1 Kings 8 Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel , and all the heads of the tribes , the chief of the fathers of the children of Israel , unto king Solomon in Jerusalem , that they might bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the city of David , which is Zion.

2 H376 And all the men H3478 of Israel H6950 assembled [H8735] H4428 themselves unto king H8010 Solomon H2282 at the feast H3391 in the month H388 Ethanim H7637 , which is the seventh H2320 month.

3 H2205 And all the elders H3478 of Israel H935 came [H8799] H3548 , and the priests H5375 took up [H8799] H727 the ark.

4 H5927 And they brought up [H8686] H727 the ark H3068 of the LORD H168 , and the tabernacle H4150 of the congregation H6944 , and all the holy H3627 vessels H168 that were in the tabernacle H3548 , even those did the priests H3881 and the Levites H5927 bring up [H8686] .

5 H4428 And king H8010 Solomon H5712 , and all the congregation H3478 of Israel H3259 , that were assembled [H8737] H6440 unto him, were with him before H727 the ark H2076 , sacrificing [H8764] H6629 sheep H1241 and oxen H5608 , that could not be told [H8735] H4487 nor numbered [H8735] H7230 for multitude.

6 H3548 And the priests H935 brought in [H8686] H727 the ark H1285 of the covenant H3068 of the LORD H4725 unto his place H1687 , into the oracle H1004 of the house H6944 , to the most H6944 holy H3671 place, even under the wings H3742 of the cherubims.

7 H3742 For the cherubims H6566 spread forth [H8802] H3671 their two wings H4725 over the place H727 of the ark H3742 , and the cherubims H5526 covered [H8799] H727 the ark H905 and the staves H4605 thereof above.

8 H748 And they drew out [H8686] H905 the staves H7218 , that the ends H905 of the staves H7200 were seen out [H8735] H6944 in the holy H6440 place before H1687 the oracle H7200 , and they were not seen [H8735] H2351 without H3117 : and there they are unto this day.

9 H727 There was nothing in the ark H7535 save H8147 the two H3871 tables H68 of stone H4872 , which Moses H3240 put [H8689] H2722 there at Horeb H3068 , when the LORD H3772 made [H8804] H1121 a covenant with the children H3478 of Israel H3318 , when they came out [H8800] H776 of the land H4714 of Egypt.

10 H3548 And it came to pass, when the priests H3318 were come out [H8800] H6944 of the holy H6051 place, that the cloud H4390 filled [H8804] H1004 the house H3068 of the LORD,

11 H3548 So that the priests H3201 could [H8804] H5975 not stand [H8800] H8334 to minister [H8763] H6440 because H6051 of the cloud H3519 : for the glory H3068 of the LORD H4390 had filled [H8804] H1004 the house H3068 of the LORD.

12 H559 Then spake [H8804] H8010 Solomon H3068 , The LORD H559 said [H8804] H7931 that he would dwell [H8800] H6205 in the thick darkness.

13 H1129 I have surely [H8800] H1129 built [H8804] H1004 thee an house H2073 to dwell in H4349 , a settled place H3427 for thee to abide in [H8800] H5769 for ever.

14 H4428 And the king H5437 turned H6440 his face H5437 about [H8686] H1288 , and blessed [H8762] H6951 all the congregation H3478 of Israel H6951 : (and all the congregation H3478 of Israel H5975 stood [H8802] ;)

15 H559 And he said [H8799] H1288 , Blessed [H8803] H3068 be the LORD H430 God H3478 of Israel H1696 , which spake [H8765] H6310 with his mouth H1732 unto David H1 my father H3027 , and hath with his hand H4390 fulfilled [H8765] H559 it, saying [H8800] ,

16 H3117 Since the day H3318 that I brought forth [H8689] H5971 my people H3478 Israel H4714 out of Egypt H977 , I chose [H8804] H5892 no city H7626 out of all the tribes H3478 of Israel H1129 to build [H8800] H1004 an house H8034 , that my name H977 might be therein; but I chose [H8799] H1732 David H5971 to be over my people H3478 Israel.

