackcloth. 4 The Lord [even] God gives me the tongue of instruction, to know when it is fit to speak a word: he has appointed for me early, he has given me an ear to hear: 5 and the instruction of the Lord, even the Lord, opens mine ears, and I do not disobey, nor dispute. 6 I gave my back to scourges, and my cheeks to blows; and I turned not away my face from the shame of spitting:
NSB(i) 2 »Why was no one here when I came? Why was no one here to answer when I called? Am I too weak to reclaim you? Do I not have the power to rescue you? I dry up the sea with my command, and I turn rivers into deserts. Their fish stink because there is no water, and people die of thirst. 3 »I clothe the heavens in darkness and cover them with sackcloth.« 4 The Lord Jehovah will teach me what to say, so I will know how to encourage tired people. Morning after morning he will wake me to listen like a student. 5 The Lord Jehovah has opened my ears. I will not rebel, nor will I turn away from him. 6 I will offer my back to those who whip me. I will offer my cheeks to those who pluck hairs out of my beard. I will not turn my face away from those who humiliate me and spit on me.
LEB(i) 2 Why was there no man when I came, no one who answered when I called? Do I lack the strength to save?* Or is there no power in me to deliver? Look! by my rebuke I dry up the sea; I make* the rivers a desert; their fish stink because there is no water, and they* die because of thirst. 3 I clothe the heavens with darkness, and I make* their covering sackcloth." 4 The Lord Yahweh has given me the tongue of a pupil, to know how to help the weary with a word. He awakens morning by morning,* awakens an ear for me to listen as do the pupils. 5 The Lord Yahweh has opened an ear for me, and I, I was not rebellious. I did not turn backwards; 6 I gave my back to those who struck me, and my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard;* I did not hide my face from insults and spittle.
MLV(i) 2 Why, when I came, was there no man? When I called, was there none to answer? Is my hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem? Or have I no power to deliver? Behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea. I make the rivers a wilderness. Their fish stink because there is no water and die for thirst. 3 I clothe the heavens with blackness and I make sackcloth their covering.
4 The lord Jehovah has given me the tongue of those who are taught, that I may know how to sustain with words he who is weary. He awakens morning by morning. He awakens my ear to hear as those who are taught. 5 The lord Jehovah has opened my ear and I was not rebellious, nor turned away backward. 6 I gave my back to the strikers and my cheeks to those who plucked off the hair. I did not hide my face from shame and spitting.
VIN(i) 2 Wherefore, When I came in, was there no one? When I called, was there none to answer? Is mine own hand, really shortened, that it cannot redeem? Or is there not, in me, strength to deliver? Lo! by my rebuke, I dry up the sea I make rivers a desert, Their fish Stinketh, for want of water, Yea dieth, for thirst: 3 I clothe the heavens with blackness, and I make sackcloth their covering." 4 The Sovereign LORD has given Me the tongue of the learned, to know to help the weary with a word. He wakens morning by morning, He wakens the ear to hear as the learned. 5 The Sovereign LORD has opened my ear. I was not rebellious. I have not turned back. 6 I gave my back to those who struck me, and my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard; I did not hide my face from insults and spittle.

6 Těla svého nastavuji bijícím, a líce svého rvoucím mne, tváři své neskrývám od pohanění a plvání.
