Thomson(i) 2 God hath not utterly rejected his people whom he heretofore acknowledged. Do you not know by Elias what the scripture saith? When he is pleading with God against Israel, saying, 3 "Lord, they have slain thy prophets and demolished thine altars; and I alone am left, and they seek my life." 4 What doth the divine oracle say to him? "I have reserved for myself seven thousand men who have not bowed a knee to Baal." 5 In like manner, therefore, at this present time there is a remnant according to a choice of favour. 6 Now if it be by favour, it is no more in consideration of works, since in this case the favour be no favour: but if it be in consideration of works it is no more of favour, otherwise the work is no work.
