Bible verses about "popularity" | Whiston

1 Peter 5:8

8 Be sober, be vigilant; Your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about seeking whom he may devour.

James 4:4

4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world, is the enemy of God.

James 2:1-13

1 My brethren, have not the faith of Jesus Christ our Lord of glory, with respect of persons. 2 For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment; 3 And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under the footstool of my feet[.] 4 Are ye not then partial in your selves, and are become judges of evil thoughts? 5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, hath not God chosen the poor of the world, rich in faith, and heirs of the promise, which he hath promised to them that love him? 6 But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment-seats? 7 They also blaspheme that worthy name, by the which ye are called. 8 If ye fulfil the royal law, according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thy self, ye do well. 9 But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors. 10 For whosoever shall fulfil the whole law, and yet offend in one [law,] he is guilty of all. 11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law. 12 Sospeak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty. 13 For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; [and] let mercy rejoice against judgment.

Luke 6:26

26 Wo unto you when all men shall speak well to you: In like manner did their fathers to the false prophets.

Romans 12:2

2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of the mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.

Luke 14:7-14

7 But he spake also a parable to those who were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief seats, saying unto them, 8 When thou shall be invited to a wedding, sit not down in the highest seat, lest one more honourable than thou come; 9 And he that invited thee and him, come and [say] to thee, Give this man place; and thou with shame take the lowest place. 10 But when thou shall be invited sit down in the lowest place; that when he that inviteth thee shall come, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: And then shalt thou have respect in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee. 11 For whosoever exalteth himself, shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself, shall be exalted. 12 Then said he also to him that invited him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not [thy] friends, nor thy brethren, nor neighbours, nor the rich, lest they also invite thee again, and a recompence be made thee. 13 But when thou makest a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind; 14 And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompence thee: for thou shalt be recompenced at the resurrection of the just.

Luke 9:25

25 For what will it advantage a man to gain the whole world, and lose himself.
