Psalms 124:1-150:6

VIN(i) 1 A Song of degrees of David. ¶ If the LORD had not been for us, now may Israel say, 2 if the LORD had not been on our side, when men came against us, 3 then they had swallowed us alive when they kindled their wrath against us: 4 Then the flood waters would have overwhelmed us, the torrent would have flooded over us; 5 the swollen waters would have swept us away. 6 Praise be to the Lord, who has not let us be wounded by their teeth. 7 Our soul has escaped like a bird out of the fowlers' snare; the snare is broken, and we have escaped. 8 Our help is in the name of the LORD, the maker of heaven and earth. 125 1 A song of ascents. Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever. 2 As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his people from this time forth and forevermore. 3 For the scepter of wickedness won't remain over the allotment of the righteous; so that the righteous won't use their hands to do evil. 4 Do good, O Lord, to those who are good, and to those who are upright in heart. 5 And those who turn aside to their crooked ways, the LORD shall lead them with the evildoers. Peace be upon Israel. 126 1 When the LORD brought back those who returned to Zion, we were like those who dream. 2 Then our mouths were filled with laughter, and our tongues formed joyful shouts. Then it was said among the nations, "The LORD has done great things for them." 3 The LORD has done great things for us, and we are glad. 4 Restore our fortunes again, LORD, like the streams in the Negev. 5 Those who sow in tears will reap in joy. 6 He who goes out weeping, carrying seed for sowing, will certainly come again with joy, carrying his sheaves. 127 1 A Song of Ascents. By Solomon. Unless the LORD builds the house, they who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman guards it in vain. 2 It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil, for he gives sleep to his loved ones. 3 Children are an inheritance from the LORD. They are a blessing from him. 4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one's youth. 5 Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them. They shall not be put to shame when they speak with their enemies in the gate. 128 1 A song of ascents. Blessed is everyone who fears the LORD, who walks in his ways. 2 for you eat the labor of your palms; blithed - and good with you 3 Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house. Your children will be like olive shoots about your table. 4 Look, thus is the man blessed who fears the LORD. 5 May the LORD bless you from Zion so that you may see Jerusalem prosper all the days of your life. 6 And may you see your children's children. Peace be upon Israel. 129 1 A song of ascents. "Too often they have attacked me from my youth." Let Israel say, 2 Often they distressed me from my youth, Yet they have not prevailed over me. 3 The plowers plowed on my back. They made their furrows long. 4 The LORD is righteous he has cut me free from the cords of the wicked. 5 Let all who hate Zion be turned away and be ashamed. 6 Let them be like grass on the housetops, that withers before it grows up, 7 with which a reaper cannot fill his hand, nor the binder of sheaves his arms, 8 Nor do those who pass by say: "The blessing of the LORD be upon you! We bless you in the name of the LORD." 130 1 A song of ascents. Out of the depths I call to you, O LORD. 2 Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my petitions. 3 If you, LORD, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? 4 But with you there is forgiveness, so that you may be feared. 5 I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in His Word I hope. 6 My soul longs for the Lord more than watchmen long for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning. 7 O Israel, hope in the LORD; for with the LORD there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption 8 He will redeem Israel from all their sins. 131 1 LORD, my heart isn't haughty, nor my eyes lofty; nor do I concern myself with great matters, or things too wonderful for me. 2 Surely I have stilled and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with his mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me. 3 O Israel, hope in the LORD from now until forever. 132 1 [A song of ascents.] LORD, remember David, and all his afflictions: 2 Remember how he swore an oath to the LORD and made this vow to the Mighty One of Jacob. 3 "I will not enter my house, or lie down on my bed, 4 I will give no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids, 5 until I find out a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob." 6 We heard about it in Ephrata; we found it in the fields of Jaar. 7 Let us go to his dwelling place. Let us worship at his footstool. 8 Arise, LORD, and go to your resting place, you and the ark of your strength. 9 Let your priests be clothed with righteousness. Let your saints shout for joy!” 10 For the sake of your servant David do not reject your anointed one. 11 The LORD made an oath to David from which he will not retreat: "One of your sons I will set in place on your throne. 12 If your sons keep my covenant and my statutes that I will teach them, then their sons will also sit on your throne forever." 