Genesis 22

VIN(i) 1 After these things, God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!” He said, “Here I am.” 2 He said, “Now take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go into the land of Moriah. Offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains which I will tell you of.” 3 Early the next morning Abraham saddled his donkey. He took two of his servants and his son Isaac with him. He had cut the wood for the burnt offering. Then he set out for the place that God had told him about. 4 On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and he saw the place at a distance. 5 He said to the servants: "Stay here with the donkey. The boy and I will go over there and worship. Then we will come back to you." 6 And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on his son Isaac; and he took the fire and the knife in his hand. And the two went together. 7 Isaac spoke to Abraham his father, and said, "My father?" He said, "Here I am, my son." He said, "Here is the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?" 8 And Abraham said, "God will provide the lamb for a burnt offering, my son." And the two of them went together. 9 They came to the place God had told him about. Abraham built an altar and arranged the wood on it. He tied up his son and placed him on the altar, on top of the wood. 10 And Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. 11 And the angel of the LORD called to him from heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham. And he said, Here am I. 12 He said, "Do not lay your hand on the boy, neither do anything to him. For now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me." 13 Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in the bushes. So he took the ram and sacrificed it in place of his son. 14 And Abraham called the name of that place "the LORD will provide," for which reason it is said today, "on the mountain of the LORD it shall be provided." 15 The angel of the LORD called to Abraham from heaven a second time. 16 And he said, "I swear by myself, declares the LORD, that because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only child, 17 '"I will certainly bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and the grains of sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of their enemies' cities. 18 And by your offspring all the nations of the earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice." 19 And Abraham returned to his servants, and they got up and went together to Beersheba. And Abraham lived in Beersheba. 20 After these things, Abraham was told, “Behold, Milcah, she also has borne children to your brother Nahor: 21 Uz his firstborn, Buz his brother, Kemuel the father of Aram, 22 Chesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph, and Bethuel." 23 Bethuel became the father of Rebekah. These eight Milcah bore to Nahor, Abraham's brother. 24 His concubine, whose name was Reumah, also bore Tebah, Gaham, Tahash, and Maacah.
