Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi: "Now let me go into the fields and pick up the heads of grain after anyone in whose eyes I find favor." She said to her: "Go, my daughter."
So she went and came and gleaned in the field behind the reapers. And she happened by chance upon the tract of field belonging to Boaz, who was from the clan of Elimelech.
Now when Boaz arrived from Bethlehem, he said to the harvesters, "The LORD be with you." "May the LORD bless you!" they replied.
At this point, Boaz asked the foreman of his harvesters, "To whom does this young woman belong?"
And he answered him: This is the Moabitess, who came with Noemi, from the land of Moab,
She asked us, 'Please allow me to glean what's left of the grain behind the harvesters.' So she came out and has continued working from dawn until now, except for a short time in a shelter."
Then Boaz said to Ruth, Listen, my daughter: Don't go to glean in another field, and don't go away from here, but stay here close to my maidens.
"Keep your eyes on the field the men are harvesting and follow with the girls. I told the men not to touch you. When you are thirsty, drink from the water jars the men keep filled."
Then she bowed down on her face to the earth, and said to him: "Why have I found favor in your eyes? For you give me attention and I am a foreigner."
Boaz answered her, “I have been told all about what you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband, and how you have left your father, your mother, and the land of your birth, and have come to a people that you didn’t know before.
May the LORD repay your work, and a full reward be given you from the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge."
And she said, "May I find favor in your eyes, my lord, for you have comforted me and have spoken kindly to your servant, and I am not one of your servants."
At mealtime Boaz said to her: "Come here, that you may eat of the bread and dip your piece of bread in the vinegar." So she sat beside the reapers. He served her roasted grain. She ate and was satisfied and had some left over.
She rose to glean. Boaz commanded his servants, saying: "Let her glean among the sheaves, and do not bother her.
Also pull out some for her from the bundles, and leave it; let her glean, and don't rebuke her.
So she gleaned in the field until evening; and she beat out that which she had gleaned, and it was about an ephah of barley.
And she picked it up and went to the town. Her mother-in-law saw how much she had gleaned. And she took it out and gave to her what she had left over after being satisfied.
Her mother-in-law said to her, Where have you gleaned today? Where have you worked? Blessed be he who took notice of you! She showed her mother-in-law with whom she had worked and said, The man's name with whom I worked today is Boaz.
Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, "Blessed be he of the LORD, who has not left off his kindness to the living and to the dead." Naomi said to her, "The man is a close relative to us, one of our near kinsmen."
And Ruth the Moabiyth says, He says to me also, Stick by my lads until they finish all my harvest.
And Noomiy says to Ruth her daughter in law, It is good, my daughter, to go with his lasses, so that they not meet you in any other field.
So she stayed close with the maidservants of Boaz to glean until the end of the barley harvest and wheat harvest. And she lived with her mother-in-law.
