Nehemiah 1 The words of Nehemiah the son of Hachaliah. And it came to pass in the month Chisleu, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the palace,

1 H1697 The words H5166 of Nehemiah H1121 the son H2446 of Hachaliah. H1961 And it came H2320 to pass in the month H3691 Chisleu, H6242 in the twentieth H8141 year, H7800 as I was in Shushan H1002 the palace,

2 H2607 That Hanani, H259 one H251 of my brothers, H935 came, H582 he and certain men H3063 of Judah; H7592 and I asked H5921 them concerning H3064 the Jews H6413 that had escaped, H834 which H7604 were left H7628 of the captivity, H5921 and concerning H3389 Jerusalem.

3 H559 And they said H7604 to me, The remnant H7604 that are left H7628 of the captivity H8033 there H4082 in the province H1419 are in great H7451 affliction H2781 and reproach: H2346 the wall H3389 of Jerusalem H6555 also is broken H8179 down, and the gates H3341 thereof are burned H784 with fire.

4 H1961 And it came H8085 to pass, when I heard H428 these H1697 words, H3427 that I sat H1058 down and wept, H56 and mourned H3117 certain days, H6684 and fasted, H6419 and prayed H6440 before H430 the God H8064 of heaven,

5 H559 And said, H577 I beseech H3068 you, O LORD H430 God H8064 of heaven, H1419 the great H3372 and terrible H410 God, H8104 that keeps H1285 covenant H2617 and mercy H157 for them that love H8104 him and observe H4687 his commandments:

6 H241 Let your ear H4994 now H7183 be attentive, H5869 and your eyes H6605 open, H8085 that you may hear H8605 the prayer H5650 of your servant, H834 which H6419 I pray H6440 before H3117 you now, H3119 day H3915 and night, H1121 for the children H3478 of Israel H5650 your servants, H3034 and confess H2403 the sins H1121 of the children H3478 of Israel, H834 which H2398 we have sinned H1 against you: both I and my father’s H1004 house H2398 have sinned.

7 H2254 We have dealt very corruptly H8104 against you, and have not kept H4687 the commandments, H2706 nor the statutes, H4941 nor the judgments, H834 which H6680 you commanded H5650 your servant H4872 Moses.

8 H2142 Remember, H4994 I beseech H1697 you, the word H6680 that you commanded H5650 your servant H4872 Moses, H559 saying, H4603 If you transgress, H6327 I will scatter H6327 you abroad H5971 among the nations:

9 H7725 But if you turn H8104 to me, and keep H4687 my commandments, H6213 and do H518 them; though H5080 there were of you cast H7097 out to the uttermost H8064 part of the heaven, H6908 yet will I gather H8033 them from there, H935 and will bring H4725 them to the place H970 that I have chosen H7931 to set H8034 my name H8033 there.

10 H1992 Now these H5650 are your servants H5971 and your people, H834 whom H6299 you have redeemed H1419 by your great H3581 power, H2389 and by your strong H3027 hand.

11 H136 O LORD, H577 I beseech H4994 you, let now H241 your ear H7183 be attentive H8605 to the prayer H5650 of your servant, H8605 and to the prayer H5650 of your servants, H2655 who desire H3372 to fear H8034 your name: H6743 and prosper, H4994 I pray H5650 you, your servant H3117 this day, H5414 and grant H7356 him mercy H6440 in the sight H2088 of this H376 man. H4428 For I was the king’s H4945 cupbearer.
