2 Samuel 11:1-27 And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem.

1 H1961 And it came H8141 to pass, after the year H8666 was expired, H6256 at the time H4428 when kings H3318 go H3318 forth H1732 to battle, that David H7971 sent H3097 Joab, H5650 and his servants H3605 with him, and all H3478 Israel; H7843 and they destroyed H1121 the children H5983 of Ammon, H6696 and besieged H7237 Rabbah. H1732 But David H3427 tarried H3389 still at Jerusalem.

2 H1961 And it came H6256 to pass in an evening, H6153 H1732 that David H6965 arose H5921 from off H4904 his bed, H1980 and walked H1406 on the roof H4428 of the king’s H1004 house: H1406 and from the roof H7200 he saw H802 a woman H7364 washing H802 herself; and the woman H3966 was very H2896 beautiful H4758 to look on.

3 H1732 And David H7971 sent H1875 and inquired H802 after the woman. H559 And one said, H2063 Is not this H1339 Bathsheba, H1323 the daughter H463 of Eliam, H802 the wife H223 of Uriah H2850 the Hittite?

4 H1732 And David H7971 sent H4397 messengers, H3947 and took H935 her; and she came H7901 in to him, and he lay H6942 with her; for she was purified H2932 from her uncleanness: H7725 and she returned H1004 to her house.

5 H802 And the woman H2029 conceived, H7971 and sent H5046 and told H1732 David, H559 and said, H2030 I am with child.

6 H1732 And David H7971 sent H3097 to Joab, H559 saying, H7971 Send H223 me Uriah H2850 the Hittite. H3097 And Joab H7971 sent H223 Uriah H1732 to David.

7 H223 And when Uriah H935 was come H1732 to him, David H7592 demanded H3097 of him how Joab H7965 did, H5971 and how the people H7965 did, H4421 and how the war H7965 prospered.

8 H1732 And David H559 said H223 to Uriah, H3381 Go H3381 down H1004 to your house, H7364 and wash H7272 your feet. H223 And Uriah H3318 departed H4428 out of the king’s H1004 house, H3318 and there followed H310 H4864 him a mess H4428 of meat from the king.

9 H223 But Uriah H7901 slept H6607 at the door H4428 of the king’s H1004 house H3605 with all H5650 the servants H113 of his lord, H3381 and went H3381 not down H1004 to his house.

10 H5046 And when they had told H1732 David, H559 saying, H223 Uriah H3381 went H3381 not down H1004 to his house, H1732 David H559 said H223 to Uriah, H935 Came H1870 you not from your journey? H4069 why H3381 then did you not go H3381 down H1004 to your house?

11 H223 And Uriah H559 said H1732 to David, H727 The ark, H3478 and Israel, H3063 and Judah, H3427 abide H5521 in tents; H113 and my lord H3097 Joab, H5650 and the servants H113 of my lord, H2583 are encamped H6440 in the open H7704 fields; H935 shall I then go H413 into H1004 my house, H398 to eat H8354 and to drink, H7901 and to lie H802 with my wife? H2416 as you live, H5315 and as your soul H2416 lives, H6213 I will not do H2088 this H1697 thing.

12 H1732 And David H559 said H223 to Uriah, H3427 Tarry H2088 here H3117 to day H1571 also, H4279 and to morrow H7971 I will let you depart. H223 So Uriah H3427 stayed H3389 in Jerusalem H3117 that day, H4283 and the morrow.

13 H1732 And when David H7121 had called H398 him, he did eat H8354 and drink H6440 before H7937 him; and he made him drunk: H6153 and at even H3318 he went H7901 out to lie H4904 on his bed H5650 with the servants H113 of his lord, H3381 but went H3381 not down H1004 to his house.

14 H1961 And it came H1242 to pass in the morning, H1732 that David H3789 wrote H5612 a letter H3097 to Joab, H7971 and sent H3027 it by the hand H223 of Uriah.

15 H3789 And he wrote H5612 in the letter, H559 saying, H3051 Set H223 you Uriah H4136 in the forefront H6440 H2389 of the hottest H4421 battle, H7725 and retire H5221 you from him, that he may be smitten, H4191 and die.

16 H1961 And it came H3097 to pass, when Joab H8104 observed H5892 the city, H5414 that he assigned H223 Uriah H4725 to a place H834 where H3045 he knew H2428 that valiant H582 men were.

17 H582 And the men H5892 of the city H3318 went H3898 out, and fought H3097 with Joab: H5307 and there fell H5971 some of the people H5650 of the servants H1732 of David; H223 and Uriah H2850 the Hittite H4191 died H1571 also.

18 H3097 Then Joab H7971 sent H5046 and told H1732 David H3605 all H1697 the things H4421 concerning the war;

19 H6680 And charged H4397 the messenger, H559 saying, H3615 When you have made an end H1696 of telling H1697 the matters H4421 of the war H4428 to the king,

20 H518 And if H4428 so be that the king’s H2534 wrath H5927 arise, H559 and he say H4069 to you, Why H5066 approached H5892 you so near to the city H3898 when you did fight? H3045 knew H3384 you not that they would shoot H2346 from the wall?

21 H4310 Who H5221 smote H40 Abimelech H1121 the son H3380 of Jerubbesheth? H802 did not a woman H7993 cast H6400 a piece H7393 of a millstone H2346 on him from the wall, H4191 that he died H8405 in Thebez? H4100 why H5066 went H5066 you near H2346 the wall? H559 then say H5650 you, Your servant H223 Uriah H2850 the Hittite H4191 is dead H1571 also.

22 H4397 So the messenger H3212 went, H935 and came H5046 and showed H1732 David H3605 all H3097 that Joab H7971 had sent him for.

23 H4397 And the messenger H559 said H1732 to David, H3588 Surely H582 the men H1396 prevailed H5921 against H3318 us, and came H7704 out to us into the field, H6607 and we were on them even to the entering H8179 of the gate.

24 H3384 And the shooters H3384 shot H5921 from off H2346 the wall H5650 on your servants; H4428 and some of the king’s H5650 servants H4191 be dead, H5650 and your servant H223 Uriah H2850 the Hittite H4191 is dead H1571 also.

25 H1732 Then David H559 said H4397 to the messenger, H3541 Thus H559 shall you say H3097 to Joab, H2088 Let not this H1697 thing H7489 displease H5869 H2719 you, for the sword H398 devours H2088 one H2090 as well H2090 as another: H4421 make your battle H2388 more strong H413 against H5892 the city, H2040 and overthrow H2388 it: and encourage you him.

26 H802 And when the wife H223 of Uriah H8085 heard H223 that Uriah H376 her husband H4191 was dead, H5594 she mourned H1167 for her husband.

27 H60 And when the mourning H5493 was past, H1732 David H7971 sent H622 and fetched H1004 her to his house, H1961 and she became H802 his wife, H3205 and bore H1121 him a son. H1697 But the thing H1732 that David H6213 had done H7489 displeased H5869 H3068 the LORD.
