BIB(i) 1 Ἐγένοντο (There were) δὲ (however) καὶ (also) ψευδοπροφῆται (false prophets) ἐν (among) τῷ (the) λαῷ (people), ὡς (as) καὶ (also) ἐν (among) ὑμῖν (you) ἔσονται (there will be) ψευδοδιδάσκαλοι (false teachers), οἵτινες (who) παρεισάξουσιν (will stealthily introduce) αἱρέσεις (heresies) ἀπωλείας (destructive), καὶ (even) τὸν (the) ἀγοράσαντα (having bought) αὐτοὺς (them) δεσπότην (Master) ἀρνούμενοι (denying), ἐπάγοντες (bringing upon) ἑαυτοῖς (themselves) ταχινὴν (swift) ἀπώλειαν (destruction). 2 καὶ (And) πολλοὶ (many) ἐξακολουθήσουσιν (will follow after) αὐτῶν (their) ταῖς (-) ἀσελγείαις (sensuality), δι’ (through) οὓς (whom) ἡ (the) ὁδὸς (way) τῆς (of the) ἀληθείας (truth) βλασφημηθήσεται (will be maligned). 3 καὶ (And) ἐν (through) πλεονεξίᾳ (covetousness) πλαστοῖς (with fabricated) λόγοις (words) ὑμᾶς (you) ἐμπορεύσονται (they will exploit), οἷς (for whom) τὸ (the) κρίμα (judgment) ἔκπαλαι (of long ago) οὐκ (not) ἀργεῖ (is idle), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) ἀπώλεια (destruction) αὐτῶν (of them) οὐ (not) νυστάζει (slumbers). 4 Εἰ (If) γὰρ (for) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἀγγέλων (the angels) ἁμαρτησάντων (having sinned), οὐκ (not) ἐφείσατο (spared), ἀλλὰ (but) σειραῖς* (in chains) ζόφου (of gloomy darkness) ταρταρώσας (having cast them down to Tartarus), παρέδωκεν (delivered them), εἰς (for) κρίσιν (judgment) τηρουμένους (being kept); 5 καὶ (and) ἀρχαίου (the ancient) κόσμου (world) οὐκ (not) ἐφείσατο (He spared), ἀλλὰ (but) ὄγδοον (one of eight), Νῶε (Noah) δικαιοσύνης (of righteousness) κήρυκα (a herald) ἐφύλαξεν (preserved), κατακλυσμὸν (the flood upon) κόσμῳ (the world) ἀσεβῶν (of the ungodly) ἐπάξας (having brought in); 6 καὶ (and) πόλεις (the cities) Σοδόμων (of Sodom) καὶ (and) Γομόρρας (Gomorrah) τεφρώσας (having reduced to ashes), καταστροφῇ (to destruction) κατέκρινεν (He condemned them), ὑπόδειγμα (an example) μελλόντων (of what is coming on) ‹ἀσεβέσιν› (the ungodly) τεθεικώς (having set); 7 καὶ (and) δίκαιον (righteous) Λὼτ (Lot), καταπονούμενον (being distressed) ὑπὸ (by) τῆς (the) τῶν (of the) ἀθέσμων (lawless) ἐν (in) ἀσελγείᾳ (sensuality) ἀναστροφῆς (conduct), ἐρρύσατο (He rescued) — 8 βλέμματι (through seeing) γὰρ (for) καὶ (and) ἀκοῇ (hearing) ὁ (that) δίκαιος (righteous man), ἐνκατοικῶν (dwelling) ἐν (among) αὐτοῖς (them) ἡμέραν (day) ἐξ (after) ἡμέρας (day), ψυχὴν (in his soul) δικαίαν (righteous) ἀνόμοις (with their lawless) ἔργοις (deeds) ἐβασάνιζεν (was tormented) — 9 οἶδεν (then knows) Κύριος (the Lord) εὐσεβεῖς (the devout) ἐκ (out of) πειρασμοῦ (temptation) ῥύεσθαι (to deliver); ἀδίκους (the unrighteous) δὲ (then) εἰς (unto) ἡμέραν (the day) κρίσεως (of judgment) κολαζομένους (being punished) τηρεῖν (to keep); 10 μάλιστα (especially) δὲ (then) τοὺς (those) ὀπίσω (after) σαρκὸς (the flesh) ἐν (in) ἐπιθυμίᾳ (the passion) μιασμοῦ (of defilement) πορευομένους (walking) καὶ (and) κυριότητος (authority) καταφρονοῦντας (despising). τολμηταὶ (Bold), αὐθάδεις (self-willed), δόξας (glorious ones) οὐ (not) τρέμουσιν (they tremble) βλασφημοῦντες (blaspheming), 11 ὅπου (whereas) ἄγγελοι (angels), ἰσχύϊ (in strength) καὶ (and) δυνάμει (power) μείζονες (greater) ὄντες (being), οὐ (not) φέρουσιν (do bring) κατ’ (against) αὐτῶν (them) παρὰ (before) Κυρίῳ (the Lord) βλάσφημον (a reviling) κρίσιν (judgment). 