Deuteronomy 9:8-16

VIN(i) 8 Also in Horeb you provoked the LORD to wrath, and the LORD was angry with you to destroy you. 9 when I went up into the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant, which the Lord made with you, and I was in the mountain forty days and forty nights, I ate no bread and drank no water. 10 "Then the LORD gave me the two stone tablets inscribed by God's finger (Holy Spirit). On them were written all the words the LORD spoke to you from the fire on the mountain on the day of the assembly. 11 "At the end of forty days and nights the LORD gave me the two stone tablets, the tablets of the covenant. 12 "Then the LORD said to me, 'Get going! Go down from here at once! Your people whom you brought out of Egypt have become corrupt. They have turned quickly from the way that I commanded them, and have cast an idol for their use.' 13 And the LORD spoke to me saying:I have seen this people, and behold, they are a stiff-necked people. 14 Let me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from under heaven: and I will make of thee a nation mightier and greater than they. 15 So I turned and came down from the mount, and the mount was burning with fire. And the two tablets of the covenant were in my two hands. 16 »I saw that you had indeed sinned against the LORD your God. You made yourselves an idol, cast in the shape of a calf. You turned aside quickly from the way the LORD had commanded you.