17 H3824 And it was in the heart H1732 of David H1 my father H1129 to build [H8800] H1004 an house H8034 for the name H3068 of the LORD H430 God H3478 of Israel.

18 H3068 And the LORD H559 said [H8799] H1732 unto David H1 my father H3282 , Whereas H834 H3824 it was in thine heart H1129 to build [H8800] H1004 an house H8034 unto my name H2895 , thou didst well [H8689] H3824 that it was in thine heart.

19 H7535 Nevertheless H1129 thou shalt not build [H8799] H1004 the house H1121 ; but thy son H3318 that shall come forth out [H8802] H2504 of thy loins H1129 , he shall build [H8799] H1004 the house H8034 unto my name.

20 H3068 And the LORD H6965 hath performed [H8686] H1697 his word H1696 that he spake [H8765] H6965 , and I am risen up [H8799] H1732 in the room of David H1 my father H3427 , and sit [H8799] H3678 on the throne H3478 of Israel H3068 , as the LORD H1696 promised [H8765] H1129 , and have built [H8799] H1004 an house H8034 for the name H3068 of the LORD H430 God H3478 of Israel.

21 H7760 And I have set [H8799] H4725 there a place H727 for the ark H1285 , wherein is the covenant H3068 of the LORD H3772 , which he made [H8804] H1 with our fathers H3318 , when he brought them out [H8687] H776 of the land H4714 of Egypt.

22 H8010 And Solomon H5975 stood [H8799] H6440 before H4196 the altar H3068 of the LORD H5048 in the presence of H6951 all the congregation H3478 of Israel H6566 , and spread forth [H8799] H3709 his hands H8064 toward heaven:

23 H559 And he said [H8799] H3068 , LORD H430 God H3478 of Israel H430 , there is no God H8064 like thee, in heaven H4605 above H776 , or on earth H8104 beneath, who keepest [H8802] H1285 covenant H2617 and mercy H5650 with thy servants H1980 that walk [H8802] H6440 before H3820 thee with all their heart:

24 H8104 Who hast kept [H8804] H5650 with thy servant H1732 David H1 my father H1696 that thou promisedst [H8765] H1696 him: thou spakest [H8762] H6310 also with thy mouth H4390 , and hast fulfilled [H8765] H3027 it with thine hand H3117 , as it is this day.

25 H3068 Therefore now, LORD H430 God H3478 of Israel H8104 , keep [H8798] H5650 with thy servant H1732 David H1 my father H1696 that thou promisedst [H8765] H559 him, saying [H8800] H3772 , There shall not fail [H8735] H376 thee a man H6440 in my sight H3427 to sit [H8802] H3678 on the throne H3478 of Israel H7535 ; so H1121 that thy children H8104 take heed [H8799] H1870 to their way H3212 , that they walk [H8800] H6440 before H1980 me as thou hast walked [H8804] H6440 before me.

26 H430 And now, O God H3478 of Israel H1697 , let thy word H539 , I pray thee, be verified [H8735] H1696 , which thou spakest [H8765] H5650 unto thy servant H1732 David H1 my father.

27 H430 But will God H552 indeed H3427 dwell [H8799] H776 on the earth H8064 ? behold, the heaven H8064 and heaven H8064 of heavens H3557 cannot contain [H8770] H637 thee; how much less H1004 this house H1129 that I have builded [H8804] ?

28 H6437 Yet have thou respect [H8804] H8605 unto the prayer H5650 of thy servant H8467 , and to his supplication H3068 , O LORD H430 my God H8085 , to hearken [H8800] H7440 unto the cry H8605 and to the prayer H5650 , which thy servant H6419 prayeth [H8693] H6440 before H3117 thee to day:

29 H5869 That thine eyes H6605 may be open [H8803] H1004 toward this house H3915 night H3117 and day H4725 , even toward the place H559 of which thou hast said [H8804] H8034 , My name H8085 shall be there: that thou mayest hearken [H8800] H8605 unto the prayer H5650 which thy servant H6419 shall make [H8691] H4725 toward this place.

