Daniel 5

  1 H1113 Belshazzar H4430 the king H5648 made [H8754]   H7229 a great H3900 feast H506 to a thousand H7261 of his lords H8355 , and drank [H8750]   H2562 wine H6903 before H506 the thousand.

  2 H1113 Belshazzar H2942 , whiles he tasted H2562 the wine H560 , commanded [H8754]   H858 to bring [H8682]   H1722 the golden H3702 and silver H3984 vessels H2 which his father H5020 Nebuchadnezzar H5312 had taken [H8684]   H4481 out of H1965 the temple H3390 which was in Jerusalem H4430 ; that the king H7261 , and his princes H7695 , his wives H3904 , and his concubines H8355 , might drink [H8748]   therein.

  3 H116 Then H858 they brought [H8684]   H1722 the golden H3984 vessels H5312 that were taken [H8684]   H4481 out of H1965 the temple H1005 of the house H426 of God H3390 which was at Jerusalem H4430 ; and the king H7261 , and his princes H7695 , his wives H3904 , and his concubines H8355 , drank [H8754]   in them.

  4 H8355 They drank [H8754]   H2562 wine H7624 , and praised [H8745]   H426 the gods H1722 of gold H3702 , and of silver H5174 , of brass H6523 , of iron H636 , of wood H69 , and of stone.

  5 H8160 In the same hour H5312 came forth [H8754]   H677 fingers H606 of a man's H3028 hand H3790 , and wrote [H8751]   H6903 over against H5043 the candlestick H5922 upon H1528 the plaister H3797 of the wall H4430 of the king's H1965 palace H4430 : and the king H2370 saw [H8751]   H6447 the part H3028 of the hand H3790 that wrote [H8751]  .

  6 H116 Then H4430 the king's H2122 countenance H8133 was changed [H8754]   H7476 , and his thoughts H927 troubled [H8792]   H7001 him, so that the joints H2783 of his loins H8271 were loosed [H8723]   H755 , and his knees H5368 smote [H8750]   H1668 one H1668 against another.

  7 H4430 The king H7123 cried [H8748]   H2429 aloud H5954 to bring [H8682]   H826 in the astrologers H3779 , the Chaldeans H1505 , and the soothsayers [H8750]   H4430 . And the king H6032 spake [H8750]   H560 , and said [H8750]   H2445 to the wise H895 men of Babylon H606 , Whosoever H3606   H7123 shall read [H8751]   H1836 this H3792 writing H2324 , and shew [H8741]   H6591 me the interpretation H3848 thereof, shall be clothed [H8748]   H711 with scarlet H2002 , and have a chain H1722 of gold H5922 about H6676 his neck H8523 , and shall be the third H7981 ruler [H8748]   H4437 in the kingdom.

  8 H116 Then H5954 came [H8750]   H3606 in all H4430 the king's H2445 wise H3546 men : but they could [H8751]   H3809 not H7123 read [H8749]   H3792 the writing H3046 , nor make known [H8682]   H4430 to the king H6591 the interpretation thereof.

  9 H116 Then H4430 was king H1113 Belshazzar H7690 greatly H927 troubled [H8727]   H2122 , and his countenance H8133 was changed [H8750]   H5922 in him H7261 , and his lords H7672 were astonied [H8723]  .

  10 H4433 Now the queen H6903 , by reason H4406 of the words H4430 of the king H7261 and his lords H5954 , came [H8754]   H4961 into the banquet H1005 house H4433 : and the queen H6032 spake [H8754]   H560 and said [H8754]   H4430 , O king H2418 , live [H8747]   H5957 for ever H409 : let not H7476 thy thoughts H927 trouble [H8792]   H2122 thee, nor let thy countenance H8133 be changed [H8721]  :

