⁹ But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should declare the glories of Him, who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

⁷ with good-will, as serving the Lord rather than men: ⁸ knowing that whatever good any one doth, he shall receive the reward of it from the Lord, whether He be a slave or free.

⁹ And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all discernment; ¹⁰ that ye may try things that differ, that ye may be sincere and without offence until the day of Christ;

³ as his divine power hath given us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who hath called us by that glory and virtue, ⁴ by which are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises; that by these ye may become partakers of a divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

⁷ in all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works, with uncorruptness in teaching, gravity, sound doctrine that cannot be condemned;

⁷ And as ye abound in every other grace, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, that ye may abound in this grace also.

²³ do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not to men;

⁸ Finally my brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are venerable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are friendly, whatever things are reputable, if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think of these things:
