Nehemiah 6 ויהי Now it came to pass, כאשׁר when נשׁמע heard לסנבלט Sanballat, וטוביה and Tobiah, ולגשׁם and Geshem הערבי the Arabian, וליתר and the rest איבינו of our enemies, כי that בניתי I had built את החומה the wall, ולא and there was no נותר left בה פרץ breach גם therein; (though עד at העת time ההיא that דלתות the doors לא I had not העמדתי set up בשׁערים׃ upon the gates;)

1 H1961 ויהי Now it came to pass, H834 כאשׁר when H8085 נשׁמע heard H5571 לסנבלט Sanballat, H2900 וטוביה and Tobiah, H1654 ולגשׁם and Geshem H6163 הערבי the Arabian, H3499 וליתר and the rest H341 איבינו of our enemies, H3588 כי that H1129 בניתי I had built H853 את H2346 החומה the wall, H3808 ולא and there was no H3498 נותר left H6556 בה פרץ breach H1571 גם therein; (though H5704 עד at H6256 העת time H1931 ההיא that H1817 דלתות the doors H3808 לא I had not H5975 העמדתי set up H8179 בשׁערים׃ upon the gates;)

2 H7971 וישׁלח sent H5571 סנבלט That Sanballat H1654 וגשׁם and Geshem H413 אלי unto H559 לאמר me, saying, H1980 לכה Come, H3259 ונועדה let us meet H3162 יחדו together H3715 בכפירים in the villages H1237 בבקעת in the plain H207 אונו of Ono. H1992 והמה But they H2803 חשׁבים thought H6213 לעשׂות to do H7451 לי רעה׃ me mischief.

3 H7971 ואשׁלחה And I sent H5921 עליהם unto H4397 מלאכים messengers H559 לאמר them, saying, H4399 מלאכה work, H1419 גדולה a great H589 אני I H6213 עשׂה doing H3808 ולא H3201 אוכל H3381 לרדת come down: H4100 למה why H7673 תשׁבת cease, H4399 המלאכה should the work H834 כאשׁר whilst H7503 ארפה I leave H3381 וירדתי it, and come down H413 אליכם׃ to

4 H7971 וישׁלחו Yet they sent H413 אלי unto H1697 כדבר sort; H2088 הזה after this H702 ארבע me four H6471 פעמים times H7725 ואשׁיב and I answered H853 אותם H1697 כדבר manner. H2088 הזה׃ them after the same

5 H7971 וישׁלח Then sent H413 אלי unto H5571 סנבלט Sanballat H1697 כדבר manner H2088 הזה me in like H6471 פעם time H2549 חמישׁית the fifth H853 את H5288 נערו his servant H107 ואגרת letter H6605 פתוחה with an open H3027 בידו׃ in his hand;

6 H3789 כתוב Wherein written, H1471 בה בגוים among the heathen, H8085 נשׁמע It is reported H1654 וגשׁמו and Gashmu H559 אמר saith H859 אתה thou H3064 והיהודים and the Jews H2803 חשׁבים think H4775 למרוד to rebel: H5921 על for H3651 כן which cause H859 אתה thou H1129 בונה buildest H2346 החומה the wall, H859 ואתה that thou H1933 הוה mayest be H4428 להם למלך their king, H1697 כדברים words. H428 האלה׃ according to these

7 H1571 וגם And thou hast also H5030 נביאים prophets H5975 העמדת appointed H7121 לקרא to preach H5921 עליך of H3389 בירושׁלם thee at Jerusalem, H559 לאמר saying, H4428 מלך a king H3063 ביהודה in Judah: H6258 ועתה and now H8085 ישׁמע shall it be reported H4428 למלך to the king H1697 כדברים words. H428 האלה according to these H6258 ועתה now H1980 לכה Come H3289 ונועצה therefore, and let us take counsel H3162 יחדו׃ together.

8 H7971 ואשׁלחה Then I sent H413 אליו unto H559 לאמר him, saying, H3808 לא no H1961 נהיה There are H1697 כדברים things H428 האלה such H834 אשׁר done as H859 אתה thou H559 אומר sayest, H3588 כי but H3820 מלבך them out of thine own heart. H859 אתה thou H908 בודאם׃ feignest

9 H3588 כי For H3605 כלם they all H3372 מיראים H853 אותנו H559 לאמר saying, H7503 ירפו shall be weakened H3027 ידיהם Their hands H4480 מן from H4399 המלאכה the work, H3808 ולא that it be not H6213 תעשׂה done. H6258 ועתה Now H2388 חזק therefore, strengthen H853 את H3027 ידי׃ my hands.