  11 H383 There is H1400 a man H4437 in thy kingdom H7308 , in whom is the spirit H6922 of the holy H426 gods H3118 ; and in the days H2 of thy father H5094 light H7924 and understanding H2452 and wisdom H2452 , like the wisdom H426 of the gods H7912 , was found [H8728]   H4430 in him; whom the king H5020 Nebuchadnezzar H2 thy father H4430 , the king H2 , I say, thy father H6966 , made [H8684]   H7229 master H2749 of the magicians H826 , astrologers H3779 , Chaldeans H1505 , and soothsayers [H8750]  ;

  12 H6903 Forasmuch as H3606   H3493 an excellent H7308 spirit H4486 , and knowledge H7924 , and understanding H6590 , interpreting [H8743]   H2493 of dreams H263 , and shewing H280 of hard sentences H8271 , and dissolving [H8743]   H7001 of doubts H7912 , were found [H8728]   H1841 in the same Daniel H4430 , whom the king H7761 named [H8754]   H8036   H1096 Belteshazzar H3705 : now H1841 let Daniel H7123 be called [H8729]   H2324 , and he will shew [H8681]   H6591 the interpretation.

  13 H116 Then H1841 was Daniel H5954 brought in [H8717]   H6925 before H4430 the king H4430 . And the king H6032 spake [H8750]   H560 and said [H8750]   H1841 unto Daniel H607 , Art thou H1841 that Daniel H4481 , which art of H1123 the children H1547 of the captivity H3061 of Judah H4430 , whom the king H2 my father H858 brought [H8684]   H4481 out of H3061 Jewry?

  14 H8086 I have even heard [H8754]   H7308 of thee, that the spirit H426 of the gods H5922 is in thee H5094 , and that light H7924 and understanding H3493 and excellent H2452 wisdom H7912 is found [H8728]   in thee.

  15 H3705 And now H2445 the wise H826 men, the astrologers H5954 , have been brought [H8717]   H6925 in before H7123 me, that they should read [H8748]   H1836 this H3792 writing H3046 , and make known [H8682]   H6591 unto me the interpretation H3546 thereof: but they could [H8751]   H3809 not H2324 shew [H8682]   H6591 the interpretation H4406 of the thing:

  16 H576 And I H8086 have heard [H8754]   H5922 of thee H3202 , that thou canst [H8748]   H6590 make [H8749]   H6591 interpretations H8271 , and dissolve [H8749]   H7001 doubts H3705 : now H2006 if H3202 thou canst [H8748]   H7123 read [H8749]   H3792 the writing H3046 , and make known [H8682]   H6591 to me the interpretation H3848 thereof, thou shalt be clothed [H8748]   H711 with scarlet H2002 , and have a chain H1722 of gold H5922 about H6676 thy neck H8531 , and shalt be the third H7981 ruler [H8748]   H4437 in the kingdom.

  17 H116 Then H1841 Daniel H6032 answered [H8750]   H560 and said [H8750]   H6925 before H4430 the king H4978 , Let thy gifts H1934 be [H8748]   H3052 to thyself, and give [H8747]   H5023 thy rewards H321 to another H1297 ; yet H7123 I will read [H8748]   H3792 the writing H4430 unto the king H3046 , and make known [H8681]   H6591 to him the interpretation.

  18 H607 O thou H4430 king H5943 , the most high H426 God H3052 gave [H8754]   H5020 Nebuchadnezzar H2 thy father H4437 a kingdom H7238 , and majesty H3367 , and glory H1923 , and honour:

  19 H4481 And for H7238 the majesty H3052 that he gave [H8754]   H3606 him, all H5972 people H524 , nations H3961 , and languages H1934 , trembled [H8754]   H2112   H1763 and feared [H8751]   H4481 before H6925 him H1934 : whom he would [H8754]   H6634   [H8750]   H1934 he slew [H8754]   H6992   [H8751]   H1934 ; and whom he would [H8754]   H6634   [H8750]   H1934 he kept alive [H8754]   H2418   [H8683]   H1934 ; and whom he would [H8754]   H6634   [H8750]   H1934 he set up [H8754]   H7313   [H8683]   H1934 ; and whom he would [H8754]   H6634   [H8750]   H1934 he put down [H8754]   H8214   [H8683]  .

