⁴ For whatsoever things were written in former times were written for our instruction, that we through patience and through consolation of the Scriptures may have hope.

²⁸ And we know that all things are working together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose;

³ Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

¹² Yea, and all who wish to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.

¹⁰ But you did closely follow my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, ¹¹ persecutions, sufferings; what manner of things happened to me in Antioch, in Iconium, in Lystra; what persecutions I endured, and out of them all the Lord delivered me. ¹² Yea, and all who wish to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.

⁸ But, if any one provides not for his own, and especially for his own household, he has denied the faith, and is worse than an unbeliever.

¹³ but, in so far as ye share in Christ's sufferings, rejoice; that at the revelation of His glory also ye may rejoice with exceeding joy.

³⁵ Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or perils or sword? ³⁶ As it has been written, "For Thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter." ³⁷ Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him Who loved us. ³⁸ For I am persuaded that, neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, ³⁹ nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

¹⁸ If the world hates you, ye know that it has hated Me before it hated you. ¹⁹ If ye were of the world, the world would love its own; but because ye are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, on this account the world hates you. ²⁰ Remember the word which I spake to you, 'A servant is not greater than his lord.' If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they kept My word, they will keep yours also.

² Consider it all joy, my brethren, when ye fall in with manifold temptations; ³ knowing that the proving of your faith establishes patience. ⁴ And let patience have a perfect work; that ye may be perfect and entire, lacking in nothing.
