Deuteronomy 32

VIN(i) 1 Give ear, O heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. 2 May my teaching trickle like the dew, my words like rain showers on tender grass, and like spring showers on new growth. 3 "I will proclaim the name of the LORD and ascribe greatness to our God. 4 The Rock: his work is perfect, for all his ways are just. A God of faithfulness who does no wrong, just and right is he. 5 They have dealt corruptly with him. [They are] not his sons, [it is] their blemish, a perverse and crooked generation. 6 "Is this how you repay the LORD, you foolish and unwise people? Is he not your Father and creator, who made you and formed you? 7 Remember the days of old; consider the years of many generations. Ask your father, and he will show you; your elders, and they will tell you. 8 When the Most High gave to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the sons of men, he set the bounds of the peoples according to the number of the sons of Israel. 9 For the LORD's portion is his people. Jacob is the lot of his inheritance. 10 He found him in a desert land, and in the waste, a howling wilderness. He encircled him and cared for him; He guarded him as the pupil of His eye. 11 "Like an eagle that stirs up its nest and hovers over its young, spreads its wings to catch them, and carries them on its wings, 12 "the LORD alone led his people. No foreign god was with them. 13 "He made him ride on the heights of the earth and fed him with the produce of the fields. He gave him honey from rocks and olive oil from solid rock. 14 butter from cows, and milk from sheep, with fat of lambs, and rams of the sons of Bashan, and goats, with the fat of kidneys of wheat. And you drank the blood of the grape. 15 But Jeshurun grew fat, and kicked; you grew fat, thick and sated. And he abandoned God who made him, and fell away from the Rock of his salvation. 16 They provoked him to jealousy over foreigners and to anger over detestable things. 17 They sacrificed to demons, not God, to gods that they did not know, to new gods that came up of late, which your fathers did not dread. 18 "You ignored the rock that fathered you and forgot the God who gave you life. 19 The LORD saw it and became jealous, provoked by his sons and daughters. 20 He said, “I will hide my face from them. I will see what their end will be; for they are a very perverse generation, children in whom is no faithfulness. 21 They made me jealous with not God; They irritated me with their vanities: And I will make them jealous with not a people; With a foolish nation will I irritate them. 22 For a fire has been kindled in My anger, and it burns to the lowest Sheol, and consumes the earth and its produce; and sets on fire the foundations of the mountains. 23 I will heap evils upon them, and will spend my arrows among them. 24 While they are wasting by famine, and voracious birds; The burning carbuncle also shall be incurable; I will send against them the teeth of wild beasts, With the venom of serpents, trailing on the ground. 25 Outside the sword will bereave, and in the rooms, terror on both young man and virgin, the nursing infant with the gray-haired man. 26 I said: "I will scatter them, erasing their memory from the human race, 27 Were it not that I feared the wrath of the enemy, lest their adversaries should misunderstand, and lest they should say, Our hand has triumphed, and the LORD has not done all this. 28 For they are a nation without wisdom; there is no sense in them. 29 If only they were wise, they would understand this; they would discern for themselves their end. 30 How could one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, and the LORD had delivered them up? 31 For their rock isn't like our Rock, as even our enemies admit. 32 For their vine is from the vine of Sodom, and from the terraces of Gomorrah; their grapes are grapes of poison; ⌊their clusters are bitter⌋. 33 Their wine is the venom of serpents, a poisonous cobra. 34 Do I not have this laid up in store, sealed up in my treasuries? 35 Vengeance is mine, I will repay, at the time when their foot slides; for the day of their calamity is near, and the things to come hasten upon them." 36 For the LORD shall judge his people, and have compassion on his servants, when he sees that their power is gone, and there is none left, slave or free. 37 He will say, “Where are their gods, the rock in which they took refuge; 38 which ate the fat of their sacrifices, and drank the wine of their drink offering? Let them rise up and help you! Let them be your protection. 39 See, now, that I, even I am he, and there is not a god besides me; I put to death and I give life; I wound and I heal; there is not one who delivers from my hand! 40 For I lift up My hand to heaven and say, as surely as I live forever, 41 if I sharpen my glittering sword, my hand grasps it in judgment; I will take vengeance on my adversaries, and will repay those who hate me. 42 I will make my arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall devour flesh, of the blood of the slain and of the captivity, of the bare head of the enemies. 43 Rejoice, you nations, with his people, for he will avenge the blood of his servants. He will take vengeance on his adversaries, and will make atonement for his land and for his people. 44 Then Moses came, along with Joshua son of Nun, and spoke all the words of this song in the hearing of the people. 45 Moses finished reciting all these words to all Israel. 46 he said to them, Set your heart to all the words which I testify to you this day, which you must command your children to observe to do, all the words of this law. 47 because they're not just empty words for you they are your very life. Through these instructions you will live long in the land that you are about to cross over the Jordan River to possess. 48 That same day the Lord said to Moses, 49 "Go up to this mountain of the Abarim range, Mount Nebo, which is opposite Jericho, and see the land of Canaan that I am giving to the Israelites as a possession. 50 and die in the mountain where you are going, and be gathered to your people, even as your brother Aaron died on Mount Hor, and was gathered to his people; 51 because of the fact that you broke faith with me in the midst of Israel at the waters of Meribah Kadesh, in the desert of Zin, because you did not treat me as holy in the midst of the Israelites. 52 "You will see the land at a distance, but you will not go into the land I am giving the sons of Israel."