30 H8085 And hearken [H8804] H8467 thou to the supplication H5650 of thy servant H5971 , and of thy people H3478 Israel H6419 , when they shall pray [H8691] H4725 toward this place H8085 : and hear [H8799] H8064 thou in heaven H3427 thy dwelling [H8800] H4725 place H8085 : and when thou hearest [H8804] H5545 , forgive [H8804] .

31 H376 If any man H2398 trespass [H8799] H7453 against his neighbour H423 , and an oath H5375 be laid [H8804] H422 upon him to cause him to swear [H8687] H423 , and the oath H935 come [H8804] H6440 before H4196 thine altar H1004 in this house:

32 H8085 Then hear [H8799] H8064 thou in heaven H6213 , and do [H8804] H8199 , and judge [H8804] H5650 thy servants H7561 , condemning [H8687] H7563 the wicked H5414 , to bring [H8800] H1870 his way H7218 upon his head H6663 ; and justifying [H8687] H6662 the righteous H5414 , to give [H8800] H6666 him according to his righteousness.

33 H5971 When thy people H3478 Israel H5062 be smitten down [H8736] H6440 before H341 the enemy [H8802] H2398 , because they have sinned [H8799] H7725 against thee, and shall turn again [H8804] H3034 to thee, and confess [H8689] H8034 thy name H6419 , and pray [H8694] H2603 , and make supplication [H8694] H1004 unto thee in this house:

34 H8085 Then hear [H8799] H8064 thou in heaven H5545 , and forgive [H8804] H2403 the sin H5971 of thy people H3478 Israel H7725 , and bring them again [H8689] H127 unto the land H5414 which thou gavest [H8804] H1 unto their fathers.

35 H8064 When heaven H6113 is shut up [H8736] H4306 , and there is no rain H2398 , because they have sinned [H8799] H6419 against thee; if they pray [H8694] H4725 toward this place H3034 , and confess [H8689] H8034 thy name H7725 , and turn [H8799] H2403 from their sin H6031 , when thou afflictest [H8686] them:

36 H8085 Then hear [H8799] H8064 thou in heaven H5545 , and forgive [H8804] H2403 the sin H5650 of thy servants H5971 , and of thy people H3478 Israel H3384 , that thou teach [H8686] H2896 them the good H1870 way H3212 wherein they should walk [H8799] H5414 , and give [H8804] H4306 rain H776 upon thy land H5414 , which thou hast given [H8804] H5971 to thy people H5159 for an inheritance.

37 H776 If there be in the land H7458 famine H1698 , if there be pestilence H7711 , blasting H3420 , mildew H697 , locust H2625 , or if there be caterpiller H341 ; if their enemy [H8802] H6887 besiege [H8686] H776 them in the land H8179 of their cities H5061 ; whatsoever plague H4245 , whatsoever sickness there be;

38 H8605 What prayer H8467 and supplication H120 soever be made by any man H5971 , or by all thy people H3478 Israel H3045 , which shall know [H8799] H376 every man H5061 the plague H3824 of his own heart H6566 , and spread forth [H8804] H3709 his hands H1004 toward this house:

39 H8085 Then hear [H8799] H8064 thou in heaven H3427 thy dwelling [H8800] H4349 place H5545 , and forgive [H8804] H6213 , and do [H8804] H5414 , and give [H8804] H376 to every man H1870 according to his ways H3824 , whose heart H3045 thou knowest [H8799] H3045 ; (for thou, even thou only, knowest [H8804] H3824 the hearts H1121 of all the children H120 of men;)

40 H3372 That they may fear [H8799] H3117 thee all the days H2416 that they live H6440 in H127 the land H5414 which thou gavest [H8804] H1 unto our fathers.

