The LORD spoke to Moses, after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they drew near before the LORD, and died;
And the LORD said to Moses, "Tell your brother Aaron that he should not enter at any time into the sanctuary behind the curtain in front of the atonement cover that is on the ark, so that he might not die, because I appear in the cloud over the atonement cover.
"Herewith shall Aaron come into the sanctuary: with a young bull for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt offering.
He shall put on the holy linen tunic. He shall have the linen trousers on his body, and shall put on the linen sash, and he shall be clothed with the linen turban. They are the holy garments. He shall bathe his body in water, and put them on.
And he shall take of the multitude of the children of Israel two goats for a sin offering and a ram for a burnt offering.
And Aaron shall offer the young bull for his own sin offering, and make atonement for himself and his household.
And he is to take the two goats and put them before the Lord at the door of the Tent of meeting.
Aaron shall cast lots for the two goats; one lot for the LORD, and the other lot for the scapegoat.
Aaron shall present the goat on which the lot fell for the LORD, and offer him for a sin offering.
But the goat on which the lot fell for the scapegoat shall be presented alive before the LORD to make atonement for him, and then sent away as the scapegoat into the wilderness.
Then Aaron shall bring forward the young bull for his own sin offering, to make atonement for himself and his household, and shall slay the young bull for his sin offering;
And he is to take a vessel full of burning coal from the altar before the Lord and in his hand some sweet perfume crushed small, and take it inside the veil;
and he shall put the incense on the fire before the LORD, that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy seat that is on the testimony, so that he will not die.
"He will take some of the bull's blood and sprinkle it with his finger on the east side of the throne of mercy. Then he will sprinkle some of the blood with his finger seven times in front of the throne of mercy.
Then let him put to death the goat of the sin-offering for the people, and take its blood inside the veil and do with it as he did with the blood of the ox, shaking drops of it on and before the cover of the ark.
and he shall make atonement for the Holy Place, because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and because of their transgressions, even all their sins; and so he shall do for the Tent of Meeting, that dwells with them in the midst of their uncleanness.
No one shall be in the Tent of Meeting when he enters to make atonement in the Holy Place, until he comes out, and has made atonement for himself and for his household, and for all the assembly of Israel.
"He shall go out to the altar that is before the LORD and make atonement for it, and shall take some of the bull's blood, and some of the goat's blood, and put it around on the horns of the altar.
He shall sprinkle some of the blood on it with his finger seven times, and cleanse it, and make it holy from the uncleanness of the children of Israel.
“When he has finished atoning for the Holy Place, the Tent of Meeting, and the altar, he shall present the live goat.
and Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live he goat and confess over it all the iniquities of the sons of Israel and all their rebellions and all their sins, putting them thus upon the head of the he goat and shall send him away into the wilderness by the hand of a man prepared for this;
"The goat will take all their sins away to a deserted place. The man must release the goat in the desert.
“Aaron shall come into the Tent of Meeting, and shall take off the linen garments which he put on when he went into the Holy Place, and shall leave them there.
Then he shall bathe himself in water in a holy place, and put on his garments, and come out and offer his burnt offering and the burnt offering of the people, and make atonement for himself and for the people.
and shall offer up the suet of the sin offerings on the altar.
“He who lets the goat go as the scapegoat shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp.
"The bull and the goat used for the sin offering, whose blood was brought into the Most Holy Place to take away sin, will be carried outside the camp and burned. Skin, meat, and intestines must all be burned.
And he who burns them will wash his clothes and bathe his flesh in water and afterward he will come into the camp.
"And this shall be a lasting statute for you: in the seventh month, on the tenth of the month, you must deny yourselves and you must not do any work, whether the native or the alien who is dwelling in your midst,
For on this day atonement will be made for you, to cleanse you. You will be clean from all your sins before the LORD.
It is a Sabbath of complete rest for you, and you shall deny yourselves—it is a lasting statute.
And the priest that is anointed and whose hand was filled to minister in his father's stead, shall make the atonement and shall put on the holy linen vestments,
and perform the ritual to purify the Most Holy Place, the rest of the Tent of the LORD's presence, the altar, the priests, and all the people of the community.
And this shall be an everlasting ordinance unto you to make an atonement for the children of Israel for all their sins once a year." And it was done even as the LORD commanded Moses.
