2 Chronicles 20

VIN(i) 1 Shortly after that the Moabites, Ammonites, and some of the Meunites came to wage war against Jehoshaphat. 2 Some men reported to Jehoshaphat: "A large crowd is coming against you from the other side of the Dead Sea, from Edom. The crowd is already in Hazazon Tamar (En Gedi)." 3 And Jehoshaphat feared, and set his face to seek to the LORD, and proclaimed a fast over all Judah. 4 The people of Judah gathered to seek the LORD’s help. They came from every city in Judah. 5 And Jehoshaphat standeth in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the LORD, at the front of the new court, 6 and he said, "O LORD, the God of our fathers, aren't you God in heaven? Aren't you ruler over all the kingdoms of the nations? Power and might are in your hand, so that no one is able to withstand you. 7 Did you not, our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel, and give it forever to the descendants of Abraham your friend? 8 and they have lived in it, and have built in it a sanctuary to You for Your name, saying, 9 'If evil comes upon us, such as war as punishment, disease, or famine and we stand in your presence in this temple (because your Name is in this temple) and cry out to you in our distress, then you will hear and deliver.' 10 And now, behold, the sons of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir (whom you would not let Israel invade when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned aside from them and did not destroy them), 11 now behold, they are rewarding us by coming to dispossess us from your possession which you gave us as an inheritance. 12 Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no might against this great company that comes against us. We don’t know what to do, but our eyes are on you.” 13 All the people from Judah, their infants, wives, and children were standing in front of the LORD. 14 Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jahaziel, the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, the Levite from the descendants of Asaph, in the midst of the assembly. 15 And he said, Listen, all Judah, and you people of Jerusalem, and King Jehoshaphat! So says the LORD to you, Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude. For the battle is not yours, but God's. 16 Tomorrow go down against them. Behold, they are coming up the ascent of Ziz. And you will find them at the end of the valley facing the desert of Jeruel. 17 You will not need to fight this battle. Set yourselves, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid, nor be dismayed. Go out against them tomorrow, for the LORD is with you.'" 18 And Jehoshaphat bowed his face to the ground. And all Judah and the people of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshiping the LORD. 19 Then the Levites, from the Kohathites and from the Korahites stood up to praise the LORD the God of Israel with an exceedingly loud voice. 20 They rose early in the morning, and went out into the wilderness of Tekoa. As they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Listen to me, Judah, and you inhabitants of Jerusalem! Believe in the LORD your God, so you will be established! Believe his prophets, so you will prosper.” 21 And he consulted with the people, and appointed singers to the LORD, and those giving praise to the glory of holiness, when going out before those armed, and said, Give thanks to the LORD, for His mercy endures forever. 22 And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushes against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, who were come against Judah; and they were defeated. 23 And the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, to exterminate and destroy [them]; and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, they helped to destroy one another. 24 So when Juda came to the watch tower of the wilderness, and looked and took a view of the multitude, behold they all lay dead on the ground. Not one had escaped. 25 Jehoshaphat and his troops came to take the loot. They found among them a lot of goods, clothes, and valuables. They found more than they could carry. They spent three days collecting the loot. 26 And on the fourth day, they assembled in the Valley of Berakah, for there they blessed the LORD. Therefore the name of that place is called the Valley of Berakah up to this day. 27 Then returned all the men of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat at their head, to return to Jerusalem with joy; for the Lord had caused them to rejoice over their enemies. 28 They proceeded directly to the LORD's temple, carrying lyres, harps, and trumpets. 29 The fear of God was on all the kingdoms of the countries, when they heard that the LORD fought against the enemies of Israel. 30 So the kingdom of Jehoshaphat was quiet, for the Lord gave him rest on every side. 31 And Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah: he was thirty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem; and his mother`s name was Azubah, daughter of Shilhi. 32 And he walked in the way of his father Asa and did not turn aside from it, to do what was right in the eyes of the LORD. 33 Only, the high places were not removed, and the people still had not settled their hearts for the God of their fathers. 34 Everything else about Jehoshaphat from first to last is written in the records of Jehu, son of Hanani, which is included in the Book of the Kings of Israel. 35 After this, Jehoshaphat king of Judah joined himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, who did very wickedly. 36 He joined with him to build ships to go to Tarshish. And they built the ships in Ezion Geber. 37 Then Eliezer, the son of Dodavah of Mareshah, prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, Because thou hast joined thyself with Ahaziah, the LORD shall destroy thy works. And the ships were broken, and they were not able to go to Tarshish.
