Ephesians 5:1-6:24

MSTC(i) 1 Be ye followers of God as dear children, 2 and walk in love even as Christ loved us, and gave himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice of a sweet savour to God. 3 So that fornication, and all uncleanness or covetousness, be not once named among you, as it becometh saints: 4 neither filthiness, neither foolish talking, neither jestings, which are not comely: but rather giving of thanks. 5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, either unclean person, or covetous person, which is the worshipper of images, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ, and of God. 6 Let no man deceive you with vain words. For through such things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of unbelief. 7 Be not, therefore, companions with them. 8 Ye were once darkness, but are now light in the Lord. Walk as children of light. 9 For the fruit of the spirit is, in all goodness, righteousness, and truth. 10 Accept that which is pleasing to the Lord, 11 and have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness: but rather rebuke them. 12 For it is shame even to name those things which are done of them in secret: 13 but all things, when they are rebuked of the light, are manifest. For whatsoever is manifest, that same is light. 14 Wherefore he saith, "Awake thou that sleepest, and stand up from death, and Christ shall give thee light." 15 Take heed therefore that ye walk circumspectly — not as fools, but as wise - 16 redeeming the time: for the days are evil. 17 Wherefore, be ye not unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess: but be fulfilled with the spirit, 19 speaking unto yourselves in psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord in your hearts, 20 giving thanks always for all things unto God the father, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ: 21 submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. 22 Women: submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. 23 For the husband is the wife's head, even as Christ is the head of the congregation, and the same is the saviour of the body. 24 Therefore as the congregation is in subjection to Christ, likewise let the wives be in subjection to their husbands in all things. 25 Husbands: love your wives, even as Christ loved the congregation, and gave himself for it, 26 to sanctify it, and cleansed it in the fountain of water through the word, 27 to make it unto himself a glorious congregation without spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing: but that it should be holy and without blame. 28 So ought men to love their wives, as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife, loveth himself. 29 For no man ever yet, hated his own flesh; but nourisheth, and cherisheth it: even as the Lord doth the congregation. 30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. 31 "For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall continue with his wife, and two shall be made one flesh." 32 This is a great secret, but I speak between Christ and the congregation. 33 Nevertheless, do ye so that every one of you love his wife truly even as himself: And let the wife see that she fear her husband. 6 1 Children, obey your fathers and mothers in the Lord: for so is it right. 2 "Honour thy father and mother," that is the first commandment that hath any promise, 3 "that thou mayst be in good estate, and live long on the earth." 4 And ye fathers, move not your children to wrath: but bring them up with the nurture and information of the Lord. 5 Servants, be obedient unto your carnal masters, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your hearts, as unto Christ: 6 not with service in the eyesight, as men-pleasers: but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart 7 with good will, even as though serving the Lord and not men. 8 And remember that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, that shall he receive again of the Lord, whether he be bond or free. 9 And ye masters, do even the same things unto them, putting away threatenings: and remember that even your master also is in heaven, neither is there any respect of person with him. 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the armour of God, that ye may stand steadfast against the crafty assaults of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood: but against rule, against power, and against worldly rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness for heavenly things. 13 For this cause, take unto you the armour of God, that ye may be able to resist in the evil day, and to stand perfect in all things. 14 Stand, therefore, and your loins gird about with verity, having on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and shod with shoes prepared by the gospel of peace. 16 Above all, take to you the shield of faith, wherewith ye may quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God, 18 and pray always with all manner prayer and supplication — and that in the spirit — and watch thereunto with all instance and supplication for all saints, 19 and for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to utter the secrets of the gospel, 20 whereof I am a messenger in bonds, that therein I may speak freely, as it becometh me to speak. 21 But that ye may also know that condition I am in, and what I do, Tychicus my dear brother and faithful minister in the Lord, shall show you of all things, 22 whom I sent unto you for the same purpose: that ye might know what case I stand in, and that he might comfort your hearts. 23 Peace be with the brethren, and love with faith from God the father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. 24 Grace be with all them which love our Lord Jesus Christ in pureness. Amen. {Sent from Rome unto the Ephesians by Tychicus.}
