1 Timothy 4

Williams(i) 1 Now the Spirit distinctly declares that in later times some will turn away from the faith, because they continuously give their attention to deceiving spirits and the things that demons teach 2 through the pretensions of false teachers, men with seared consciences, 3 who forbid people to marry and teach them to abstain from certain sorts of food which God created for the grateful enjoyment of those who have faith and a clear knowledge of the truth. 4 For everything in God's creation is good, and nothing is to be refused, provided it is accepted with thanksgiving; 5 for in this way it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer. 6 If you continue to put these things before the brothers, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, ever feeding your own soul on the truths of the faith and of the fine teaching which you have followed. 7 But make it your habit to let worldly and old women's stories alone. Continue training yourself for the religious life. 8 Physical training, indeed, is of some service, but religion is of service for everything, for it contains a promise for the present life as well as the future. 9 This is a saying to be trusted and deserves to be accepted by all. 10 To this end we are toiling and struggling, because we have fixed our hope on the living God, who is the Saviour of all mankind, especially of believers. 11 Continue to give these orders and to teach these truths. 12 Let no one think little of you because you are young, but always set an example for believers, in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity. 13 Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of the Scriptures, and to preaching and teaching. 14 Stop neglecting the gift you received, which was given you through prophetic utterance when the elders laid their hands upon you. 15 Continue cultivating these things; be devoted to them, so that everybody will see your progress. 16 Make it your habit to pay close attention to yourself and your teaching. Persevere in these things, for if you do you will save both yourself and those who listen to you.