41 H5237 Moreover concerning a stranger H5971 , that is not of thy people H3478 Israel H935 , but cometh out [H8804] H7350 of a far H776 country H4616 for H8034 thy name's sake;

42 H8085 (For they shall hear [H8799] H1419 of thy great H8034 name H2389 , and of thy strong H3027 hand H5186 , and of thy stretched out [H8803] H2220 arm H935 ;) when he shall come [H8804] H6419 and pray [H8694] H1004 toward this house;

43 H8085 Hear [H8799] H8064 thou in heaven H3427 thy dwelling [H8800] H4349 place H6213 , and do [H8804] H5237 according to all that the stranger H7121 calleth [H8799] H5971 to thee for: that all people H776 of the earth H3045 may know [H8799] H8034 thy name H3372 , to fear [H8800] H5971 thee, as do thy people H3478 Israel H3045 ; and that they may know [H8800] H1004 that this house H1129 , which I have builded [H8804] H7121 , is called [H8738] H8034 by thy name.

44 H5971 If thy people H3318 go out [H8799] H4421 to battle H341 against their enemy [H8802] H1870 , whithersoever H7971 thou shalt send [H8799] H6419 them, and shall pray [H8694] H3068 unto the LORD H1870 toward H5892 the city H977 which thou hast chosen [H8804] H1004 , and toward the house H1129 that I have built [H8804] H8034 for thy name:

45 H8085 Then hear [H8804] H8064 thou in heaven H8605 their prayer H8467 and their supplication H6213 , and maintain [H8804] H4941 their cause.

46 H2398 If they sin [H8799] H120 against thee, (for there is no man H2398 that sinneth [H8799] H599 not,) and thou be angry [H8804] H5414 with them, and deliver [H8804] H341 them to the enemy [H8802] H7617 , so that they carry them away [H8804] H7617 captives [H8802] H6440 unto H776 the land H341 of the enemy [H8802] H7350 , far H7138 or near;

47 H7725 Yet if they shall bethink [H8689] H776 themselves in the land H7617 whither they were carried captives [H8738] H7725 , and repent [H8804] H3820 H2603 , and make supplication [H8694] H776 unto thee in the land H7617 of them that carried them captives [H8802] H559 , saying [H8800] H2398 , We have sinned [H8804] H5753 , and have done perversely [H8689] H7561 , we have committed wickedness [H8804] ;

48 H7725 And so return [H8804] H3824 unto thee with all their heart H5315 , and with all their soul H776 , in the land H341 of their enemies [H8802] H7617 , which led them away captive [H8804] H6419 , and pray [H8694] H1870 unto thee toward H776 their land H5414 , which thou gavest [H8804] H1 unto their fathers H5892 , the city H977 which thou hast chosen [H8804] H1004 , and the house H1129 which I have built [H8804] H8034 for thy name:

49 H8085 Then hear [H8804] H8605 thou their prayer H8467 and their supplication H8064 in heaven H3427 thy dwelling [H8800] H4349 place H6213 , and maintain [H8804] H4941 their cause,

50 H5545 And forgive [H8804] H5971 thy people H2398 that have sinned [H8804] H6588 against thee, and all their transgressions H6586 wherein they have transgressed [H8804] H5414 against thee, and give [H8804] H7356 them compassion H6440 before H7617 them who carried them captive [H8802] H7355 , that they may have compassion [H8765] on them:

51 H5971 For they be thy people H5159 , and thine inheritance H3318 , which thou broughtest forth [H8689] H4714 out of Egypt H8432 , from the midst H3564 of the furnace H1270 of iron:

52 H5869 That thine eyes H6605 may be open [H8803] H8467 unto the supplication H5650 of thy servant H8467 , and unto the supplication H5971 of thy people H3478 Israel H8085 , to hearken [H8800] H7121 unto them in all that they call [H8800] for unto thee.

53 H914 For thou didst separate [H8689] H5971 them from among all the people H776 of the earth H5159 , to be thine inheritance H1696 , as thou spakest [H8765] H3027 by the hand H4872 of Moses H5650 thy servant H3318 , when thou broughtest [H8687] H1 our fathers H4714 out of Egypt H136 , O Lord H3069 GOD.

