John 19:24-37

Haweis(i) 24 They said therefore one to another, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, "They parted my garments among them, and for my vest they cast lots." So the soldiers therefore did these things. 25 Now beside the cross of Jesus stood his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus then beheld his mother, and the disciple whom he loved, standing by, he saith to his mother, Woman, behold thy son! 27 Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour the disciple took her unto his own home. 28 After this, Jesus, conscious that all things were now finished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. 29 Now there was placed a vessel full of vinegar: they then filling a spunge with the vinegar, and putting it on a stick of hyssop, carried it to his mouth. 30 When therefore Jesus had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and inclining his head, he surrendered up his spirit. 31 The Jews therefore, as it was the preparation, that the bodies might not remain on the cross on the sabbath, (for that sabbath-day was a great day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. 32 Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other who was crucified with him. 33 But when they came to Jesus, as they saw that he was already dead, they brake not his legs: 34 but one of the soldiers with his lance pierced his side, and immediately there gushed out blood and water. 35 And he that saw it bore witness, and we know that his testimony is true: and he himself is conscious that he speaketh what is true, that ye might believe. 36 Now these things were done, that the scripture might be fulfilled, "A bone of him shall not be broken." 37 And again another scripture saith, "They shall look on him whom they have pierced."
