CLV⁽ⁱ⁾ ¹⁵ John is testifying concerning Him and has cried, saying, "This was He of Whom I said, 'He Who is coming after me, has come to be in front of me,' for He was first, before me, ¹⁶ for of that which fills Him we all obtained, and grace for grace." ¹⁷ For the law through Moses was given; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. ¹⁸ God no one has ever seen. The only-begotten God, Who is in the bosom of the Father, He unfolds Him." ¹⁹ And this is the testimony of John when the Jews of Jerusalem dispatch to him priests and Levites that they should be inquiring of him, "Who are you? ²⁰ And he avows and denies not and avows that "I am not the Christ." ²¹ And they ask him again, "What are you then? Are you Elijah?And he is saying, "I am not." ²² Are you the Prophet?And he answered, "No.They said, then, to him, "Who are you? - that we may be giving an answer to those who send us. What are you saying concerning yourself? ²³ He averred, "I am 'the voice of one imploring, "In the wilderness straighten the road of the Lord!"' according as said Isaiah the prophet." ²⁴ And those who have been dispatched were of the Pharisees. ²⁵ And they ask him and said to him, "Why, then, are you baptizing, if you are not the Christ, neither Elijah, nor the Prophet? ²⁶ John answered them, saying, "I am baptizing in water. Now in the midst of you One stood of Whom you are not aware." ²⁷ He it is Who, coming after me, has come to be in front of me, of Whom I am not worthy that I should be loosing the thong of His sandal." ²⁸ These things occurred in Bethany, the other side of the Jordan river, where John was, baptizing." ²⁹ On the morrow he is observing Jesus coming toward him, and is saying, "Lo! the Lamb of God Which is taking away the sin of the world!" ³⁰ This is He concerning Whom I said, 'After me is coming a Man Who has come to be in front of me,' for He was First, before me." ³¹ And I was not aware of Him. But that He may be manifested to Israel, therefore came I, baptizing in water." ³² And John testifies, saying that "I have gazed upon the spirit, descending as a dove out of heaven, and it remains on Him." ³³ And I was not aware of Him, but He Who sends me to be baptizing in water, That One said to me, 'On Whomever you may be perceiving the spirit descending and remaining on Him, This is He Who is baptizing in holy spirit.'" ³⁴ And I have seen and have testified that This One is the Son of God." ³⁵ On the morrow John again stood, and two of his disciples." ³⁶ And, looking at Jesus walking, he is saying, "Lo! the Lamb of God!"
