²⁴ If a kingdom is disunited, that kingdom cannot last. ²⁵ And if a household is disunited, that household cannot last. ²⁶ And if Satan has made an insurrection against himself and become disunited, he cannot last but is surely coming to an end.

¹⁵ "Again, if your brother wrongs you, go and while alone with him show him the wrong. If he listens to you, you have won back your brother. ¹⁶ But if he does not listen to you, take along with you one or two others, so as to have every word confirmed by the testimony of two or three witnesses. If he refuses to listen to them, report it to the church. ¹⁷ And if he refuses to listen to the church, treat him as a heathen and as a tax-collector. ¹⁸ I solemnly say to you, whatever you forbid on earth must be already forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth must be already permitted in heaven.

²² Since you have purified your souls by obeying the truth, in sincere love for the brotherhood you must love one another heartily and fervently, ²³ because you have been born anew, not from a germ that perishes but from one that does not perish, by the word of the living and everlasting God. ²⁴ For "All human life is just like grass, and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass dries up; the flowers drop off. ²⁵ But the word of the Lord lives on forever"; that is, the message of the good news which has been brought to you.

¹² So as God's own chosen people, consecrated and dearly loved, you must once for all clothe yourselves with tenderheartedness, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience; you must keep on ¹³ forbearing one another and freely forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; just as the Lord has freely forgiven you, so must you also do. ¹⁴ And over all these qualities put on love, which is the tie of perfection that binds us together. ¹⁵ Let the peace that Christ can give keep on acting as umpire in your hearts, for you were called to this state as members of one body. And practice being thankful.

⁹ No one has God, who goes too far and fails to stay by the teaching of Christ. Whoever stays by this teaching has the Father and the Son. ¹⁰ If anyone continuously comes to see you without bringing this teaching, you must stop welcoming him to your house and stop bidding him good morning, ¹¹ For whoever keeps on bidding him good morning is sharing in his wicked works.

³ continuing with eager earnestness to maintain the unity of the Spirit through the tie of peace. ⁴ There is but one body and one Spirit, just as there is but one hope resulting from the call you have received; ⁵ there is but one Lord, one faith, one baptism, ⁶ one God and Father of all, who is over us all, who pervades us all, and who is within us all.

¹⁶ These persons are grumblers, ever complaining about their lot. They live to satisfy their evil passions, their lips boast arrogant things, and they flatter others for personal gain. ¹⁷ But you, dearly beloved, must remember the words that have already been spoken by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ, ¹⁸ because they said to you, "In the last times there will be mockers who will live to satisfy their own godless passions." ¹⁹ These are men who cause divisions; mere animals, destitute of any spiritual nature,

¹⁷ But He knew what they were thinking, and so said to them, "Any kingdom that is not united is in the process of destruction, and one house falls after another.

⁹ But hold yourself aloof from foolish controversies, pedigrees, strife, and wrangles about the law, for these are fruitless and futile. ¹⁰ After one or two warnings to a man who is factious, stop having anything to do with him, ¹¹ for you may be sure that such a man is crooked and sinful, even self-condemned.

¹⁷ But I beg you, brothers, to keep on the lookout for those who stir up divisions and put hindrances in your way, in opposition to the instruction that you had, and always avoid them. ¹⁸ For such men are really not serving our Lord Christ but their own base appetites, and by their fair and flattering talk they are deceiving the hearts of unsuspecting people.

¹⁰ Now I beg you all, brothers, for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ, to be harmonious in what you say and not to have factions among you, but to be perfectly harmonious in your minds and judgments. ¹¹ For I have been informed about you, my brothers, by Chloe's people, that there are wranglings among you. ¹² I mean this, that one of you says, "I belong to Paul's party," another, "And I belong to Apollos' party," another, "And I belong to Cephas' party," another, "And I belong to Christ's party." ¹³ Christ has been parceled out by you! It was not Paul who was crucified for you, was it? You were not baptized in Paul's name, were you?
