²² Then Paul stood up in the midst of the Areopagus and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that you are indeed over-much religious: ²³ for as I was passing along, and looking at what ye worshipped, I found an altar on which there was inscribed, "To the unknown God." Whom therefore ye worship unknown, Him do I declare unto you. ²⁴ The God that made the world and all things therein, being lord of heaven and earth dwelleth not in temples made with hands: ²⁵ nor is He served by the hands of men, as needing any thing: for He giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; ²⁶ and hath made of one blood every nation of men to dwell upon all the face of the earth, having determined the seasons before-appointed them, and the bounds of their habitation; ²⁷ that they might seek the Lord, if possibly they might trace Him, and find Him: though indeed He is not far from every one of us.

³ For the time past of our life is sufficient for us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, walking in lasciviousness, inordinate desires, excess of wine, revellings, drunkenness, and abominable idolatries:

²² And what if God, though resolved to shew his displeasure at last, and to make known his power, yet bore with much long-suffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction? ²³ and that He might make known the riches of his glory in the vessels of mercy, which He hath prepared for glory? ²⁴ whom He hath also called, even us, not only of the Jews, but also of the Gentiles. ²⁵ As He saith also in Hosea, I will call them my people, who were not my people, and her beloved, who was not beloved. ²⁶ And in the place where it was said to them, Ye are not my people, there shall they be called the children of the living God. ²⁷ And Esaias crieth out concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, only a remnant shall be saved. ²⁸ For in finishing the account and cutting it short in righteousness, the Lord will make a short work upon the earth. ²⁹ And as Esaias said before, "Except the Lord of hosts had left us a seed, we had been as Sodom, and we had been made like unto Gomorrah." ³⁰ What shall we say then? that the Gentiles, who sought not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is by faith;

¹⁷ This I say therefore, and charge you in the name of the Lord, that ye no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, ¹⁸ in the vanity of their mind, darkened in their understanding, and alienated from the life of God, through the ignorance that is in them, by reason of the hardness of their heart: ¹⁹ who, being past feeling, have given themselves up to lasciviousness, to commit all uncleanness with greediness.

¹⁴ that the blessing of Abraham might come on the gentiles by Christ Jesus; that we through faith might receive the promise of the Spirit.

¹⁶ And I have other sheep, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they will hear my voice; so there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.

²⁸ Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent to the Gentiles, and they will hear it.

¹¹ Wherein there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, slave, or free: but Christ is all and in all.

⁷ And after much debate, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Brethren, ye know that a good while ago, God, who was among us, chose that the Gentiles should hear by my mouth the word of the gospel, and believe. ⁸ And God who knoweth the heart, bare witness to them, giving them the holy Spirit, as He had done also to us: ⁹ and made no difference between us and them, having purified their hearts by faith.