13 For the LORD has chosen Zion; he has desired it for his dwelling. 14 "This is my resting place forever. Here I will live, for I have desired it. 15 I will bless its provisions abundantly; I will satiate its poor with food.f 16 And I will clothe her priests with salvation, and her saints shall shout aloud for joy. 17 There I will cause a horn to grow for David; I will set a lamp for my anointed one. 18 I will clothe his enemies with shame, but on himself, his crown will be resplendent." 133 1 A song of ascents. Of David. Look, how good and how pleasant it is when brothers dwell together in unity. 2 It is like the precious oil upon the head, coming down upon the beard, Aaron's beard, coming down upon the edge of his robes. 3 Like the dew of Hermon, which fell upon the hill of Zion. For there the LORD promised his blessing, and life forevermore. 134 1 Behold, praise the LORD, all you servants of the LORD, who stand by night in the house of the LORD. 2 Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and praise the LORD. 3 May the LORD who fashions heaven and earth bless you from Zion. 135 1 Praise the LORD. Praise the name of the LORD. Praise him, you servants of the LORD, 2 you who stand in the house of the LORD, in the courts of the house of our God. 3 Praise the LORD, for the LORD is good. Sing praises to his name, for that is pleasant. 4 For the LORD has chosen Jacob for himself; Israel for his own possession. 5 For I know that the LORD is great, and our Lord is greater than all gods. 6 The LORD does whatever pleases him in heaven and on earth, in the seas and all its deep regions. 7 He causes clouds to rise from the edge of the earth; he makes lightnings for the rain; he brings out the wind from his storehouses. 8 He struck the firstborn of Egypt, both of man and animal. 9 He sent signs and wonders into your midst, O Egypt, against Pharaoh and all his servants. 10 He struck many nations, and killed mighty kings, 11 Sihon king of the Amorites, Og king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of Canaan, 12 and he gave their land as an inheritance, an inheritance to his people Israel. 13 Your name, LORD, endures forever; your renown, LORD, throughout all generations. 14 For the LORD will judge his people, and have compassion on his servants. 15 The idols of the nations are silver and gold, Work of the hands of man. 16 They have a mouth, but cannot speak: eyes they have, but they cannot see; 17 they have ears, but they do not hear, nor is there breath in their mouths. 18 Those who make them will be like them, yes, everyone who trusts in them. 19 O house of Israel, praise the LORD. O house of Aaron, praise the LORD. 20 O house of Levi, praise the LORD. You who fear the LORD, praise the LORD. 21 Blessed be the LORD from Zion, Who dwells at Jerusalem. Praise the LORD. 136 1 Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; for His grace endures forever. 2 Give thanks to the God of gods; for His grace endures forever. 3 Give thanks to the Lord of lords; for His grace endures forever: 4 to Him who alone does great wonders; for His grace endures forever: 5 to Him who by understanding made the heavens; for His grace endures forever: 6 to Him who spread out the earth above the waters; for His grace endures forever: 7 Who made the great lights: for his mercy endureth for ever. 8 the sun to rule by day; for His grace endures forever; 9 the moon and stars to rule by night; for His grace endures forever: 10 to Him who struck down the Egyptian firstborn; for His grace endures forever; 11 and brought Israel out from among them; for His mercy endures forever; 12 With a mighty hand and stretched-out arm! For his mercy endureth forever. 13 to Him who divided the Red Sea apart; for His grace endures forever; 14 and brought Israel through the midst of it; for His mercy endures forever; 15 but threw Pharaoh and his army in the Red Sea; for His mercy endures forever. 16 to him, who led his people through the desert; for his mercy endureth forever; 17 To Him who struck down great kings; for His mercy endures forever; 18 and killed mighty kings; for His grace endures forever: 19 Sihon king of the Amorites; for His grace endures forever; 20 and Og king of Bashan; for His mercy endures forever; 21 and gave their land as an inheritance; for His grace endures forever; 22 an inheritance to His servant Israel; for His mercy endures forever; 23 For the Lord remembered us in our low estate; for His mercy endures forever; 24 and redeemed us from our enemies; for His mercy endures forever. 25 who gives food to every creature; for His grace endures forever. 26 Give thanks to the God of heaven; for His mercy endures forever. 137 1 By the waters of Babylon we sat down; and wept, when we remembered Zion. 2 On the willows there we hung our harps, 3 For there, those who led us captive asked us for songs. Those who tormented us demanded songs of joy: "Sing us one of the songs of Zion." 4 How could we sing the song of the LORD in a foreign land? 5 If I forget you, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget its skill. 