Jeremiah 34:1-35:19 These are the wordes whiche the Lord spake vnto Ieremy, what tyme as Nabuchodonozor the kinge of Babylon, and all hys Hostes, (out of all the kyngedomes that were vnder hys power) and all his people, fought agaynste Ierusalem, and all the cytyes thereof.

Matthew⁽ⁱ⁾ ¹ These are the wordes whiche the Lord spake vnto Ieremy, what tyme as Nabuchodonozor the kinge of Babylon, and all hys Hostes, (out of all the kyngedomes that were vnder hys power) and all his people, fought agaynste Ierusalem, and all the cytyes thereof. ² Thus saieth the Lord God of Israel: Go, & speake to Zedekiah the kinge of Iuda, and tell him: The Lorde sendeth the this worde: Beholde, I wyll delyuer this cytie into the hande of the kinge of Babylon, he shal burne it, ³ and thou shalt not escape his handes, but shalt be led awaye presoner, and delyuered into hys power. Thou shalt loke the kinge of Babylon in the face, and he shal speake wt the mouth to mouth, & then shalt thou go to Babylon. ⁴ Yet heare the worde of the Lorde, O Zedekiah thou Kynge of Iuda. Thus sayeth the Lorde vnto the: Thou shalt not be slayne with the swerde, ⁵ but shalt dye in peace. Lyke as thy forefathers the kinges thy progenitours, were brente, so shalt thou be brent also, & in the mourninge they shall saye: Oh Lorde. For thus haue I determined sayeth the Lorde. ⁶ Then spake Ieremy the Prophet all these wordes vnto Zedekiah king of Iuda in Ierusalem: ⁷ what tyme as the kinge of Babylons hoste beseged Ierusalem, and the remnaunt of the cytyes: Namely, Lachis, and Azecah, whiche yet remayned of the stronge defensed cities of Iuda. ⁸ These are the wordes that the Lord spake vnto Ieremy the Prophete, when Zedekiah was agreed with al the people at Ierusalem, that there shoulde be proclamed a lyberte, ⁹ so that euery man shoulde let his seruaunt and handmayde go fre, Hebrue and Hebruesse, & no Iewe to holde his brother as a bond man. ¹⁰ Now as they had consented, euen so they were obedient, and let them go fre. ¹¹ But afterward they repented, & toke agayne the seruauntes and handemaydens, whome they had let go fre, and so made them bonde agayne. ¹² For the whiche cause the worde of the Lord came vnto Ieremy from the Lorde him selfe, saying. ¹³ Thus sayeth the Lorde God of Israell: I made a couenaunt with youre fathers when I brought them oute of Egypte, (that they shoulde no more be bondmen) sayinge: ¹⁴ When seuen yeares are oute, euery man shall let his bought seruaunte an Hebrue go fre, yf he haue serued him syxe yeares. But your fathers obeyed me not, and herkened not vnto me. ¹⁵ As for you, ye were now turned, & dyd ryght before me, in that ye proclamed, euery man to let his neyghboure go fre, & in that ye made a couenaunt before me, in the temple that beareth my name. ¹⁶ But yet ye haue turned your selues agayne, and blasphemed my name. In this, that euery man hath required hys seruaunte and handmayden againe whom ye had let go quite and fre, and compelled them to serue you agayne, and to be youre bondmen. ¹⁷ And therfore thus sayeth the lord: ye haue not obeyed me, euery man to proclame fredom vnto his brother and neighbour: wherfore I wil call you vnto a fredome, sayeth the Lorde, euen vnto the swerde, to the pestilence, & to honger, & will make you to be plaged in all the kingedomes of the earthe. ¹⁸ Yea those men that haue broken my couenaunt, and not kepte the wordes of the appoyntment, which they made before me: when they hewed the calfe in two, and when there wente thorowe the two halfes therof. ¹⁹ The Princes of Iuda, the Princes of Ierusalem, the gelded men, the priestes and all the people of the lande, whiche wente thorowe the two sides of the calfe. ²⁰ Those men will I geue into the power of their enemies, & into the handes of them that folowe vpon their lyues. And their dead bodies shalbe meate for the foules of the ayre, and beastes of the felde. ²¹ As for Zedekiah the Kynge of Iuda and his Princes, I wil delyuer them into the power of their