Matthew(i)
Let euery soule submit him selfe vnto the authoritie of the hygher powers. For there is no power but of God.
The powers that be are ordeyned of God. Whosoeuer therfore resisteth power, resisteth the ordinaunce of GOD. And they that resiste, shall receyue to them selfe damnacyon.
For rulars are not to be feared for good workes, but for euyll. Wylte thou be wyth oute feare of the power? Do well then: and so shalte thou be praysed of the same.
For he is the minister of GOD, for thy welth. But and yf thou do euyll, then feare: for he beareth not a swearde for noughte, but is the minister of God, to take vengeaunce on them that do euyll.
Wherfore ye muste nedes obeye, not for feare of vengeaunce onelye, but also because of conscience.