12 Οὗτοι (These) δέ (however), ὡς (like) ἄλογα (irrational) ζῷα (animals), γεγεννημένα (having been born) φυσικὰ (as creatures of instinct) εἰς (for) ἅλωσιν (capture) καὶ (and) φθοράν (destruction), ἐν (in) οἷς (what) ἀγνοοῦσιν (they are ignorant of), βλασφημοῦντες (blaspheming), ἐν (in) τῇ (the) φθορᾷ (destruction) αὐτῶν (of them) καὶ (also) φθαρήσονται (will be destroyed), 13 ἀδικούμενοι (suffering wrong) μισθὸν (as the wage) ἀδικίας (of unrighteousness); ἡδονὴν (as pleasure) ἡγούμενοι (esteeming) τὴν (-) ἐν (in) ἡμέρᾳ (daytime) τρυφήν (carousal); σπίλοι (blots) καὶ (and) μῶμοι (blemishes), ἐντρυφῶντες (reveling) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) ἀπάταις (deceptions) αὐτῶν (of them), συνευωχούμενοι (feasting with) ὑμῖν (you); 14 ὀφθαλμοὺς (eyes) ἔχοντες (having) μεστοὺς (full) μοιχαλίδος (of adultery), καὶ (and) ἀκαταπαύστους (unceasing) ἁμαρτίας (from sin), δελεάζοντες (enticing) ψυχὰς (souls) ἀστηρίκτους (unestablished); καρδίαν (a heart) γεγυμνασμένην (having been exercised) πλεονεξίας (in craving) ἔχοντες (having)— κατάρας (of a curse) τέκνα (children)! 15 Καταλιπόντες (Having left) εὐθεῖαν (the straight) ὁδὸν (way), ἐπλανήθησαν (they have gone astray), ἐξακολουθήσαντες (having followed) τῇ (in the) ὁδῷ (way) τοῦ (-) Βαλαὰμ (of Balaam) τοῦ (-) Βοσὸρ* (son of Bosor), ὃς (who) μισθὸν (the wage) ἀδικίας (of unrighteousness) ἠγάπησεν (loved); 16 ἔλεγξιν (reproof) δὲ (however) ἔσχεν (he had) ἰδίας (for his own) παρανομίας (transgression) ὑποζύγιον (by a donkey) ἄφωνον (mute); ἐν (in) ἀνθρώπου (a man’s) φωνῇ (voice) φθεγξάμενον (having spoken), ἐκώλυσεν (it restrained) τὴν (the) τοῦ (of the) προφήτου (prophet) παραφρονίαν (madness). 17 Οὗτοί (These) εἰσιν (are) πηγαὶ (springs) ἄνυδροι (without water) καὶ (and) ὁμίχλαι (mists) ὑπὸ (by) λαίλαπος (storm) ἐλαυνόμεναι (being driven), οἷς (for whom) ὁ (-) ζόφος (gloom) τοῦ (-) σκότους (of darkness) τετήρηται (has been reserved). 18 ὑπέρογκα (Arrogant) γὰρ (for) ματαιότητος (of vanity) φθεγγόμενοι (speaking words), δελεάζουσιν (they entice) ἐν (with) ἐπιθυμίαις (the passions) σαρκὸς (of the flesh) ἀσελγείαις (to sensuality) τοὺς (those) ὀλίγως (barely) ἀποφεύγοντας (escaping) τοὺς (from those) ἐν (in) πλάνῃ (error) ἀναστρεφομένους (living), 19 ἐλευθερίαν (freedom) αὐτοῖς (them) ἐπαγγελλόμενοι (promising), αὐτοὶ (themselves) δοῦλοι (slaves) ὑπάρχοντες (being) τῆς (-) φθορᾶς (of corruption). ᾧ (By what) γάρ (for) τις (anyone) ἥττηται (has been subdued), τούτῳ (by that) ‹καὶ› (also) δεδούλωται (he is enslaved). 20 Εἰ (If) γὰρ (for) ἀποφυγόντες (having escaped) τὰ (the) μιάσματα (pollutions) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world) ἐν (through) ἐπιγνώσει (the knowledge) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) καὶ (and) Σωτῆρος (Savior) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), τούτοις (in these) δὲ (now) πάλιν (again) ἐμπλακέντες (having been entangled) ἡττῶνται (they are subdued), γέγονεν (has become) αὐτοῖς (to them) τὰ (the) ἔσχατα (last state) χείρονα (worse) τῶν (than the) πρώτων (first). 21 κρεῖττον (Better) γὰρ (for) ἦν (it would have been) αὐτοῖς (for them) μὴ (not) ἐπεγνωκέναι (to have known) τὴν (the) ὁδὸν (way) τῆς (-) δικαιοσύνης (of righteousness), ἢ (than) ἐπιγνοῦσιν (having known it), ὑποστρέψαι (to have turned) ἐκ (from) τῆς (the) παραδοθείσης (having been delivered) αὐτοῖς (to them) ἁγίας (holy) ἐντολῆς (commandment). 22 συμβέβηκεν (Has happened) αὐτοῖς (to them) τὸ (the thing) τῆς (of the) ἀληθοῦς (true) παροιμίας (proverb): “Κύων (A dog) ἐπιστρέψας (having returned) ἐπὶ (to) τὸ (its) ἴδιον (own) ἐξέραμα (vomit),” καί (and), “Ὗς (A sow) λουσαμένη (having washed), εἰς (to her) κυλισμὸν (rolling place) βορβόρου (in the mire).”