54 H8010 And it was so, that when Solomon H3615 had made an end [H8763] H6419 of praying [H8692] H8605 all this prayer H8467 and supplication H3068 unto the LORD H6965 , he arose [H8804] H6440 from before H4196 the altar H3068 of the LORD H3766 , from kneeling [H8800] H1290 on his knees H3709 with his hands H6566 spread up [H8803] H8064 to heaven.

55 H5975 And he stood [H8799] H1288 , and blessed [H8762] H6951 all the congregation H3478 of Israel H1419 with a loud H6963 voice H559 , saying [H8800] ,

56 H1288 Blessed [H8803] H3068 be the LORD H5414 , that hath given [H8804] H4496 rest H5971 unto his people H3478 Israel H1696 , according to all that he promised [H8765] H5307 : there hath not failed [H8804] H259 one H1697 word H2896 of all his good H1697 promise H1696 , which he promised [H8765] H3027 by the hand H4872 of Moses H5650 his servant.

57 H3068 The LORD H430 our God H1 be with us, as he was with our fathers H5800 : let him not leave [H8799] H5203 us, nor forsake [H8799] us:

58 H5186 That he may incline [H8687] H3824 our hearts H3212 unto him, to walk [H8800] H1870 in all his ways H8104 , and to keep [H8800] H4687 his commandments H2706 , and his statutes H4941 , and his judgments H6680 , which he commanded [H8765] H1 our fathers.

59 H1697 And let these my words H2603 , wherewith I have made supplication [H8694] H6440 before H3068 the LORD H7138 , be nigh H3068 unto the LORD H430 our God H3119 day H3915 and night H6213 , that he maintain [H8800] H4941 the cause H5650 of his servant H4941 , and the cause H5971 of his people H3478 Israel H3117 at all times H3117 H1697 , as the matter shall require:

60 H5971 That all the people H776 of the earth H3045 may know [H8800] H3068 that the LORD H430 is God, and that there is none else.

61 H3824 Let your heart H8003 therefore be perfect H3068 with the LORD H430 our God H3212 , to walk [H8800] H2706 in his statutes H8104 , and to keep [H8800] H4687 his commandments H3117 , as at this day.

62 H4428 And the king H3478 , and all Israel H2076 with him, offered [H8802] H2077 sacrifice H6440 before H3068 the LORD.

63 H8010 And Solomon H2076 offered [H8799] H2077 a sacrifice H8002 of peace offerings H2076 , which he offered [H8804] H3068 unto the LORD H8147 , two H6242 and twenty H505 thousand H1241 oxen H3967 , and an hundred H6242 and twenty H505 thousand H6629 sheep H4428 . So the king H1121 and all the children H3478 of Israel H2596 dedicated [H8799] H1004 the house H3068 of the LORD.

64 H3117 The same day H4428 did the king H6942 hallow [H8765] H8432 the middle H2691 of the court H6440 that was before H1004 the house H3068 of the LORD H6213 : for there he offered [H8804] H5930 burnt offerings H4503 , and meat offerings H2459 , and the fat H8002 of the peace offerings H5178 : because the brasen H4196 altar H6440 that was before H3068 the LORD H6996 was too little H3557 to receive [H8687] H5930 the burnt offerings H4503 , and meat offerings H2459 , and the fat H8002 of the peace offerings.

65 H6256 And at that time H8010 Solomon H6213 held [H8799] H2282 a feast H3478 , and all Israel H1419 with him, a great H6951 congregation H935 , from the entering [H8800] H2574 in of Hamath H5158 unto the river H4714 of Egypt H6440 , before H3068 the LORD H430 our God H7651 , seven H3117 days H7651 and seven H3117 days H702 , even fourteen H6240 H3117 days.

66 H8066 On the eighth H3117 day H7971 he sent H5971 the people H7971 away [H8765] H1288 : and they blessed [H8762] H4428 the king H3212 , and went [H8799] H168 unto their tents H8056 joyful H2896 and glad H3820 of heart H2896 for all the goodness H3068 that the LORD H6213 had done [H8804] H1732 for David H5650 his servant H3478 , and for Israel H5971 his people.
