1 Samuel 5

  1 H6430 And the Philistines H3947 took [H8804]   H727 the ark H430 of God H935 , and brought [H8686]   H72 it from Ebenezer H795 unto Ashdod.

  2 H6430 When the Philistines H3947 took [H8799]   H727 the ark H430 of God H935 , they brought [H8686]   H1004 it into the house H1712 of Dagon H3322 , and set [H8686]   H681 it by H1712 Dagon.

  3 H796 And when they of Ashdod H7925 arose early [H8686]   H4283 on the morrow H1712 , behold, Dagon H5307 was fallen [H8802]   H6440 upon his face H776 to the earth H6440 before H727 the ark H3068 of the LORD H3947 . And they took [H8799]   H1712 Dagon H7725 , and set H4725 him in his place H7725 again [H8686]  .

  4 H7925 And when they arose early [H8686]   H4283 on the morrow H1242 morning H1712 , behold, Dagon H5307 was fallen [H8802]   H6440 upon his face H776 to the ground H6440 before H727 the ark H3068 of the LORD H7218 ; and the head H1712 of Dagon H8147 and both H3709 the palms H3027 of his hands H3772 were cut off [H8803]   H4670 upon the threshold H1712 ; only the stump of Dagon H7604 was left [H8738]   to him.

  5 H3548 Therefore neither the priests H1712 of Dagon H935 , nor any that come [H8802]   H1712 into Dagon's H1004 house H1869 , tread [H8799]   H4670 on the threshold H1712 of Dagon H795 in Ashdod H3117 unto this day.

  6 H3027 But the hand H3068 of the LORD H3513 was heavy [H8799]   H796 upon them of Ashdod H8074 , and he destroyed [H8686]   H5221 them, and smote [H8686]   H2914 them with emerods [H8675]   H6076   H795 , even Ashdod H1366 and the coasts thereof.

  7 H582 And when the men H795 of Ashdod H7200 saw [H8799]   H559 that it was so, they said [H8804]   H727 , The ark H430 of the God H3478 of Israel H3427 shall not abide [H8799]   H3027 with us: for his hand H7185 is sore [H8804]   H1712 upon us, and upon Dagon H430 our god.

  8 H7971 They sent [H8799]   H622 therefore and gathered [H8799]   H5633 all the lords H6430 of the Philistines H559 unto them, and said [H8799]   H6213 , What shall we do [H8799]   H727 with the ark H430 of the God H3478 of Israel H559 ? And they answered [H8799]   H727 , Let the ark H430 of the God H3478 of Israel H5437 be carried about [H8735]   H1661 unto Gath H5437 . And they carried H727 the ark H430 of the God H3478 of Israel H5437 about [H8686]   thither .

  9 H310 And it was so, that, after H5437 they had carried it about [H8689]   H3027 , the hand H3068 of the LORD H5892 was against the city H3966 with a very H1419 great H4103 destruction H5221 : and he smote [H8686]   H582 the men H5892 of the city H6996 , both small H1419 and great H2914 , and they had emerods [H8675]   H6076   H8368 in their secret parts [H8735]  .

  10 H7971 Therefore they sent [H8762]   H727 the ark H430 of God H6138 to Ekron H727 . And it came to pass, as the ark H430 of God H935 came [H8800]   H6138 to Ekron H6139 , that the Ekronites H2199 cried out [H8799]   H559 , saying [H8800]   H5437 , They have brought about [H8689]   H727 the ark H430 of the God H3478 of Israel H4191 to us, to slay [H8687]   H5971 us and our people.

  11 H7971 So they sent [H8799]   H622 and gathered together [H8799]   H5633 all the lords H6430 of the Philistines H559 , and said [H8799]   H7971 , Send away [H8761]   H727 the ark H430 of the God H3478 of Israel H7725 , and let it go again [H8799]   H4725 to his own place H4191 , that it slay [H8686]   H5971 us not, and our people H4194 : for there was a deadly H4103 destruction H5892 throughout all the city H3027 ; the hand H430 of God H3966 was very H3513 heavy [H8804]   there.

  12 H582 And the men H4191 that died [H8804]   H5221 not were smitten [H8717]   H2914 with the emerods [H8675]   H6076   H7775 : and the cry H5892 of the city H5927 went up [H8799]   H8064 to heaven.
