WPNT⁽ⁱ⁾ ²³ because a man is head of his wife as also Christ is Head of the Church—He also is Preserver of the body. ²⁴ Yes, just as the Church is subject to Christ, so also the wives should be to their own husbands in everything. ²⁵ Husbands, love your own wives just as Christ also loved the Church and gave Himself up on her behalf, ²⁶ in order that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of the water: in a word, ²⁷ that He might present her—the splendid Church—to Himself, not having a blemish or a wrinkle or any such thing, but that she be holy and blameless.
