Whiston(i)
And in these days when the disciples were multiplied, there was a murmuring of the Helenists against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration, in the ministration of the Hebrews.
Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said unto them, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.
What is it therefore, brethren? Look ye out from among your selves seven men, attested to be full of the Spirit, and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
But we will give our selves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.
And this saying pleased the whole multitude of the disciples; and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith, and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch.
These were set also before the apostles: who when they had prayed, laid [their] hands on them.
And the word of the Lord increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.
