¹⁹ Or, are you not conscious that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit that is in you, whom you have as a gift from God? Furthermore, you are not your own, ²⁰ for you have been bought and actually paid for. So you must honor God with your bodies.

¹ So then there is no condemnation at all for those who are in union with Christ Jesus.

¹ About spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be without information. ² You know that when you were heathen you were in the habit of going off, wherever you might be led, after idols that could not speak. ³ So I want to inform you that no one speaking under the power of the Spirit of God can say, "Jesus is accursed!" and no one except one under the power of the Holy Spirit can really say, "Jesus is Lord!" ⁴ There are varieties of gifts, but the Spirit is the same in all; ⁵ there are varieties of service, but the Lord to be served is the same; ⁶ there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who does all things by putting energy in us all. ⁷ To each of us is given a special spiritual illumination for the common good. ⁸ To one, wise speech is given by the Spirit; to another, by the same Spirit, intelligent speech is given; ⁹ to another, through union with the same Spirit, faith; to another, by one and the same Spirit, power to cure the sick; ¹⁰ to another, power for working wonders; to another, prophetic insight; to another, the power to discriminate between the true Spirit and false spirits; to another, various ecstatic utterances; and to another, the power to explain them. ¹¹ But the one and same Spirit accomplishes all these achievements, and apportions power to each of us as He chooses.

If all the body were an ear, how could we smell? ¹⁸ But as it now is, God has placed the parts, every one of them, in the body just as He wanted them to be. ¹⁹ If they were all one part, how could it be a body? ²⁰ But as it now is, there are many parts, but one body. ²¹ The eye cannot say to the hand, "I do not need you," or the hand to the feet, "I do not need you." ²² No, on the contrary, even those parts of the body that seem to be most delicate are indispensable, ²³ and the parts of it we deem devoid of honor we dress with special honor, and our ill-shaped parts receive more careful attention, ²⁴ while our well-shaped parts do not want for anything. Yes, God has perfectly adjusted the body, giving great honor to its apparently inferior parts, ²⁵ so that there is no disharmony in the body, but all the parts have a common care for one another. ²⁶ If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it. If one part receives an honor, all the parts can share its joy. ²⁷ So you are Christ's body, and individually parts of it. ²⁸ And God has placed people in the church, first as apostles, second as prophets, third as teachers, then wonder-workers; then people with power to cure the sick, helpers, managers, ecstatic speakers. ²⁹ Not all are apostles, are they? Not all are prophets, are they? Not all are teachers, are they? Not all are wonder-workers, are they? ³⁰ Not all are people with power to cure the sick, are they? Not all are ecstatic speakers, are they? Not all can explain ecstatic speaking, can they? ³¹ But you must earnestly continue to cultivate your higher spiritual gifts. And yet I will show you a way that is better by far:

⁸ For it is by His unmerited favor through faith that you have been saved; it is not by anything that you have done, it is the gift of God.

³⁸ Peter said to them, "You must repent -- and, as an expression of it, let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ -- that you may have your sins forgiven; and then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit,

³ Now through the unmerited favor God has shown me I would say to every one of you not to estimate himself above his real value, but to make a sober rating of himself, in accordance with the degree of faith which God has apportioned to him. ⁴ For just as we have many parts united in our physical bodies, and the parts do not all have the same function, ⁵ so we, though many, are united in one body through union with Christ, and we are individually parts of one another. ⁶ As we have gifts that differ in accordance with the favor God has shown us, if it is that of preaching, let it be done in proportion to our faith; ⁷ or of practical service, in the field of service; or of a teacher, in the field of teaching; ⁸ or of one who encourages others, in the field of encouragement; or one who gives his money, with liberality; or one who leads others, with earnestness; or one who does deeds of charity, with cheerfulness.

¹⁷ And whatever you say or do, let it all be done with reference to the Lord Jesus, and through Him continue to give thanks to God the Father.

¹⁵ Thank God for His unspeakable gift!

²⁹ for the gracious gifts and call of God are never taken back.

⁸ For it is by His unmerited favor through faith that you have been saved; it is not by anything that you have done, it is the gift of God. ⁹ It is not the result of what anyone can do, so that no one can boast of it.

¹⁷ Every good gift and every perfect boon is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, in whom there is no variation or changing shadow.

¹⁰ As all of you have received your spiritual talents, you must keep on using them in serving one another, as good trustees of God's many-sided favor.