10 H589 ואני Afterward I H935 באתי came H1004 בית unto the house H8098 שׁמעיה of Shemaiah H1121 בן the son H1806 דליה of Delaiah H1121 בן the son H4105 מהיטבאל of Mehetabeel, H1931 והוא who H6113 עצור shut up; H559 ויאמר and he said, H3259 נועד Let us meet together H413 אל in H1004 בית the house H430 האלהים of God, H413 אל within H8432 תוך within H1964 ההיכל the temple, H5462 ונסגרה and let us shut H1817 דלתות the doors H1964 ההיכל of the temple: H3588 כי for H935 באים they will come H2026 להרגך to slay H3915 ולילה thee; yea, in the night H935 באים will they come H2026 להרגך׃ to slay

11 H559 ואמרה And I said, H376 האישׁ H3644 כמוני as I H1272 יברח flee? H4310 ומי and who H3644 כמוני H834 אשׁר that, H935 יבוא would go H413 אל into H1964 ההיכל the temple H2425 וחי to save his life? H3808 לא I will not H935 אבוא׃ go in.

12 H5234 ואכירה I perceived H2009 והנה And, lo, H3808 לא had not H430 אלהים that God H7971 שׁלחו sent H3588 כי him; but H5016 הנבואה this prophecy H1696 דבר that he pronounced H5921 עלי against H2900 וטוביה me: for Tobiah H5571 וסנבלט and Sanballat H7936 שׂכרו׃ had hired

13 H4616 למען Therefore H7936 שׂכור hired, H1931 הוא he H4616 למען that H3372 אירא I should be afraid, H6213 ואעשׂה and do H3651 כן so, H2398 וחטאתי and sin, H1961 והיה and they might have H1992 להם H8034 לשׁם report, H7451 רע for an evil H4616 למען that H2778 יחרפוני׃ they might reproach

14 H2142 זכרה think H430 אלהי My God, H2900 לטוביה thou upon Tobiah H5571 ולסנבלט and Sanballat H4639 כמעשׂיו their works, H428 אלה according to these H1571 וגם and H5129 לנועדיה Noadiah, H5031 הנביאה on the prophetess H3499 וליתר and the rest H5030 הנביאים of the prophets, H834 אשׁר that H1961 היו would have H3372 מיראים put me in fear. H853 אותי׃

15 H7999 ותשׁלם was finished H2346 החומה So the wall H6242 בעשׂרים in the twenty H2568 וחמשׁה and fifth H435 לאלול of Elul, H2572 לחמשׁים in fifty H8147 ושׁנים and two H3117 יום׃ days.

16 H1961 ויהי And it came to pass, H834 כאשׁר that when H8085 שׁמעו heard H3605 כל all H341 אויבינו our enemies H7200 ויראו us saw H3605 כל and all H1471 הגוים the heathen H834 אשׁר that H5439 סביבתינו about H5307 ויפלו cast down H3966 מאד they were much H5869 בעיניהם in their own eyes: H3045 וידעו for they perceived H3588 כי that H854 מאת of H430 אלהינו our God. H6213 נעשׂתה was wrought H4399 המלאכה work H2063 הזאת׃ this

17 H1571 גם Moreover H3117 בימים days H1992 ההם in those H7235 מרבים many H2715 חרי the nobles H3063 יהודה of Judah H107 אגרתיהם letters H1980 הולכות sent H5921 על unto H2900 טוביה Tobiah, H834 ואשׁר H2900 לטוביה and of Tobiah H935 באות came H413 אליהם׃ unto

18 H3588 כי For H7227 רבים many H3063 ביהודה in Judah H1167 בעלי sworn H7621 שׁבועה sworn H3588 לו כי unto him, because H2860 חתן the son in law H1931 הוא he H7935 לשׁכניה of Shechaniah H1121 בן the son H733 ארח of Arah; H3076 ויהוחנן Johanan H1121 בנו and his son H3947 לקח had taken H853 את H1323 בת the daughter H4918 משׁלם of Meshullam H1121 בן the son H1296 ברכיה׃ of Berechiah.

19 H1571 גם Also H2896 טובתיו his good deeds H1961 היו they reported H559 אמרים they reported H6440 לפני before H1697 ודברי my words H1961 היו me, and uttered H3318 מוציאים me, and uttered H107 לו אגרות letters H7971 שׁלח sent H2900 טוביה to him. Tobiah H3372 ליראני׃ to put me in fear.
