Mark 6:17-27

BIB(i) 17 Αὐτὸς (Himself) γὰρ (for) ὁ (-) Ἡρῴδης (Herod), ἀποστείλας (having sent), ἐκράτησεν (seized) τὸν (-) Ἰωάννην (John) καὶ (and) ἔδησεν (bound) αὐτὸν (him) ἐν (in) φυλακῇ (prison), διὰ (on account of) Ἡρῳδιάδα (Herodias), τὴν (the) γυναῖκα (wife) Φιλίππου (of Philip) τοῦ (the) ἀδελφοῦ (brother) αὐτοῦ (of him), ὅτι (because) αὐτὴν (her) ἐγάμησεν (he had married). 18 ἔλεγεν (Had been saying) γὰρ (for) ὁ (-) Ἰωάννης (John) τῷ (-) Ἡρῴδῃ (to Herod) ὅτι (-), “Οὐκ (Not) ἔξεστίν (it is lawful) σοι (for you) ἔχειν (to have) τὴν (the) γυναῖκα (wife) τοῦ (of the) ἀδελφοῦ (brother) σου (of you).” 19 Ἡ (-) δὲ (And) Ἡρῳδιὰς (Herodias) ἐνεῖχεν (held it) αὐτῷ (against him), καὶ (and) ἤθελεν (wished) αὐτὸν (him) ἀποκτεῖναι (to kill), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἠδύνατο (was able); 20 ὁ (-) γὰρ (for) Ἡρῴδης (Herod) ἐφοβεῖτο (was afraid of) τὸν (-) Ἰωάννην (John), εἰδὼς (knowing) αὐτὸν (him) ἄνδρα (to be a man) δίκαιον (righteous) καὶ (and) ἅγιον (holy); καὶ (and) συνετήρει (he kept safe) αὐτόν (him). καὶ (And) ἀκούσας (having heard) αὐτοῦ (him), πολλὰ (greatly) ἠπόρει (he was perplexed) καὶ (and) ἡδέως (gladly) αὐτοῦ (him) ἤκουεν (heard). 21 Καὶ (And) γενομένης (having come) ἡμέρας (a day) εὐκαίρου (opportune), ὅτε (when) Ἡρῴδης (Herod) τοῖς (on the) γενεσίοις (birthday) αὐτοῦ (of him) δεῖπνον (a banquet) ἐποίησεν (made) τοῖς (to the) μεγιστᾶσιν (great men) αὐτοῦ (of him), καὶ (and) τοῖς (to the) χιλιάρχοις (chief captains), καὶ (and) τοῖς (to the) πρώτοις (leading men) τῆς (-) Γαλιλαίας (of Galilee), 22 καὶ (and) εἰσελθούσης (having come in) τῆς (the) θυγατρὸς (daughter) αὐτῆς (of herself) τῆς (-) Ἡρῳδιάδος (Herodias), καὶ (and) ὀρχησαμένης (having danced), ἤρεσεν (pleased) τῷ (-) Ἡρῴδῃ (Herod) καὶ (and) τοῖς (those) συνανακειμένοις (reclining with him). «ὁ (-) 〈δὲ〉 (And) βασιλεὺς» (the king) εἶπεν (said) τῷ (to the) κορασίῳ (girl), “Αἴτησόν (Ask) με (me) ὃ (whatever) ἐὰν (if) θέλῃς (you wish), καὶ (and) δώσω (I will give) σοι (to you).” 23 καὶ (And) ὤμοσεν (he swore) αὐτῇ (to her), “[Πολλά] (Whatever) Ὅ¦τι (that) ἐάν (if) με (me) αἰτήσῃς (you might ask), δώσω (I will give) σοι (you), ἕως (up to) ἡμίσους (half) τῆς (of the) βασιλείας (kingdom) μου (of me).” 24 Καὶ (And) ἐξελθοῦσα (having gone out), εἶπεν (she said) τῇ (to the) μητρὶ (mother) αὐτῆς (of her), “Τί (What) αἰτήσωμαι (shall I ask)?” Ἡ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπεν (she said), “Τὴν (The) κεφαλὴν (head) Ἰωάννου (of John) τοῦ (the one) Βαπτίζοντος (baptizing).” 25 Καὶ (And) εἰσελθοῦσα (having entered) εὐθὺς (immediately) μετὰ (with) σπουδῆς (haste) πρὸς (to) τὸν (the) βασιλέα (king), ᾐτήσατο (she asked), λέγουσα (saying), “Θέλω (I desire) ἵνα (that) ἐξαυτῆς (at once) δῷς (you give) μοι (to me) ἐπὶ (upon) πίνακι (a platter) τὴν (the) κεφαλὴν (head) Ἰωάννου (of John) τοῦ (the) Βαπτιστοῦ (Baptist).” 26 Καὶ (And) περίλυπος (encompassingly sorrowful) γενόμενος (having been made) ὁ (the) βασιλεὺς (king), διὰ (on account of) τοὺς (the) ὅρκους (oaths) καὶ (and) τοὺς (those) ἀνακειμένους (reclining with him), οὐκ (not) ἠθέλησεν (was he willing) ἀθετῆσαι (to refuse) αὐτήν (her). 27 καὶ (And) εὐθὺς (immediately) ἀποστείλας (having sent) ὁ (the) βασιλεὺς (king) σπεκουλάτορα (an executioner), ἐπέταξεν (he commanded) ἐνέγκαι (to be brought) τὴν (the) κεφαλὴν (head) αὐτοῦ (of him). καὶ (And) ἀπελθὼν (having gone), ἀπεκεφάλισεν (he beheaded) αὐτὸν (him) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) φυλακῇ (prison),
