  2 H3379 And it came to pass, when Jeroboam H1121 the son H5028 of Nebat H4714 , who was in Egypt H1272 [H8804] , where he had fled H6440 from the presence H8010 of Solomon H4428 the king H8085 [H8800] , heard H3379 it, that Jeroboam H7725 [H8799] returned H4714 from Egypt.
  3 H7971 [H8799] And they sent H7121 [H8799] and called H3379 him. So Jeroboam H3478 and all Israel H935 [H8799] came H1696 [H8762] and spoke H7346 to Rehoboam H559 [H8800] , saying,
  4 H1 Thy father H5923 made our yoke H7185 [H8689] grievous H7043 [H8685] : now therefore ease H7186 thou somewhat the grievous H5656 servitude H1 of thy father H3515 , and his heavy H5923 yoke H5414 [H8804] that he put H5647 [H8799] upon us, and we will serve thee.

  6 H4428 And king H7346 Rehoboam H3289 [H8735] took counsel H2205 with the old H5975 [H8802] men that had stood H6440 before H8010 Solomon H1 his father H2416 while he yet lived H559 [H8800] , saying H349 , What H3289 [H8737] counsel give H7725 [H8687] ye me to return H1697 answer H5971 to this people?
  7 H1696 [H8762] And they spoke H559 [H8800] to him, saying H2896 , If thou wilt be kind H5971 to this people H7521 [H8804] , and please H1696 [H8765] them, and speak H2896 good H1697 words H5650 to them, they will be thy servants H3117 for ever.
  8 H5800 [H8799] But he forsook H6098 the counsel H2205 which the old men H3289 [H8804] gave H3289 [H8735] him, and took counsel H3206 with the young men H1431 [H8804] that were brought up H5975 [H8802] with him, that stood H6440 before him.
  9 H559 [H8799] And he said H3289 [H8737] to them, What advice H7725 [H8686] give ye that we may return H1697 answer H5971 to this people H1696 [H8765] , who have spoken H559 [H8800] to me, saying H7043 [H8685] , Ease H5923 somewhat the yoke H1 that thy father H5414 [H8804] put upon us?
  10 H3206 And the young men H1431 [H8804] that were brought up H1696 [H8762] with him spoke H559 [H8800] to him, saying H559 [H8799] , Thus shalt thou answer H5971 the people H1696 [H8765] that spoke H559 [H8800] to thee, saying H1 , Thy father H3513 0 made H5923 our yoke H3513 [H8689] heavy H7043 [H8685] , but make thou it somewhat lighter H559 [H8799] for us; thus shalt thou say H6995 to them, My little H5666 [H8804] finger shall be thicker H1 than my father's H4975 thighs.
  11 H6258 For though H1 my father H6006 [H8689] put H3515 a heavy H5923 yoke H3254 [H8686] upon you, I will put more H5923 to your yoke H1 : my father H3256 [H8765] chastised H7752 you with whips H6137 , but I will chastise you with scorpions.
  12 H3379 So Jeroboam H5971 and all the people H935 [H8799] came H7346 to Rehoboam H7992 on the third H3117 day H4428 , as the king H1696 [H8765] appointed H559 [H8800] , saying H7725 [H8798] , Come again H7992 to me on the third H3117 day.
  13 H4428 And the king H6030 [H8799] answered H7186 them roughly H4428 ; and king H7346 Rehoboam H5800 [H8799] forsook H6098 the counsel H2205 of the old men,
  14 H1696 [H8762] And answered H6098 them after the advice H3206 of the young men H559 [H8800] , saying H1 , My father H5923 made your yoke H3513 [H8689] heavy H3254 [H8686] , but I will add H1 to it: my father H3256 [H8765] chastised H7752 you with whips H6137 , but I will chastise you with scorpions.
  15 H4428 So the king H8085 [H8804] hearkened H5971 not to the people H5252 : for the cause H430 was of God H3068 , that the LORD H6965 [H8687] might perform H1697 his word H1696 [H8765] , which he spoke H3027 by the hand H281 of Ahijah H7888 the Shilonite H3379 to Jeroboam H1121 the son H5028 of Nebat.
  16 H3478 And when all Israel H7200 [H8804] {\i saw H4428 } that the king H8085 [H8804] would not hearken H5971 to them, the people H7725 [H8686] answered H4428 the king H559 [H8800] , saying H2506 , What portion H1732 have we in David H5159 ? and we have no inheritance H1121 in the son H3448 of Jesse H376 : every man H168 to your tents H3478 , O Israel H1732 : and now, David H7200 [H8798] , see H1004 to thy own house H3478 . So all Israel H3212 [H8799] went H168 to their tents.
  17 H1121 But as for the children H3478 of Israel H3427 [H8802] that dwelt H5892 in the cities H3063 of Judah H7346 , Rehoboam H4427 [H8799] reigned over them.
  18 H4428 Then king H7346 Rehoboam H7971 [H8799] sent H1913 Hadoram H4522 that was over the forced labour H1121 ; and the children H3478 of Israel H7275 [H8799] stoned H68 him with stones H4191 [H8799] , that he died H4428 . But king H7346 Rehoboam H553 [H8694] made speed H5927 [H8800] to get H4818 into his chariot H5127 [H8800] , to flee H3389 to Jerusalem.
  19 H3478 And Israel H6586 [H8799] rebelled H1004 against the house H1732 of David H3117 to this day.