enemies, and of them that desyre to slaye them, and into the hande of the kynge of Babylons hoste whyche now is departed from you. ²² But thorowe my commaundement (sayeth the Lord) they shall come again before this cytye, they shall fyght agaynste it, winne it, and burne it. Moreouer I wyll laye the cities of Iuda so wast, that no man shal dwell therin. ³⁵ ¹ The wordes, whiche the Lorde spake vnto Ieremy, in the raigne of Iehoakim the sonne of Iosiah Kynge of Iuda, are these: ² Go vnto the house of the Rechabites, and cal them out, and brynge them to the house of the Lorde into some commodyous place, and geue them wyne to dryncke. ³ Then toke I Iazaniah the sonne of Ieremye, the sonne of Habaziniah, and his brethren and all his sonnes, and the whole houshold of the Rechabytes, ⁴ and brought them to the house of the Lorde, into the closet of the chyldren of Hanan the sonne of Iegedaliah the man of God: which was by the closet of the Princes, that is aboue the closet of Maasiah the sonne of Selum, whiche is the chefe of the treasurye. ⁵ And before the sonnes of the kynred of the Rechabites, I set pottes full of wyne, and cuppes, and sayde vnto them: Dryncke wyne. ⁶ But they sayde: we dryncke no wyne, for Ionadab the sonne of Rechab oure father commaunded vs sayinge: yea and youre sonnes shall neuer dryncke wyne, buylde no houses, sowe no sede, plante no vynes, ⁷ yea ye shall haue no vyneyardes: but for all youre tyme ye shall dwel in tentes, that ye maye liue longe in the lande wherin ye be straungers. ⁸ Thus haue we obeyed the commaundement of Ionadab the sonne of Rechab oure father, in al that he hath charged vs, & so we dryncke no wine all oure lyue longe: we nor our wiues, oure sonnes and oure doughters. ⁹ Neyther buyld we any house to dwell therin we haue also amonge vs neither vyneyardes nor corne lande to sowe: ¹⁰ but we dwell in tentes, we obeye, and do accordynge vnto all, that Ionahab oure father commaunded vs. ¹¹ But now that Nabuchodonozor the Kyng of Babilon came vp into the lande, we sayde: come, let vs go to Ierusalem, that we maye escape the Hoste of the Caldees and the Assirians, and so we dwell nowe at Ierusalem. ¹² Then came the word of the lord vnto Ieremy sayenge: ¹³ Thus sayeth the Lorde of Hostes the God of Israel: Go and tell whole Iuda & al the enhabitours of Ierusalem: Wil ye not be refourmed, to obey my wordes? saieth the Lord. ¹⁴ The wordes which Ionadab the sonne of Rechab commaunded his sonnes, that they shoulde dryncke no wine, are fast and surely kepte: for vnto this day they drincke no wine, but obeye their fathers commaundemente. But as for me, I haue stand vp early, I haue spoken vnto you, and geuen you earnest warnynge, and yet haue ye not bene obedient vnto me. ¹⁵ Yea, I haue sent my seruauntes, al the prophetes vnto you, I rose vp early, and sent you worde, sayinge: O turne you, euery man from his wicked waye: amende your lyues, and go not after straunge Goddes, to worshyppe them, that ye may contynue in the land which I haue geuen vnto you & your fathers but ye would neither heare me, nor folow me. ¹⁶ The children of Ionadab Rachabs sonne haue stedfastly kepte their fathers commaundement, that he gaue them, but this people is not obedient vnto me. ¹⁷ And therfore thus saieth the Lorde of Hostes the God of Israell: Beholde I will brynge vpon Iuda and vpon euery one that dwelleth in Ierusalem, al the trouble that I haue deuysed agaynst them. For I haue spoken vnto them, but they woulde not folowe. I haue called vnto them, neuertheles they woulde geue me no answere. ¹⁸ Ieremye also spake vnto the housholde of the Rechabites: Thus sayeth the Lorde of Hostes the god of Israel: For so muche as ye haue obeyed the commaundement of Ionadab youre father, & kepte all his preceptes, and done accordynge vnto all that he hath bidden you: ¹⁹ Therefore thus sayeth the Lorde of Hostes, the God of Israell: Ionadab the sonne of Rechab shall not fayle, but haue one of his stocke, to stand alway before me.
