DAVID SAVES QEILAH
And they tell David, saying, Behold, the Peleshethiy fight Qeilah; and they plunder the threshingfloors. 2 And David asks Yah Veh, saying, Go I and smite these Peleshethiy? And Yah Veh says to David, Go and smite the Peleshethiy and save Qeilah. 3 And the men of David say to him, Behold, we awe here in Yah Hudah! How much more, if we come to Qeilah against the ranks of the Peleshethiy? 4 And David adds again to ask Yah Veh: and Yah Veh answers him and says, Rise! Descend to Qeilah! For I give the Peleshethiy into your hand. 5 So David and his men go to Qeilah and fight the Peleshethiy and drive their chattel and smite them with a great stroke: thus David saves the settlers of Qeilah. 6
SHAUL PURSUES DAVID
And so be it, Abi Athar the son of Achiy Melech flees to David to Qeilah, and he descends with an ephod in his hand: 7 and they tell Shaul that David comes to Qeilah. And Shaul says, Elohim recognizes him into my hand; for he shut himself in by entering a city with doors and bars. 8 And Shaul hearkens all the people to war to descend to Qeilah to besiege David and his men. 9 And David knows Shaul plots evil against him; and he says to Abi Athar the priest, Bring near the ephod. 10 And David says, O Yah Veh Elohim of Yisra El, In hearing, your servant hears that Shaul seeks to come to Qeilah to ruin the city for my sake: 11 The masters of Qeilah, shut they me into his hand? Descends Shaul, as your servant hears? O Yah Veh Elohim of Yisra El, I beseech you, tell your servant. And Yah Veh says, He descends. 12 Then David says, The masters of Qeilah, shut they me and my men into the hand of Shaul? And Yah Veh says, They shut you. 13 Then David and his men - about six hundred men rise and go from Qeilah: and in walking, they walk. And they tell Shaul that David escapes from Qeilah; and he ceases to go: 14 and David settles in the wilderness in huntholds and settles in a mountain in the wilderness of Ziph; and Shaul seeks him every day but Elohim gives him not into his hand: 15 and David sees that Shaul goes to seek his soul: and David is in the wilderness of Ziph in a forest: 16 and Yah Nathan, the son of Shaul rises and goes to David into the forest and strengthens his hand in Elohim. 17 And he says to him, Awe not: for the hand of Shaul my father finds you not; and you reign over Yisra El and I become second to you; as Shaul my father also knows. 18 And the two cut a covenant at the face of Yah Veh: and David settles in the forest and Yah Nathan goes to his house. 19 And the Ziphiy ascend to Shaul to Gibah, saying, Is not David hiding himself with us in huntholds in the forest in the hill of Hachilah on the right of Yeshimon? 20 Now, O sovereign, descend - according as all your soul yearns to descend; and our part is to shut him into the hand of the sovereign. 21 And Shaul says, Blessed - you of Yah Veh; for you compassion me. 22 Go, I beseech you, prepare yet, and know and see his place where his foot is. Who saw him there? For someone says to me, in strategizing, he strategizes: 23 and see and know all the refuges where he hides himself; and return to me prepared; and I go with you: and so be it, if he is in the land, I search him out throughout all the thousands of Yah Hudah. 24 And they rise and come from the face of Shaul to Ziph: and David and his men are in the wilderness of Maon in the plain at the right of Yeshimon. 25 And Shaul and his men go to seek him: and they tell David: so he descends into a rock and settles in the wilderness of Maon. And Shaul hears, and pursues after David in the wilderness of Maon: 26 and Shaul goes on this side of the mountain and David and his men on that side of the mountain: and David hastens to go from the face of Shaul; for Shaul and his men surround David and his men to apprehend them. 27 And an angel comes to Shaul, saying, Hasten and come! For the Peleshethiy strip the land. 28 And Shaul returns from pursuing David and goes to meet the Peleshethiy: so they call that place Sela Ham Machleqoth/The Rock of Allotments. 29 And David ascends from there and settles in huntholds at En Gedi.
