1 Chronicles 19

ECB(i) 1
And so be it, after this, Nachash the sovereign of the sons of Ammon dies and his son reigns in his stead. 2 And David says, I work mercy to Hanun the son of Nachash because his father worked mercy to me. And David sends angels to sigh over him concerning his father: and the servants of David come into the land of the sons of Ammon to Hanun to sigh over him. 3 And the governors of the sons of Ammon say to Hanun, In your eyes, honors David your father, by sending to sigh over you? Come not his servants to you to probe and to overturn and to spy out the land? 4 And Hanun takes the servants of David and shaves them and cuts off their garments in the middle to the crotch and sends them away: 5 and some go and tell David concerning the men: and he sends to meet them for the men are mighty shamed. And the sovereign says, Settle at Yericho until your beards sprout and return. 6 And the sons of Ammon see they make themselves a stink to David, and Hanun and the sons of Ammon send a thousand rounds of silver to hire chariots and cavalry from Aram Naharaim and from Aram Maachah and from Sobah: 7 and they hire thirty-two thousand chariots and the sovereign of Maachah and his people - who come and encamp at the face of Medeba: and the sons of Ammon gather from their cities and come to war. 8
And David hears, and he sends Yah Ab and all the host of the mighty: 9 and the sons of Ammon go and line up for war in front of the portal of the city: and the sovereigns come by themselves in the field. 10 And Yah Ab sees that the face of the war is set against him at his face and behind; and he chooses from all the chosen of Yisra El and lines them up to meet the Aramiy: 11 and the rest of the people he gives to the hand of Abi Shai his brother and they line up to meet the sons of Ammon. 12 And he says, If the Aramiy are too strong for me, then you become my salvation: but if the sons of Ammon are too strong for you, then I save you. 13 Strengthen! Toughen! - for our people and for the cities of our Elohim: O that Yah Veh work good in his eyes. 14 And Yah Ab and the people with him draw near the face of the Aramiy to the war; and they flee from his face: 15 and the sons of Ammon see the Aramiy flee, and they likewise flee the face of Abi Shai his brother and enter the city: and Yah Ab comes to Yeru Shalem. 16 And the Aramiy see they are smitten at the face of Yisra El; and they send angels and bring the Aramiy from beyond the river: and Shophach the governor of the host of Hadar Ezer comes at their face. 17 And they tell David; and he gathers all Yisra El and passes over Yarden and comes on them and lines up against them: and David lines up for war to meet the Aramiy and they fight with him: 18 and the Aramiy flee the face of Yisra El: and David slaughters of the Aramiy seven thousand in chariots and forty thousand footmen and deathifies Shophach the governor of the host. 19 And the servants of Hadar Ezer see they are smitten at the face of Yisra El; and they shalam with David and become his servants: and the Aramiy will no more to save the sons of Ammon.