6 Let my tongue stick to the roof of my mouth if I do not remember you, if I do not consider Jerusalem my highest joy. 7 Remember, O LORD, against the sons of Edom, the day of Jerusalem; who said, Lay [it] bare, Lay [it] bare, down to its foundation! 8 Daughter of Babylon, doomed to destruction, he will be happy who repays you, as you have done to us. 9 Blessed is he who seizes your little ones and dashes them against the stone! 138 1 Of David. I give you thanks with my whole heart; before the gods I sing your praise. 2 I will bow down toward Your holy temple, and give thanks to Your Name for Your grace and for Your truth; for You have exalted above all things your name and your word. 3 When I called, you answered me. You made me bold. You strengthened me. 4 All the kings of the earth shall praise you, O LORD, when they hear the words of your mouth. 5 Yes, they shall sing in the ways of the LORD; for the glory of the LORD is great. 6 Though the LORD is high, yet He looks upon the lowly; but the proud He knows from afar. 7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve me alive. You stretch out your hand against the anger of my enemies, and you save me with your right hand. 8 the LORD will perfect His work in me; Your mercy, O LORD, endures forever; do not forsake the work of Your own hands. 139 1 For the music director. Of David. A psalm. O LORD, you have searched me, and you know me. 2 You know when I sit down and when I rise up. You understand my thought from afar. 3 Thou measurest my going about and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. 4 For not a word is on my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, You know it all. 5 You hem me in behind and before, You have laid Your hand on me. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; too high, I cannot attain unto it. 7 Where can I go from your Spirit? Or where can I flee from your presence? 8 If I go up to heaven, you are there: or if I make my bed in the underworld, you are there. 9 If I lift up the wings of the dawn, and I alight on the far side of the sea, 10 even there your hand will lead me, and your right hand will hold me. 11 If I say: Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light around me. 12 even the darkness doesn’t hide from you, but the night shines as the day. The darkness is like light to you. 13 For you formed my inmost being. You knit me together in my mother's womb. 14 I praise you, because I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works, and my soul knows it well. 15 My frame wasn’t hidden from you, when I was made in secret, woven together in the depths of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw my embryo and all were written in your book; the days ordained for me. Even this before one had taken place. 17 How precious to me are your thoughts, God. How vast is the sum of them. 18 If I should count them, they would outnumber the sand. When I awake, I am still with you. 19 If only you, God, would kill the wicked. Get away from me, you bloodthirsty men! 20 For they go against you with evil designs, and your haters make sport of your name. 21 Do I not hate those who hate you, O LORD? And do I not loathe those who rise up against you? 22 I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them my enemies. 23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 And see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. 140 1 For the music director. A psalm of David. Rescue me, O LORD, from evil men. Preserve me from violent men, 2 who craft evil plans in their minds, inciting wars every day. 3 They sharpen their tongue as sharp as a snake's; the venom of a viper is under their lips. Selah 4 Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the man of violence, who have purposed to overthrow my steps. 5 The proud have hidden a snare for me, they have spread the cords of a net by the path. They have set traps for me. Selah. 6 I have said to the Lord, You are my God: give ear, O Lord, to the voice of my prayer. 7 LORD, my Lord, my strong deliverer, you have protected my head in the time of battle. 8 LORD, do not grant the desires of the wicked. Do not let their evil plans succeed, or they will become proud. Selah. 9 Let the heads of those who surround me be covered with their own threats. 10 Let burning coals fall upon them! Let them be cast into fire, into miry pits, no more to rise. 11 Let not the slanderer become established in the land. May evil quickly hunt down the violent man. 12 I know that the lord shall deal with the case of the poor, and the cause of the needy. 13 Surely the righteous will give thanks to your name, while the upright live in your presence. 141 1 A Psalm of David. O LORD, I cry to You; hasten to me; hear my voice when I cry to You. 2 Let my prayer be set before you like incense; the lifting up of my hands like the evening sacrifice. 3 Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips. 4 Let not my heart turn aside to any evil thing, to practice wicked works with men who work iniquity; and let me not eat of their delicacies. 5 Let the righteous strike me, it is kindness; let him reprove me, it is like oil on the head; don't let my head refuse it; Yet my prayer is always against evil deeds. 6 Their judges are thrown down by the sides of the rock. They will hear my words, for they are well spoken. 