  20 H3825 But when his heart H7313 was lifted up [H8752]   H7308 , and his mind H8631 hardened [H8748]   H2103 in pride [H8682]   H5182 , he was deposed [H8717]   H4481 from H4437 his kingly H3764 throne H5709 , and they took [H8684]   H3367 his glory H4481 from him:

  21 H2957 And he was driven [H8752]   H4481 from H1123 the sons H606 of men H3825 ; and his heart H7739 was made [H8745]   H5974 like H2423 the beasts H4070 , and his dwelling H6167 was with the wild asses H2939 : they fed [H8748]   H6211 him with grass H8450 like oxen H1655 , and his body H6647 was wet [H8721]   H2920 with the dew H8065 of heaven H5705 ; till H3046 he knew [H8754]   H5943 that the most high H426 God H7990 ruled H4437 in the kingdom H606 of men H6966 , and that he appointeth [H8681]   H5922 over H4479 it whomsoever H6634 he will [H8748]  .

  22 H607 And thou H1247 his son H1113 , O Belshazzar H3809 , hast not H8214 humbled [H8684]   H3825 thine heart H6903 , though H3046 thou knewest [H8754]   H3606 all H1836 this;

  23 H7313 But hast lifted up [H8712]   H5922 thyself against H4756 the Lord H8065 of heaven H858 ; and they have brought [H8684]   H3984 the vessels H1005 of his house H6925 before H607 thee, and thou H7261 , and thy lords H7695 , thy wives H3904 , and thy concubines H8355 , have drunk [H8750]   H2562 wine H7624 in them; and thou hast praised [H8745]   H426 the gods H3702 of silver H1722 , and gold H5174 , of brass H6523 , iron H636 , wood H69 , and stone H2370 , which see [H8751]   H3809 not H3809 , nor H8086 hear [H8750]   H3809 , nor H3046 know [H8751]   H426 : and the God H3028 in whose hand H5396 thy breath H3606 is, and whose are all H735 thy ways H3809 , hast thou not H1922 glorified [H8745]  :

  24 H116 Then H6447 was the part H3028 of the hand H7972 sent [H8750]   H4481 from H6925 him H1836 ; and this H3792 writing H7560 was written [H8752]  .

  25 H1836 And this H3792 is the writing H7560 that was written [H8752]   H4484 , MENE [H8752]   H4484 , MENE [H8752]   H8625 , TEKEL [H8752]   H6537 , UPHARSIN [H8751]  .

  26 H1836 This H6591 is the interpretation H4406 of the thing H4484 : MENE [H8752]   H426 ; God H4483 hath numbered [H8754]   H4437 thy kingdom H8000 , and finished [H8684]   it.

  27 H8625 TEKEL [H8752]   H8625 ; Thou art weighed [H8760]   H3977 in the balances H7912 , and art found [H8728]   H2627 wanting.

  28 H6537 PERES [H8752]   H4437 ; Thy kingdom H6537 is divided [H8752]   H3052 , and given [H8753]   H4076 to the Medes H6540 and Persians.

  29 H116 Then H560 commanded [H8754]   H1113 Belshazzar H3848 , and they clothed [H8684]   H1841 Daniel H711 with scarlet H2002 , and put a chain H1722 of gold H5922 about H6676 his neck H3745 , and made a proclamation [H8684]   H5922 concerning H1934 him, that he should be [H8748]   H8531 the third H7990 ruler H4437 in the kingdom.

  30 H3916 In that night H1113 was Belshazzar H4430 the king H3779 of the Chaldeans H6992 slain [H8752]  .

  31 H1868 And Darius H4077 the Median H6902 took [H8745]   H4437 the kingdom H8361 , being about threescore H8648 and two H8140 years H1247 old.
