  1 H4428 And it came to pass, when all the kings H5676 which were on this side H3383 Jordan, H2022 in the hills, H8219 and in the valleys, H2348 and in all the coasts H1419 of the great H3220 sea H4136 over against H3844 Lebanon, H2850 the Hittite, H567 and the Amorite, H3669 the Canaanite, H6522 the Perizzite, H2340 the Hivite, H2983 and the Jebusite, H8085 heard there;
  2 H6908 That they gathered H3162 themselves together, H3898 to fight H3091 with Joshua H3478 and with Israel, H259 with one H6310 accord.
  3 H3427 And when the inhabitants H1391 of Gibeon H8085 heard H3091 what Joshua H6213 had done H3405 unto Jericho H5857 and to Ai,
  4 H6213 They did work H6195 trickery, H3212 and went H6737 and made as if they had been ambassadors, H3947 and took H1087 old H8242 sacks H2543 upon their donkeys, H3196 and wine H4997 bottles, H1087 old, H1234 and tore, H6887 and bound up;
  5 H1087 And old H5275 shoes H2921 and patched H7272 upon their feet, H1087 and old H8008 garments H3899 upon them; and all the bread H6718 of their provision H3001 was dry H5350 and moldy.
  6 H3212 And they went H3091 to Joshua H4264 unto the camp H1537 at Gilgal, H559 and said H376 unto him, and to the men H3478 of Israel, H935 We be come H7350 from a far H776 country: H3772 now therefore make H1285 you a covenant with us.
  7 H376 And the men H3478 of Israel H559 said H2340 unto the Hivites, H194 Perhaps H3427 you live H7130 among H3772 us; and how shall we make H1285 a covenant with you?
  8 H559 And they said H3091 unto Joshua, H5650 We are your servants. H3091 And Joshua H559 said H370 unto them, Who are you and from from where H935 come you
  9 H559 And they said H3966 unto him, From a very H7350 far H776 country H5650 your servants H935 are come H8034 because of the name H3068 of the Lord H430 your God: H8085 for we have heard H8089 the fame H6213 of him, and all that he did H4714 in Egypt,
  10 H6213 And all that he did H8147 to the two H4428 kings H567 of the Amorites, H5676 that were beyond H3383 Jordan, H5511 to Sihon H4428 king H2809 of Heshbon, H5747 and to Og H4428 king H1316 of Bashan, H6252 which was at Ashtaroth.
  11 H2205 Why our elders H3427 and all the inhabitants H776 of our country H559 spoke H559 to us, saying, H3947 Take H6720 food H3027 with you H1870 for the journey, H3212 and go H7125 to meet H559 them, and say H5650 unto them, We are your servants: H3772 therefore now make H1285 you a covenant with us.
  12 H3899 This our bread H2525 we took hot H6679 for our provision H1004 out of our houses H3117 on the day H3318 we came forth H3212 to go H3001 unto you; but now, behold, it is dry, H5350 and it is moldy:
  13 H4997 And these bottles H3196 of wine, H4390 which we filled, H2319 were new; H1234 and, behold, they are torn: H8008 and these our garments H5275 and our shoes H1086 are become old H3966 by reason of the very H7230 long H1870 journey.
  14 H582 And the men H3947 took H6718 of their food, H7592 and asked H6310 not counsel at the mouth H3068 of the Lord.
  15 H3091 And Joshua H6213 made H7965 peace H3772 with them, and made H1285 a covenant H2421 with them, to let them live: H5387 and the princes H5712 of the congregation H7650 swore unto them.
  16 H7097 And it came to pass at the end H7969 of three H3117 days H310 after H3772 they had made H1285 a covenant H8085 with them, that they heard H7138 that they were their neighbours, H3427 and that they lived H7130 among them.
  17 H1121 And the sons H3478 of Israel H5265 journeyed, H935 and came H5892 unto their cities H7992 on the third H3117 day. H5892 Now their cities H1391 were Gibeon, H3716 and Chephirah, H881 and Beeroth, H7157 and Kirjath–jearim.
  18 H1121 And the sons H3478 of Israel H5221 struck H5387 them not, because the princes H5712 of the congregation H7650 had sworn H3068 unto them by the Lord H430 God H3478 of Israel. H5712 And all the congregation H3885 murmured H5387 against the princes.
  19 H5387 But all the princes H559 said H5712 unto all the congregation, H7650 We have sworn H3068 unto them by the Lord H430 God H3478 of Israel: H3201 now therefore we may H5060 not touch them.
  20 H6213 This we will do H2421 to them; we will even let them live, H7110 lest wrath H7621 be upon us, because of the oath H7650 which we swore unto them.
  21 H5387 And the princes H559 said H2421 unto them, Let them live; H2404 but let them be hewers H6086 of wood H7579 and drawers H4325 of water H5712 unto all the congregation; H5387 as the princes H1696 had promised them.
  22 H3091 And Joshua H7121 called H1696 for them, and he spoke H559 unto them, saying, H7411 Why have you deceived H559 us, saying, H3966 We are very H7350 far H3427 from you; when you live H7130 among us?
  23 H779 Now therefore you are cursed, H3772 and there shall none of you be freed H5650 from being bondmen, H2404 and hewers H6086 of wood H7579 and drawers H4325 of water H1004 for the house H430 of my God.
  24 H6030 And they answered H3091 Joshua, H559 and said, H5046 Because it was certainly H5046 told H5650 your servants, H3068 how that the Lord H430 your God H6680 commanded H5650 his servant H4872 Moses H5414 to give H776 you all the land, H8045 and to destroy H3427 all the inhabitants H776 of the land H6440 from before H3966 you, therefore we were very H3372 afraid H5315 for our lives H6440 because H6213 of you, and have done H1697 this thing.
  25 H2009 And now, behold, we H3027 are in your hand: H5869 as it seems H2896 good H3477 and right H6213 unto you to do H6213 unto us, do.
  26 H6213 And so did H5337 he unto them, and delivered H3027 them out of the hand H1121 of the sons H3478 of Israel, H2026 that they killed them not.
  27 H3091 And Joshua H5414 made H3117 them that day H2404 hewers H6086 of wood H7579 and drawers H4325 of water H5712 for the congregation, H4196 and for the altar H3068 of the Lord, H3117 even unto this day, H4725 in the place H977 which he should choose.