7 As when one plows and breaks up the earth, so our bones are scattered at the mouth of Sheol. 8 But my eyes are on You, O Sovereign LORD; in You I take refuge, do not leave my soul naked. 9 Keep me from the snare which they have laid for me, from the traps of evildoers. 10 Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I pass over. 142 1 I cry with my voice to the LORD. With my voice, I ask the LORD for mercy. 2 I pour out my complaint before him. I tell him my troubles. 3 When my spirit faints within me, you know my way. On the path where I walk, they have hidden a trap for me; 4 Look on my right, and see; for there is no one who is concerned for me. Refuge has fled from me. No one cares for my soul. 5 I cry out to you, O LORD. I say, "You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living." 6 Listen to my cry, for I am in desperate need. Deliver me from my persecutors, for they are too strong for me. 7 Release me from prison so that I may praise your name. Righteous people will surround me because you are good to me. 143 1 A psalm of David. O LORD, hear my prayer; listen to my supplications. In your faithfulness answer me, and in your righteousness. 2 And do not enter into judgment with your servant, because no one alive is righteous before you. 3 For the enemy has pursued my soul; he has crushed my life to the ground. He has made me dwell in dark places like those long dead. 4 And so my spirit grows faint within me; my heart within me is desolate. 5 I remember the days of long ago; I meditate on all your doings. I muse on the labor of your hands. 6 I spread out my hands to you. My soul thirsts for you, like a parched land. Selah. 7 Answer me quickly, O LORD for my spirit fails. Do not hide your face from me or I will become like those who go down to the pit. 8 In the morning let me hear of your gracious love, for in you I trust. Cause me to know the way I should take, because I have set my hope on you. 9 Deliver me from my enemies, O LORD. I take refuge in you. 10 Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground. 11 For your name's sake, O LORD, preserve my life; in your righteousness bring me out of trouble. 12 In your loving kindness, cut off my enemies and destroy all those who afflict me. For I am your servant. 144 1 By David. Blessed is the LORD my rock, who is teaching My hands for war, my fingers for battle. 2 my loyal love and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield, and one in whom I take refuge, the one who subdues peoples under me. 3 LORD, what is man, that you care for him? Or the son of man, that you think of him? 4 Man is like the breath: his days are like a passing shadow. 5 Part your heavens, LORD, and come down. Touch the mountains, and they will smoke. 6 Send forth lightning and scatter the enemy, shoot your arrows and confuse them. 7 Stretch out your hands from on high; Rescue me and deliver me from many waters, from the hand of foreigners, 8 Their mouths speak lies, and their right hand deceives, 9 I will sing a new song to you, God. On a ten-stringed lyre, I will sing praises to you. 10 You who gives salvation to kings, who delivers His servant David from the evil sword. 11 Rescue me and deliver me from the control of foreigners, whose mouths speak lies, and whose right hand deceives. 12 Then our sons will be like well-nurtured plants, our daughters like pillars carved to adorn a palace. 13 Our barns will be full, filled with all kinds of provision; our sheep will bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our fields. 14 Our oxen will pull heavy loads, there will be no breaking in and no going away, and no crying in our streets. 15 Blessed are the people who have it thus. Blessed are the people whose God is the LORD. 145 1 A praise psalm by David. I will exalt you, my God, the King. I will praise your name forever and ever. 2 Every day I will praise you. I will extol your name forever and ever. 3 Great is the LORD, and very worthy of praise, and his greatness is unsearchable. 4 One generation will commend your works to another, and will declare your mighty acts. 5 I will speak of the glorious honor of Your majesty, and of Your wonderful works. 6 And they will speak of the power of your awesome deeds, and I will tell of your greatness. 7 They will utter the memory of your great goodness, and will sing of your righteousness. 8 the LORD is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and great in loyal love. 9 the LORD is good to all, And His compassions are over all His works." 10 All your works will give thanks to you, the LORD. Your saints will extol you. 11 They shall speak of the glory of Your kingdom, and talk of Your might; 12 To make known to the children of men his mighty acts, and the glorious splendour of his kingdom. 13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom. Your dominion endures throughout all generations. the LORD is faithful in all his words, and loving in all his deeds. 14 the LORD upholds all who fall, and raises up all who are bowed down. 15 The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food in due time. 16 You open your hand, and satisfy the desire of every living thing. 