Ezra 8

VIN(i) 1 These were their patriarchal heads and those registered with them who came up with me from Babylon in the reign of king Artaxerxes: 2 From the descendants of Phinehas: Gershom. From the descendants of Ithamar: Daniel. From the descendants of David: Hattush. 3 son of Shecaniah; from the sons of Parosh, Zechariah, and with him were registered 150 males;" 4 From the descendants of Pahath-Moab: Eliehoenai son of Zerahiah and with him two hundred males. 5 from the sons of Zattu, Shecaniah son of Jahaziel, and with him 300 males;" 6 From the descendants of Adin: Ebed son of Jehonathan, and with him fifty males. 7 From the descendants of Elam: Jeshaiah son of Athaliah, and with him seventy males. 8 From the descendants of Shephatiah: Zebadiah son of Michael, and with him eighty males. 9 From the descendants of Joab: Obadiah son of Jehiel, and with him two hundred and eighteen males. 10 and from the sons of Bani, Shelomith son of Josiphiah, and with him 160 males;" 11 From the descendants of Bebai: Zechariah son of Bebai, and with him twenty-eight males. 12 and from the sons of Azgad, Johanan son of Hakkatan, and with him 110 males;" 13 And of the sons of Adonikam, the last, whose names were Eliphelet, Jeuel, and Shemaiah; and with them sixty males. 14 Of the sons also of Bigvai; Uthai, and Zaccur, and with them seventy men. 15 And I gathered them together by the water that runneth toward Ahava, and there abode we three days. And when I looked among the people and the priests, I found no Levites there. 16 Then sent I to Eliezer, Ariel, Shemaiah, Elnathan, Jarib, Elnathan, Nathan, Zechariah, and Meshullam, the rulers, and Joiarib and Elnathan, which were men of understanding. 17 I sent them out to Iddo the chief at the place Casiphia; and I told them what they should tell Iddo, and his brothers the temple servants, at the place Casiphia, that they should bring to us ministers for the house of our God. 18 And by the good hand of our God on us they brought us a man of understanding, from the sons of Mahli, the son of Levi, the son of Israel, and Sherebiah, with his sons and his brothers, eighteen; 19 Hashabiah and Jeshaiah from the descendants of Merari and 20 of his brothers and their sons; 20 220 descendants of the temple Servants whom David and the leaders had appointed to serve the Levites, listed by name. 21 And even there at the water beside Ahava, I proclaimed a fast, that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek of him a right way for us, and our children and all our substance. 22 For I was ashamed to ask the king for troops and horses to protect us from enemies on the way because we said to the king, "the hand of our God is favorable to all who seek him, but his strength and anger are against all who forsake them." 23 So we fasted and besought our God for this: and he answered our prayer. 24 Then I set apart twelve of the chiefs of the priests, even Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and ten of their brothers with them, 25 And weighed unto them the silver, and the gold, and the articles, even the offering for the house of our God, which the king, and his counselors, and his lords, and all Israel there present, had offered: 26 I divided among them 650 silver talents, silver utensils weighing 100 talents, 7,500 gold talents, 27 Also twenty bowls of gold, worth a thousand darics; and two vessels of fine polished bronze, as precious as gold. 28 I said to them, "You are holy to the LORD, and the vessels are holy; and the silver and the gold are a freewill offering to the LORD, the God of your fathers. 29 Be alert and guard them until you weigh them out in the rooms of the House of the LORD before the priests' chiefs and the Levites and the heads of the fathers' houses of Israel in Jerusalem. 30 So the priests and the Levites took the weight of the silver, and the gold, and the articles, to bring them to Jerusalem, to the house of our God. 31 On the twelfth day of the first month we set out from the river of Ahava to go to Jerusalem. The hand of our God was on us and he delivered us from the hand of the enemy and from ambushing on the way. 32 We arrived in Jerusalem and remained there three days. 33 On the fourth day, the silver, gold, and vessels were weighed in the house of our God into the hand of priest Meremoth, the son of Uriah, and with him Eleazar son of Phinehas. With them were the Levites, Jehozabad son of Jeshua and Noadiah son of Binnui. 34 Everything was checked by number and by weight; and the entire weight was listed. At that time 35 The exiles that returned from captivity offered burnt offerings to the God of Israel; twelve bulls for all Israel, ninety-six rams, seventy-seven lambs, and twelve goats as a sin offering. All was a burnt offering to the LORD. 36 And they delivered the king’s orders unto the king’s satraps, and to the governors on this side the river: and they aided the people, and the house of God.