17 The LORD is righteous in all his ways, and faithful in all his deeds. 18 the LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. 19 He fulfilleth the desire of them that fear him; he heareth their cry, and saveth them. 20 the LORD watches over all those who love Him; but all the wicked He will destroy. 21 My mouth will speak the praise of the LORD! All flesh will praise his holy name forever and ever. 146 1 Praise the LORD. Praise the LORD, O my soul. 2 I will praise the LORD while I live; I will sing praises to my God while I am still alive. 3 Don’t put your trust in princes, in a son of man in whom there is no help. 4 When they stop breathing, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans evaporate! 5 Blessed is he whose helper is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God: 6 who made heaven and earth, the sea and all that is in them, the one who keeps faith forever, 7 He executes justice for the oppressed. He gives food to the hungry. the LORD sets the prisoners free. 8 the LORD gives sight to the blind. The LORD lifts up those who are weighed down. The LORD loves the righteous. 9 the LORD protects the strangers. He supports the fatherless and the widow, but he overthrows the way of the wicked. 10 The LORD will reign forever; your God, O Zion, to all generations. Praise the LORD. 147 1 Praise the LORD, for it is good to sing praises to our God; for it is pleasant and fitting to praise him. 2 the LORD builds up Jerusalem; He gathers the outcasts of Israel. 3 He heals the broken-hearted, and binds up their wounds. 4 He determines the number of the stars; he calls them all by their names. 5 Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; his understanding is infinite 6 The LORD upholds the humble. He brings the wicked down to the ground. 7 Sing to the LORD a song of thanksgiving. Make music to our God with a harp. 8 He covers the sky with clouds. He provides rain for the ground. He makes grass grow on the mountains. 9 He provides food for the livestock, and for the young ravens when they call. 10 He takes no delight in the strength of the horse, nor any pleasure in the legs of a man. 11 the LORD takes pleasure in those who fear him, the ones who hope for his loyal love. 12 Laud the LORD, O Jerusalem; praise your God, O Zion, 13 for he strengthens the bars of your gates. He blesses your children within you; 14 He grants peace within your borders, satisfying you with the finest of wheat. 15 He sends out his command to the earth; his word runs swiftly. 16 He gives snow like wool: he scatters the frost like ashes. 17 He hurls down his hail like pebbles. Who can stand before his cold? 18 He sends out his word and melts them; he blows his breath, the water flows. 19 He speaks his word to Jacob, his laws and judgments to Israel. 20 He has not done this for just any nation. They do not know his ordinances. Praise the LORD. 148 1 Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD from the heavens. Praise him in the heights above. 2 Praise him, all his angels: praise him, all his hosts. 3 Praise him, sun and moon; praise him, all you shining stars. 4 Praise him, you highest heaven and the water above the sky. 5 Let them praise the name of the LORD: for he commanded, and they were created. 6 And he put them in place forever and ever, by a decree he gave that will not pass away. 7 Praise the LORD from the earth, you great sea creatures, and all depths. 8 lightning and hail, snow and clouds; stormy wind, fulfilling his word; 9 Ye mountains, and all hills, fruit trees, and all cedars; 10 wild animals and all livestock; small creatures and flying birds; 11 Ye kings of the earth, and all nations; ye princes, and all judges of the earth; 12 young men and maidens, old men and children, 13 Let them praise the name of the LORD: for his name alone is exalted; his majesty is above the earth and the heavens. 14 He also lifts up the horn of His people, the praise of all His saints, of the sons of Israel, a people near to Him, Praise the LORD. 149 1 Praise the LORD! Sing to the LORD a new song, his praise in the assembly of the saints. 2 Let Israel rejoice in his Maker; let the sons of Zion be joyful in their King. 3 Let them praise his name with dancing. Let them make music to him with tambourines and lyres. 4 For the LORD takes pleasure in his people. He crowns the humble with salvation. 5 Let the saints rejoice in honor. Let them sing for joy on their beds. 6 May the high praises of God be in their mouths, and a two-edged sword in their hand, 7 to execute vengeance on the nations and punishment on the peoples, 8 to bind their kings with fetters, and their nobles with manacles of iron; 9 to carry out on them the judgment written; this is an honor for all His saints. Praise the LORD! 150 1 Praise the LORD! Praise God in his holy place. Praise him in his mighty heavens. 2 Praise him for his mighty acts. Praise him for his immense greatness. 3 Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet! Praise him with harp and lyre! 4 Praise him with tambourine and dancing; praise him with strings and flute. 5 Praise him with loud cymbals! Praise him with resounding cymbals! 6 Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD.
